My goodness, these "scholars" not only don't seem to know about Islam, but they don't know basic geography either.
How can one trust in their knowledge about Islamic jurisprudence and Islamic history when they claim seasons vary according to Western and Eastern hemispheres (10:30), while even elementary school kids know seasons vary according to Northern and Southern hemispheres?
That is the ignorance produced by political agendas rather than concern about Islam and knowledge.
@trueauraful Ah but it is fair to blatantly omit the massacre of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad? Don't you realize this is why the same Grand Mufti of Syria speaks enraged at these false "scholars" who try to hide the truth?
Besides, "the West" even in that sense is not confined to North America and Europe, but there is also Australia where Ashoura is on Summer. You are defending what has no defense.
@germanicus24 they didn't omit anything, this is just telling us why muslims fast the day of ashoura; it would definitely be a good idea to mention the death of al-hussain (upon whom be peace) but that's a topic on its own.
@trueauraful No, this is a carefully crafted omission, if you go to these sheikhs website, Islam21C, you will see this is a transcript from their article called "Ashoura and False Religions."
They claim this is a tradition followed out of honor for Prophet Mohammad, yet Prophet Mohammad said "I am from Hussein and Hussein is from me," yet not one mention of his slaughtering in 15 minutes of talking about Ashoura? What kind of honoring for Prophet Mohammad is this?
@germanicus24,Asalamwailakum bro, yes I guess you could say they could've mentioned Hussain (RA) but NO it is not a carefully crafted omission as the Sahih hadiths that discuss Ashoora only discuss it from the point of the Jews, not from the point of Hussein (RA), so there is no need to really mention this as the Prophet PBUH did not fast for this reason. The slaughtering of Hussain (RA) is a loss but it is not significant as the Prophet PBUH has not mentioned it and has not fasted for this.
So when Prophet Mohammad said to Hussein "I am at war with those who fight you and in peace with those who please you" and "Hussein is from me and I am from Hussein" we are supposed to think that the slaughtering of that same Hussein has no importance?
Why would have Prophet Mohammad established a tradition simply because Jews were doing it? He would establish a tradition commanded by God, not by Jewish traditions whose Passover doesn't even match with Ashoura.
@wajahatkhan So the death of Hussain (RA) is not important, but the tradition of the Yahood is important? Since when does the prophet follow the tradition of the Jews? When we study hadith we have to look at the narrators of these hadith, 3 out of the four narrators on this occasion were not even there. The fourth narrator Ibn Abbas was four years old at the time, these traditions are not strong at all brother.
@Tmacbryant We're not following the "traditions" of the Jews but fasting on the day when the Prophet Moses A.S fasted which has nothing to do with how we think about the Jews. It's a day where we remember the miracle Allah who has bestowed upon them by opening the river. Come on people stop inventing stuff and go back to the real resources. The first ten days of Ashoora has nothing to do with slapping our bodies and shedding blood. It's one of the blessed months. Be logical.
@abnamaaraz If you look at the hadith that the fasting is based on you are indeed copying the sunnah of the yahood. It does not say that Prophet Musa fasted on this day, it says that the Jews fast on this day to commemorate the day bani Israel was free from Pharon. The prophet said that he has more of a right over Musa then they do, so he told all Muslims to fast. Do you blindly follow every hadith that you read? Do you not look at the narrators of this hadith? Logic has everything to do with it
@Tmacbryant Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to Madeenah and saw the Jews fasting on the day of ‘Aashooraa’. He said, ‘What is this?’ They said, ‘This is a righteous day, it is the day when Allaah saved the Children of Israel from their enemies, so Moosa fasted on this day.’ He said, ‘We have more right to Moosa than you,’ so he fasted on that day and commanded [the Muslims] to fast on that day.” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, 1865
@abnamaaraz Brother, do you even know how old Ibn 'Abbaas was at the time? look it up on wikipedia ... "Ibn Abbas was born in 3 BH", That means he was only 4 years old when he narrated this story. Anyone who studies hadith can tell you that a four year old is not reliable at all for narrating a hadith.
@Tmacbryant my brother how can you read from wikipedia, that site is all corrupted and they putting things against islam such as pictures of the prophet muhammad peace be upon him, be careful !!! salamou alaykom
@wldtrbls I only used it as an example to show that even in this case wikepedia is right. Dont worry bro, I don't use it as a primary source, maybe as a reference only every once in a while
There are some lies circulating amongst the ignorant that the hadith regarding the Jews was in the 1st year of hijrah, even though the ahadith clearly mention the prophet sws passed away the following year - do the maths, the great scholar of ahlul-bayt ibn Abbas rA was a decade older than those who lie, claim.
It would be helpful if people who comment actually watched the video - where it is explained
If one has to lie for their faith then there must be something wrong with it...
@trueauraful it wouldn't be a good idea to mention the death of hussein since it has nothing to do with ashoora. If we begin tolerating new opinions and ideas into Islam, we would be against the command of Allah. I don't understand why people are so hungry for innovations which has nothing to do with the real Islam. Yet don't even bother seeking the truth. No wonder why we are currently the losers and the weakest in this world today thanks to our ignorance
@abnamaaraz From what I understand, the death of al-hussain (RA) is correlated with ashoora (i.e. the 10th of muharram) but obviously not the fast. Ali (RA) was more noble than his son, yet we don't mourn his death. Mentioning al-hussain's death (RA), and perhaps even making dua for him and the ummah for that matter is far from innovation, provided we abide by the limits set for us in the sunnah; it's a matter of tolerance, not necessarily acceptance.
Why do these sheikhs omit that the grandson of Prophet Mohammad, Hussein, was slaughtered in the day of Ashoura? And if they know, why do they blatantly omit it?
They claim to be following a practice on behalf of Prophet Mohammad, yet they don't care about the assassination of Hussein, when Prophet Mohammad said: "HUSSEIN IS FROM ME AND I AM FROM HUSSEIN"?
Why would the Prophet of Islam establish a practice due to the Jews? The Prophets of Islam were commanded by God, not by the Jews.
I clicked on this for the laughs however was a bad experience hearing a arab with a beard talking out of his ass
