It appears that one of the photos was doctored. There is too great a difference between them. It would be safe to assume that there would be zero purpose in "applying" an image to an otherwise normal picture, so I am left with the impression the one image has been tampered with to "reduce" or completely remove the object from view. I assume you are referring to the overexposed A17 images which appear to be better than the A15 images. Several people have mentioned the poor image quality. I searched for higher-quality images but have had no success actually finding them. Maybe ordering NASA prints would be better or maybe the best images are locked away somewhere ... that'd be my guess.
