I have been doing 5-10 sets of 20 pushups a day and my wife challenged me to do the same with situps. Im just starting getting back in shape. I did about 70 and 3 days later im starting to recover... but will try again a little slower tomorrow.. maybe 10 sets of 10 vs. 5 sets of 20. good stuff!
this got my daughter involved more than eye&ear. extras even when in chair got her attention unlike daddy's situp straight but torso she'd be connected to & thus. i've done self swivel but still in some pours of dances but appreciate more than feel but instructive articulation of joints. redundant's my ideas on ok trampoline if tapping low last half hour & worm might work on chained set devinyled to move hi/low across ~right blood pressure. so concentration isn't to be trimmed to just acceptance
ast time i did an ab workout is.. umm watching this episode! hehe. and the time before that was the last time you put out an exercise that happened to also work out the abs o_o
I do a range of body-weight exercises & stretches almost every day, including exercises similar to those you showed that work my ab muscles. I usually do a larger workout soon after I wake up (and sometimes in the evenings) & then every now and again throughout the day. I'm lucky enough to have a yoga mat in my office which helps :)
The last time I did ab exercises? A few minutes ago! :) The last time I've used a yoga swing? I haven't had a chance to try one yet....
Really good exercises, thanks. I'm a bit confused about the breathing though. You say bring the belly toward the spine. I always thought proper breathing meant pushing the stomach outward as you draw air in (as opposed to breathing into the chest). Can you be more specific about how you breath when you perform these exercises? Thanks, again.

The drawing in maneuver to activate the TVA is in fact the incorrect way to stabilize the spine. This is older research that has since been disproven. I would agree with initially having an individual work on the TVA but then work towards bracing.
The function of the core is to prevent movement not create movement. You need to think of the concept of superstiffness.
Situps, crunches and loaded flexion create stress on the spine in excess of it's load capacity (refer to references above). The lumber spine only has 13 degrees of rotation - beyond that will cause damage to the lumbar spine.
Rather, think of anti-extension, anti-flexion, anti-rotation - this is how the (abdominal) core functions therefor the way it should be trained.
The last time I did an abs workout was the summer of 2006. Yeah, it's been a while. I'm lucky to have a high metabolism for my weight, but my muscles have been ignored for a while.
I couldn't remember when I last hung upside down, so I just sat on the couch in reverse, with my head where my feet go:-) Closest to upside down as I can get!
Question: I often read that plank exercises or "Captain's Chair" exercises are the most effective, yet I find crunches, etc much more difficult and feel soreness the next day. What's your opinion?

Can't remember the last time I did either of those. That's a good video, ab exercises are so boring, I like learning different exercises. =)

This is awesome! I'm always looking for things to challenge myself and something that looks fun:o)
I've really slacked lately on my workouts. It's been a month since I've worked on my abs. Getting back into this week though!
