  • Well, I'm loathe to disagree w the actual writer of this song-the English are always so dry~But if it hadn't been about 'Norma Jean' (which was a stroke of genius to say instead of 'Goodbye Marilyn')well it just wouldn't have had the same deep poignancy & resonance, especially w the American audience. That whole period is still an open wound on the American psyche Marilyn's own mysterious death...JFK. MLK & RFK's assassination. Marilyn's death broke the dike on a whole cascade of tragedies.

  • It's too bad they destroyed this song by changing it to Goodbye England's Rose. I can't listen to that version.

  • Hi Mark,

This is interesting. I hope you enjoy it. Take care, James

  • When I talk about Elton to the non-believers, I always say it's not just Elton, but it's also Bernie's wonderful writing, and the band: Davey, Nigel and Dee and Ray. The five greatest musicians ever. As well as Paul Buckmaster and James Newton-Howard, and Caleb Quaye. And yes Gus and Chris,That make Elton's albums the full bodied sound and so enjoyable to hear a hundred times for 30 something years.

  • Its Montgomery "Clift" - not Cliff.

  • I love this dvd and now that im a good Nirvana fan this is a perfect song for kurt i smell a tribute!

  • how did you get this footage?

  • It's from the Bryan Forbes documentary "Elton John and Bernie Taupin say Goodbye to Norma Jean and Other Things" on the BBC. A few months later, ABC played it with a few minutes added back in. You'd think this would be commercially available by now, but no.

  • Isn't this from the "Goodbye yellow brick road" making of DVD? they must have used the same footage for both or something....

  • That thing is FANTASTIC!!! Well worth the price.
