Thank you I have looked all over, bought books and nothing explains this style of roof better than your video. I'm not afraid of tackling my 12x16 shed now.
The information that I understood was helpful but cameraman was horrible. Also the guy needs some type of microphone on his shirt collar or something, I could barely hear him.
lol the music makes it seem like I'm watching the home network or something. well explained though. we learned that hip roofs are much stronger than gable or gambrel roofs.
I was wondering how tall your shed was? Im guessing 12ft tall your explanation on how to do it was really good I was worried it was going to be hard seems to like it will be easy thanks for the help I was look at a shed that had total hight of 10' 8" how did they do that I you could help that would be great!!
I'm building a gambrel roof and love your explaination. I don't need to know the angles, but you said yours were 31, 22, and 15 degrees. I tried adding them up to 180, several ways, but didn't figure it out...obviously I'm not a math whiz. Keep up the good work. Will have to check out your other videos. Concise and to the point.
thanks for posting... I built a 8x10 shed with a gambrel roof, and I couldn't find dimensions on how to do the roof, so this video really helped me get it done...thanks a lot man...
bryan thanks for the great video. i am building a 12 x 10' shed and i want to build it like yours, would you be able to maybe email me some info? thanks for your help.
hey thanks a whole bunch man.. you actually went through all that a person needs to know about a basic layout. and threw in xtra tidbits that matter, such as permits etc... thanks man.... perfect job.. only prob is yer paper picture shots of yer compas layout sucks.. cant see.... but no complaints for my purpose.. i did a floor layout.. thanks thanks thanks
i like this guy because he want to help every one to help them self info is to share not to keep for one day what we have learn we will have to leave it behind
You do the arc to get the location for maximum space & snow load strength. You run the arcs to find the location where they intersect. The length is half the distance from wall top to wall top in the front. (usually the smaller of the two dimensions) in your case of a 10' X 12; is 5' arc length.
Brian, I am building a 10x12 with 8' walls, I want to build these trusses, would you recommend 2x4 or 2x6 for the lumber on the trusses? Thank you for the video, looks awesome!!
@ppeterson01 If you live where there's tornado's or heavy snow every five years or more use 2X6. If you live in Arizona, Nevada, or the southern part of the People's Republik of Kalifornia you can use 2X4 and be OK.
Real good instruction..where were you when i was a kid learning?..(or trying to)..all I heard was yelling and cusses..lol..every time i had to help the guy, my stomach ached the night before I had to go. Part time help for a family friend..good guy...poor teacher...I never tried to do it myself after..I save up and pay through the nose...no stress except on the pockebook...you make it look fun...almost anyway..thanks for the vid, but i still pass on do it yourself..my tummy hurts already.. :(
Thanks a ton for this video, you made it so simple, i didn't get it the first time, but then the second time i paid more attention to your diagram in the beginning and that made it click!
i wish you would have shown the extra skirt how to :) thanks love the video.
Great video. I spent awhile drawing plans, doing complex geometry to figure out the exact angles and lengths for my trusses, this method is much easier. I am building my 10x12 gambrel-roof shed this weekend, and this was helpful, which is a lot more than I can say about pretty much anything else I found online. Muchas Gracias, Brian.
@stevenching73 Es de nada mi amigo. Me encante con lo mismo. Es por que ye hecho el video para gente como nosotros. Gracias por mirar mi video. Cheers!~
Very nice and helpful video.I am currently building a 16'x20'..I must say the background is beautiful and I am jealous.. lol.. Just a couple of quick questions, as I may have missed it.
1. How tall are your sidewalls?
2. Where you connected to the top of the wall, I didn't see any brackets in video 2. Did you just toenail them into the top?
3.What plywood did you use for the roof, just 1/2" OSB or thicker?
1. I did 6' side walls ( you can litterally do any size you like.)
2. I toe nailed them. I'll put twist brackets in this summer likely. (had severe winds and heavy snows and ok)
3. For the roof I used the regular 7/16" ply. Due to the angle of the roof it sheds snow well. I had two feet of wet heavy snow on the roof this spring no problem.
Thanks for the video.. I was wondering if it is possible to build a cabin like yours with the dimensions 14' or 16' wide, and 32' long with 2 bedrooms in the loft? I need at least 6'6 clearance in the center of the upper rooms. I would prefer 8' walls downstairs. (If I have to lose the height of the ceiling joist in the lower rooms to gain in the upper rooms, that is fine.) Will 2*6's support the top? or larger boards needed? Thank u !
Awesome do it yourself video. I like your approach on teaching other people. This video was exactly what I've been looking for. I especially like your comment on living in a town where people arent dying some much LOL ( I am a paramedic). =) Now I just need to find a video on how to install gang nails with out the use of a press.
Very informative video! Thank you for taking the time to post this "HOW TO" video. I now understand how to do it myself and correctly, and I am definitely more at ease approaching my 12'x24' gambrel shed!
Thanks brian you can do it all

@Nathan72206 Your total height = your wall height + circle radius that you use to design your truss' with.
