He pawned all his stuff and got advances on his paycheck to pay for her abortion and to buy her a locket for her birthday...only to find her in the arms of they guy that F'ked her over from the get go gate. A lot of guys did not show it at the movies but...fellas was hurt when the movie ended. I think that everyone has loved someone more than they loved theirself and lost out.
I like the fact that they didn't go with the standard happy ending with this one--makes it so much more powerful. I mean after all these years, we all remember every detail of that end moment--pretty good for an 80's teen comedy.
It would've been fine if she didn't kiss him back after Gary told her he loved her. She should've just said 'look, I'm not interested, let's just stay friends'. By kissing him back and then going straight back to that dickhead, she did one of the bitchiest moves in cinema history. That slut got what she deserved looking at her now. Yikes. And yes I know she was playing a character :P

I bet many of you sometimes miss those powerful Raw emotions that you experienced. That was living! I know if I had the chance to go back and live it again even without being able to change anything,I would do it .

This film has the greatest soundtrack of all time! Every song in this movie is a masterpiece! I use to think Karen was the prettiest girl in the world, even though what she did at the end was terrible. My first lesson that girls just don't like guys who are too nice to them. Gary's failing was that he couldn't see that Karen simply wasn't interested in him in the romantic sense. On the flipside, Gary probably missed out on the better option in Rose, because he was too busy chasing after what wasn't meant to be and, quite frankly, what wasn't worth the pursuit in the long term. So, Rose/Gary isn't the main premise, but it's a reflection of it.

You have done an excellent job creating the true feel of this movie by summing it up in 5 minutes with the full impact of the love that he felt for her and the hurt he experienced when she returned to the guy who doesn’t love her. I had the biggest crush on Lawrence Monoson (Gary) when i was a teenager.. I felt so bad for him getting dumped in the movie like that it was not the fairytale ending i hoped for he looked so heart broken but my thoughts were that her (Karen's) ex' boyfriend was going to dump her again in the end after he used her again...
I loved that they used the song "Just Once" it was the perfect song for the moment..
The funny thing is that the fat kid David was considered real fat back in the 1980's but in 2010 he would be considered just average size. American teenagers have gotten so much fatter since they just sit on the internet and do nothing. In the 1980's kids were much more active.

Awesome editing work. I watched it back in 1983 for the first time and the ending hit me like a ton of bricks. It is SUCH a great movie! And still holds its own after all these years! (I own the DVD.) The music is great, the comedy is good, but the real point is the dramatic plot. The previous comments are very correct. This was such a great 80's teen movie--too bad it was so overshadowed by Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This also had one of the best soundtracks ever in a movie. Whenever I hear U2's I Will Follow, I always think of that scene where he's selling his stuff. 1982 ruled.

This movie was in 80's I feel sorry for that geek hehehe! He took care of her when her bf dumped her coz she was pregnant. Then after the geek took care of her and back to her feet, she went back to her BF. The geek was the Last American Virgin.

This film has the greatest soundtrack of all time! Every song in this movie is a masterpiece! I use to think Karen was the prettiest girl in the world, even though what she did at the end was terrible. My first lesson that girls just don't like guys who are too nice to them. Sure, there are rare exceptions, but it seems to be true for the most part.
You did an excellent job with this video. It really captures the heart of the film.

@uoyebutbackwords == The film's main theme is about how you can't simply win the heart of one whose heart isn't for you. Gary's failing was that he couldn't see that Karen simply wasn't interested in him in the romantic sense. On the flipside, Gary probably missed out on the better option in Rose, because he was too busy chasing after what wasn't meant to be and, quite frankly, what wasn't worth the pursuit in the long term. So, Rose/Gary isn't the main premise, but it's a reflection of it.

When this film came out, I was the same age as the actors so I can relate to the movie plot & feelings. You have done an excellent job creating the true feel of this movie by summing it up in 5 minutes with the full impact of the love that he felt for her and the hurt he experienced when she returned to the guy who doesn’t love her. It goes to show that the nice guy still loses as it happens in real life to this day. Great video & I will keep it bookmarked to watch again in the near future!

saw this film in the very early 80's, loved it, then forgot about it, and for bloody 20 years couldnt remember the name of the film or the quincy 'just once' track ! asked in every record store, describing the film , none knew it, even tried too sing the song in one shop lol, how crazy is that ? anyway the point is, loved the film and song, and it took me almost 20 years too find the bloody thing again ! I never tire of the song, and it is now my soul purpose in life to get the dvd lol

I had the biggest crush on Lawrence Monoson (Gary) when i was a teenager.. I felt so bad for him getting dumped in the movie like that it was not the fairytale ending i hoped for he looked so heart broken but my thoughts were that her (Karen's) ex' boyfriend was going to dump her again in the end after he used her again...
I loved that they used the song "Just Once" it was the perfect song for the moment..

The funny thing is that the fat kid David was considered real fat back in the 1980's but in 2010 he would be considered just average size. American teenagers have gotten so much fatter since they just sit on the internet and do nothing. In the 1980's kids were much more active.

Awesome editing work. I watched it back in 1983 for the first time and the ending hit me like a ton of bricks. It is SUCH a great movie! And still holds its own after all these years! (I own the DVD.) The music is great, the comedy is good, but the real point is the dramatic plot. The previous comments are very correct. You've taken 5 minutes to summarize the entire important essence of the film.
