TDI stands for turbo diesel injection not turbo direct injection because older model were called TD ( turbo diesel) so people when you write something make sure its right
i gotta ford diesel and now im looking for something like this.... Could someone please tell me are these good cars??? i know the mpg on them is fantastic but would this engine hold up very reliably??
@znofxz they are amazing cars and will last for ever! like 300,000 miles is possible with proper maintenance. i would suggest going to tdiclub.com and reading up.
Hello, I am an admirer of your exhaust nice compliments ... but what do the below?
tube downpipe free from the turbine? 200cell central exhaust catalyst free or direct? or only the terminal silence? I or the same as your pear and 2007 with diesel particulate filter can be done? but you ce lai The FAP or not? from me there and I want to eliminate with a beautiful and complete exhaust catalyst sports but I do not know if it brings problems ...
Except that it's Turbo Direct Injection. Thats what it means when referring to a Volkswagen anyways. Not Turbo Diesel Induction/intercooled/Injection. It's obviously a diesel, but it was used to differentiate between the old indirect-injected VW's and the newer DIRECT-injected turbodiesels. IDI=Indirect Injected diesel DI=Direct Injected diesel. VW just added a T...
Sweet sound. Is there a pipe kit available for the 2009 EOS 2.0T? Just go it, i love it, and want the whistle all the way out. Want to chip and tune to get upwards of 250 bhp.
first of all sorry about the user name..just using my littles sisters lol. but does teh 03 model have 02 sensors on the cat? if so how do you get around that without your engine light coming on?
yes u can put a dump valve on but u will end up loosing your boost pressure an thats not what u want lad. chip it up an put a straight through on it u can easy get 175bhp thats wot mine is at
For 175hp you need a lot more than straight pipe and a chip. With those 2 mods alone (on an ALH) you're only at about 120hp. You'd also need a bigger turbo and bigger injectors/nozzles to get close to 175hp.
Ah, however if you have significant enough boost pressures that when you stop introducing fuel that the deceleration of the pistons creates enough of a pressure wave to flow back to the turbo to cause surge, then a blow-off can indeed be beneficial. While I have not seen it on a TDI, our hopped up Powerstroke surges on shifts all the time.
TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection, Not Turbo Diesel..... it sounds good, your EGTs (thats Exhaust Gas Temperatures) will be lower without a muffler and this will allow your Garret Turbocharger to last longer.
Sounds just like mine...awesome man. I bet you like that blow off type sound the turbo makes when you let off the throttle right when it starts to boost hard also.
Actually its Turbo, Direct injected. Which yes, the cummins are.
It shouldnt be to loud, louder than stock of course. You would be able to hear the turbo better, this vid obviously shows that. It wont be as loud as a 4 banger straight piped, because 1) Diesel's in general are quiter (I have many hours behind levers of a Cat D2 with a straight piped N/A diesel) and 2) It has a turbo, which basically chops up the noise being made by the engine, and quiets it down some.
cant wait to buy a tdi golf. straight pipes and a chip are the first things going on. i usually like big diesel trucks like a nice 24v cummins, but i cant afford the high gas prices for 17mpg. id rather have 45mpg. nice car bud
hahaha why dont you just get an egt gauge so you can look at it and be able to tell if its too hot dumby! general rula of thumb for all who are wondering, your not suppose to shut down abouve 400*f. what he did in the video was no where near that hot.
your actually suppose to let it sit to cool the turbo down, so it doesnt cool too fast when your turn it off, so you wont fry the bearings or get gunked oil in the passage ways.
wierd how the turbo can be heard whistling, the higher pitched sounds much travel better.
Also never turn engine off after revving, otherwise the turbo will be spinning fast when the oil pressure stops with engine, the number 1 killer of turbos, allow to idle for about 30 seconds.
Thats the point! u rev it spins faster, u shut down engine, u have no oil pressure, so the if the turbo is spinning faster than idle speed the bearings run dry, thats why they sell simmer kits. This is the biggest killer of turbos, revving before turning engine off. honestly, ask any turbo specialist, its a well known fact.
And if you stressed the engine like driving hard or on full load let it cool on idle for minute or so then shut off the engine. Temp of exhaust gases on idle are much lower than on load so that cools it down. If you stop the engine as soon as you park, the heat builds up and, given time, kills turbine.
I have no idea, but I would guess they wouldnt shut it down with it glowing red hot. Also some turbo's are oil/water cooled, so that would probably help out a bit.
That sounds sweet! I have a question that I think you probably know the answer to. A VW salesman told me today that VW diesels had indirect injection until 2003... Would that make all 2002 and earlier diesels just TD and not TDI?
He would be a ignorant salesman. VW diesels have been using direct injection for a while. TDI's came around in the USA in 1997. The newer Pump-nozzle engines or PD's that used injectors with built in pumps started showing up in 2004 models.
People would rather type a 500 character argument on the internet instead of typing a 6 letter search query on the internet. Fail.

Aku51 3 years ago
What you read is correct. Exhausts on a TDI wont give HP like on a gas car. They will help the exhaust flow better which can lower exhaust temps.

Or if you turn it off with High EGT's, will cause the oil to cook in the turbo.
