  • People would rather type a 500 character argument on the internet instead of typing a 6 letter search query on the internet. Fail.

  • TDI= Turbo diesel injection....

  • Funny really how so many people are intent on being correct, TDI = Turbocharged Direct Injection, nuff said now STFU!

  • TDI stands for turbo diesel injection not turbo direct injection because older model were called TD ( turbo diesel) so people when you write something make sure its right

  • @Fuckalator actually TDI stands for Turbo-diesel Direct Injection

  • @Fuckalator Ur stupid

  • @jaydnls15 for sure your the stupid one, your an american...

  • @Fuckalator Haha. I mean canada is pretty awesome not gonna lie

  • Turbocharged Direct Injection

TDI ..... this is what it stands for ...

  • @muzzyonline haha the only one to get it right! well done! :D

  • i gotta ford diesel and now im looking for something like this.... Could someone please tell me are these good cars??? i know the mpg on them is fantastic but would this engine hold up very reliably??

  • @znofxz itll last longer than your powerstroke or idi thats for sure

  • @znofxz Ohh yes, they are great cars and very reliable. But they are German ;)

But seriously, I've driven mine for over 215k miles and it's still going!

  • @znofxz they are amazing cars and will last for ever! like 300,000 miles is possible with proper maintenance. i would suggest going to tdiclub.com and reading up.

  • i can hear the turbo whistle cool

  • Did u noticed any diference in power/torque? or fuel consumption?

  • Do you have the vnt 15 or the vnt 17 in this video ?

  • stupid americans.. TDI = Turbo Diesel Intercooler

  • @migselv16896 turbocharged direct injection actually :)

  • @19jacobob93 no its not... trust me

  • @migselv16896 erm yes it does. ask someone who knows what theyre talking about, or even ask wikipedia.

  • honestly at idle I don't like the sound but when you rev it up high like at 0:30 it sounds pretty sick!

  • TDI: WHO CARES.

Every comment on here is about what tdi stands for. I however want to comment on the car. It sounds sick man.

  • @chrismwicks Hey thanks. I need a new video up because ive since installed a custom turboback 2.5" exhaust. Full straight pipe of course :-)

  • is turbo direct injection

    d is also for clean

    disel

  • awesome :D

  • TDI=Turbocharged Direct Injection...this is the same for the whole Volkswagen group diesels incl.Audi, SEAT, Skoda etc.

  • Comment removed

  • tdi is actually turbi diesel injection

  • did you remove just your muffler or your muffler and your cat?

  • @arcticcatzrw Removed the muffler and the cat.

  • @fire32njetta is ur yoke a bora or a jetta

  • turbo direct injection

  • Correct! We have a winner! haha Owned...

  • i owned is what i am getting out of this statement. and that everybody else is just throw guesses like crazy

  • Except that it's Turbo Direct Injection. Thats what it means when referring to a Volkswagen anyways. Not Turbo Diesel Induction/intercooled/Injection. It's obviously a diesel, but it was used to differentiate between the old indirect-injected VW's and the newer DIRECT-injected turbodiesels. IDI=Indirect Injected diesel DI=Direct Injected diesel. VW just added a T...

  • yes, before common rail and all those things

  • No, it stands for Turbo Diesel (Direkt) Injektion

  • Umm, TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection.

  • cat or no cat?

  • Sweet sound. Is there a pipe kit available for the 2009 EOS 2.0T? Just go it, i love it, and want the whistle all the way out. Want to chip and tune to get upwards of 250 bhp.

  • can she pooooooooo

  • I think I got a bit of a stiffy listening to this... Sounds better than a honda anyday

  • TDI's with Straight though exhausts = lots of win! Mines being done Friday! Sounds good!

  • jealous

  • first of all sorry about the user name..just using my littles sisters lol. but does teh 03 model have 02 sensors on the cat? if so how do you get around that without your engine light coming on?

  • No the 03 does not have sensors so no light for me.

  • can you put a blow off valve on a tdi??

  • yes u can put a dump valve on but u will end up loosing your boost pressure an thats not what u want lad. chip it up an put a straight through on it u can easy get 175bhp thats wot mine is at

  • For 175hp you need a lot more than straight pipe and a chip. With those 2 mods alone (on an ALH) you're only at about 120hp. You'd also need a bigger turbo and bigger injectors/nozzles to get close to 175hp.

  • Yes but..

    1) you will look like a dick

    2) you will have just wasted your money

  • you could it'd be pointless. it's a diesel so blowoff valves obsolete to a wastegate cuz diesels don't use throttle plates

  • Ah, however if you have significant enough boost pressures that when you stop introducing fuel that the deceleration of the pistons creates enough of a pressure wave to flow back to the turbo to cause surge, then a blow-off can indeed be beneficial. While I have not seen it on a TDI, our hopped up Powerstroke surges on shifts all the time.

  • sounds like a bloody hoover

  • riveting stuff nice turbo whistel tho might get one for my gt tdi

  • TDI stands for Turbo Direct Injection, Not Turbo Diesel..... it sounds good, your EGTs (thats Exhaust Gas Temperatures) will be lower without a muffler and this will allow your Garret Turbocharger to last longer.

  • nice tractor

  • funky turbo

  • Sounds just like mine...awesome man. I bet you like that blow off type sound the turbo makes when you let off the throttle right when it starts to boost hard also.

  • tractor

  • can someone tell me what "straight pipes are"... is it when you take the muffler off (so the exhaust comes "straight out of the engine"?)

  • it's just what it sounds like a straight pipe replacing the muffler

    Less backpressure

  • ok thanx :)

  • If it's truely straight there is no cat or muffler. Just a "straight" pipe coming off the turbo all the way to the tail pipe.

  • sounds very different

  • Does this have an aftermarket intake on it?

  • mmmmnnn Pfeifenkopp!^^

  • is this someting u can do at home?

  • if you have some welding stuff maybe

  • sounds pretty slick man...

  • the stok sound sounds better

  • =0 sounds amazing with the turbo spoolin !!!

  • I read that on TDIs that piping, intake, and exhaust has not signigicant effect on horse power whats so ever. Is that true ? (source Freds TDI page)

  • What you read is correct. Exhausts on a TDI wont give HP like on a gas car. They will help the exhaust flow better which can lower exhaust temps.

  • also makes it sounds a heck better!

  • i dont mean to sound dumb or anything but whats TDI stand for ?

  • Cumminsguy, are you kidding? your tag is cummings guy. All cummins engine's are TDI. Turbo Diesel Injection.

How loud is it without the muffler? As loud as a normal 4 cylinder with no muffler?

  • Actually its Turbo, Direct injected. Which yes, the cummins are.

It shouldnt be to loud, louder than stock of course. You would be able to hear the turbo better, this vid obviously shows that. It wont be as loud as a 4 banger straight piped, because 1) Diesel's in general are quiter (I have many hours behind levers of a Cat D2 with a straight piped N/A diesel) and 2) It has a turbo, which basically chops up the noise being made by the engine, and quiets it down some.

  • sorry oscwede.....TDI does not stand for Turbo Diesel Injection it stands for Turbo Direct Injection.....

  • cant wait to buy a tdi golf. straight pipes and a chip are the first things going on. i usually like big diesel trucks like a nice 24v cummins, but i cant afford the high gas prices for 17mpg. id rather have 45mpg. nice car bud

  • Well i'm taking my car to the shop next week! I can't wait for my car to sound like this!

  • well i just got the mufflerectomy done and I can barely hear the turbo?!? unfortunately mine sounds nothing like yours =(

  • The cat will still kill a lot of the sound

  • Is that stock? I want my tdi to sound like this...

  • No you need to have a muffler shop remove the muffler and cat to be like that.

  • Yea sorry i meant stock other than the muffler and cat.... If I leave the cat on will I still be able to hear the turbo that loudly?

  • Removing the muffler will help a lot but you get the full effect with no cat.

  • the stock turbo on this car, the wheels are so small and light, they dont spin for long after shutdown... wheels are like the size of a quarter.

  • Great the sound of turbo!

    Thanks!

  • hey i have a bora tdi yours sound great you only have a straight pipe on it?

  • Yep straight pipe

  • One more reason for me to want to swap a TDI into an old VW Caddy. Love the sound! Hit up VWVortex if you haven't already.

  • Been a 'texer for 5 years

  • you guys need to relax and stop arguing or ill lock the comments

  • hahaha why dont you just get an egt gauge so you can look at it and be able to tell if its too hot dumby! general rula of thumb for all who are wondering, your not suppose to shut down abouve 400*f. what he did in the video was no where near that hot.

  • what the hell are you lot on about!!??

hes only parked up and bliping the throttle!

The only time you need to "run down" the turbo is if your turning it off straight after giving the car a serious thrashing.

on my petrol turbo cars you know when its "too hot" because if it was at night youd see the thing glowing red hot

  • Damn hearing the turbo whistle, that's awesome.

  • your actually suppose to let it sit to cool the turbo down, so it doesnt cool too fast when your turn it off, so you wont fry the bearings or get gunked oil in the passage ways.

  • Thats an angle I did not consider aswell,

in most car handbooks, it mentions shut down procedure, spin to fast when oil pressure stops and its doomed, were all doomed!

  • awesome! Is this a kit you bought or a custom fab job? how big is the pipe?

  • Local shop did it. I think its 2 inch. Right now all they did was remove the cat and muffler. Once i get a bigger turbo ill get a full 2.5" system.

  • "TDI(thats a turbo diesel for the un-educated"

No, actually TDI stands for Turbocharged Direct Injection.

  • Yes i know

  • I got it now I just misinterpreted the description...sorry :)

  • wierd how the turbo can be heard whistling, the higher pitched sounds much travel better.

Also never turn engine off after revving, otherwise the turbo will be spinning fast when the oil pressure stops with engine, the number 1 killer of turbos, allow to idle for about 30 seconds.

  • Doesnt matter how long you idle this. Turbo will always still be spinning when you shut it off.

  • Thats the point! u rev it spins faster, u shut down engine, u have no oil pressure, so the if the turbo is spinning faster than idle speed the bearings run dry, thats why they sell simmer kits. This is the biggest killer of turbos, revving before turning engine off. honestly, ask any turbo specialist, its a well known fact.

  • And if you stressed the engine like driving hard or on full load let it cool on idle for minute or so then shut off the engine. Temp of exhaust gases on idle are much lower than on load so that cools it down. If you stop the engine as soon as you park, the heat builds up and, given time, kills turbine.

    Cheers

  • Or if you turn it off with High EGT's, will cause the oil to cook in the turbo.

  • U know what, I never thought of that!

I am right about not turning off after revving aren't I.?

  • Yeah its not good for the turbo at all. Causes the bearings to fail pre-maturly.

  • Theres a vid on you tube with a turbo GLOWING RED on exhaust side!! How can any oil cope with that?!!

  • I have no idea, but I would guess they wouldnt shut it down with it glowing red hot. Also some turbo's are oil/water cooled, so that would probably help out a bit.

  • they did a good job man - Props. I'm lookin' at aftermarket exhausts now - but THAT is the sound I'm lookin' for

  • Make ur own, the turbo silences enough, maybe just a cherry bomb.

  • what brand is it? or did you fab it yourself? NIICE sound to it too!!

  • Local shop did it.

  • DAMN!! I love the sound of that turbo.

  • That sounds sweet! I have a question that I think you probably know the answer to. A VW salesman told me today that VW diesels had indirect injection until 2003... Would that make all 2002 and earlier diesels just TD and not TDI?

  • He would be a ignorant salesman. VW diesels have been using direct injection for a while. TDI's came around in the USA in 1997. The newer Pump-nozzle engines or PD's that used injectors with built in pumps started showing up in 2004 models.

  • Actually TDI stands for " Tiny Devils inside".

    santa told me!!

  • Is this street legal?

  • its "for off road use only"

  • its actually not as loud as you would think. Plus it sounds good unlike fart cans.

  • isnt it illegal to have no silencer (muffler) if not, i am sooo doing that on my c220 cdi!!!!

  • TDI most definatly does not stand for turbo diesel. TDI is turbo direct injection. mkI and mkII used disel and TD. they had manual injection pumps

  • yes i know that i was just saying its a turbo diesel car...i wasnt trying to define TDI

  • lol that whistling would make me crazy :-$

  • Dude it sounds like a dump truck. I love it. I mite get one next year because of the gas prices.

  • What modification makes the turbo to whistle like that? It's fakin awesome, gotta have that :)

  • having nothing in the way between the turbo and the end of the pipe

  • You mean no muffler and no cat? I didn't get it:/

  • nothing but pipe

  • Sounds excelent, i can hear the turbo and everything. You should post one with the engine view, running.

  • does this effect the car any?

    I don't know? I'm a TDi Tuner Diesel idiot

  • Yes it raises the boost and frees up the car to rev quicker

helps your acceleration and fuel economy quite a bit

  • great sounding little car. That turbo just screams!!!!

  • Thats sounds awesome!!! Did you remove the cat also?

  • the whistling VW...
