  • Came looking for Ry Cooder and found something awesome and different. The last 100 views are probably me.

Don't worry, @tei1990 will figure it out later. These things can take more than 21 years.

  • Now I remember why I spend my time trying to play guitar.

  • I am sorry,..you are right,..,..!! the back scene really looks like the square where he played in ancona...last summer....(and he wears also the same hat!)

  • It's so good it's ridiculous!

  • Beautiful!

  • this is video was shot in Ancona,Piazza del Papa,....where I live,..last summer...I was there,..

  • Sorry Valerio, this video was taken in Pavia back in 2005.

    By me.

  • @ValerioMansueti did the English ragtime go down well there?

  • @Rikk303 oh yes,..it was a beautiful summer night,..he played in a nice old square of my town...and he played real good,...for free....!

  • @ValerioMansueti Check out Adrian Legg on YouTube. Also real good and for free! I think you'll like him if you've not heard him before

  • @ValerioMansueti oh,..yeah,..I didn't know adrian legg,..thanks a lot....!!!!absolutely impossible guitar...!!

  • This man has been the consummate, most versatile, artist for 5 decades. I recall when he was with "Pentangle". John Fahey, John Renbourn, Davey Graham, Bert Jansch. No electric player comes close to them.

  • This is some kind of magic that i wish to be devoured by.

  • Excellent guitarplaying .....

    I love the Celtic Melodies...Beautiful:-)

  • Lovely the way he works "Abide With Me" into the intro. Saw him with Isaac Guillory several times. They did a superb version of "Buckets of Rain".

  • THOSE bONEHEADS TALKING OVER HIS pLAYING ARE IDIOTS

  • Beautiful. He`s really great !

  • You are making that guitar sing!!!

  • How can people talk over this performance!?

  • Because people are stupid and ignorant

and full of themselves ? LOL

Well, some of them at least :-)

  • Too many people don't understand the dofference bwetween background music and actually actively listening. Which is exactly what John Renbourn's music deserves.

  • I think I am entitled to agree with you on that one

    ;-)

They are so used everything being about "me-me-me" that the whole concept of sitting down and shutting up to experience a fantastic player or singer 100 % foucused is completely alien to them.

I blame it it on their parents and bad manners ;-)

The worst thingis that they often behave the same way in the traffic ;-(

  • "I am inclined to ..", I meant ;-) Doh !

  • What we really need is a plain clothes music police with tasers in the audience ;o)

That should stop that type of annoying behaviour pretty quickly LOL

  • AWESOME!!!!

  • many thanks for posting this. one of the 5 or 6 greatest living fingerpickers!

  • renborn you are born to play...the guitar

  • renbourn si ama da sempre e non si discute

  • loved Ry's for years,but now??

  • One of the masters.

  • Join the new Fingerstyle Guitar Club of Brooklyn: brooklynfingerstyle dot com

  • A great performance from a great guitarist. His collaborations with Stefan Grossman were excellent but "Bert and John" is my all time fabourite album.

  • This is great. I am a really big fan of Renbourn, so thanks for putting this out.

  • Great! Haven't seen Renbourn in years. My friend looked for "Faro Annie" for 3 years before finding it and opened his own out of print record store in the process. Thank you, this is truly wonderful!!

  • Well, of course you don't - that would require taste, a good ear and brains ;-)

Did anyone force you or tie you down ?

  • "it is boring"

Maybe he should wear Spandex and turn the amp up to 11.

  • Perhaps a little cerebral for you?

  • Well, my friends ElvenDane and Safuna surely didn't like your comment. I have a deep respect for any kind of music taste, even far away from mine. Nevertheless.. why put a comment? Just watch it and leave after a while. Simply you can't understand this music.

  • I just couldn't resist that one - slapping my fingers

    here *LOL*

  • @VanDeFields its not that he doesn't understand, its that he doesn't have the perspective that appreciates it, which is fine. You cant just listen to this and like it, it is an acquired taste. I pride myself in enjoying it more than mainstream :D.

  • @VanDeFields That kid was born in 1990, what can you expect? He probably listens to Justin Bieber and Kate Perry.

  • @tei1990 Each to their own But truly not liking this is plain stupid - listen to it - it is amazing playing and pretty good singing too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great video. Incrdible guitar playing.

  • Sheer bliss

  • Pure touch! This man is the master jedi of fingerstyle, yoda himself, wisdom and grace ... Look and listen, his fingers don't even touch the guitar. Sublim cover of a Joseph Spence's song, if i dont mistaken. Thanks for posting it

  • You're absolutely right! I had the same sensation of John's barely touching the fretboard, yet playing wonderfully that "standard" of his live repertoire.

The song is actually one of Spence's classics basically intended to be a spiritual, with strong blues and calypso influences. While playing it, Spence made so many variations to melody that his wife Louise used to complain about its excessive complexity.

John's version is capturing very well the spirit of the song.

    Cheers

    Van

  • You need to hear Ralph McTell's great tribute to Spence called "Hands of Joseph" - in concerts he usually ends it by going into an amazing version of "Great Dreams of Heaven" / "There Will be a Happy Meeting" - with humming and (semi)growling a la Spence even ;-)
