I am sorry,..you are right,..,..!! the back scene really looks like the square where he played in ancona...last summer....(and he wears also the same hat!)
This man has been the consummate, most versatile, artist for 5 decades. I recall when he was with "Pentangle". John Fahey, John Renbourn, Davey Graham, Bert Jansch. No electric player comes close to them.
Too many people don't understand the dofference bwetween background music and actually actively listening. Which is exactly what John Renbourn's music deserves.
I think I am entitled to agree with you on that one
;-)
They are so used everything being about "me-me-me" that the whole concept of sitting down and shutting up to experience a fantastic player or singer 100 % foucused is completely alien to them.
I blame it it on their parents and bad manners ;-)
The worst thingis that they often behave the same way in the traffic ;-(
A great performance from a great guitarist. His collaborations with Stefan Grossman were excellent but "Bert and John" is my all time fabourite album.
Great! Haven't seen Renbourn in years. My friend looked for "Faro Annie" for 3 years before finding it and opened his own out of print record store in the process. Thank you, this is truly wonderful!!
Well, my friends ElvenDane and Safuna surely didn't like your comment. I have a deep respect for any kind of music taste, even far away from mine. Nevertheless.. why put a comment? Just watch it and leave after a while. Simply you can't understand this music.
@VanDeFields its not that he doesn't understand, its that he doesn't have the perspective that appreciates it, which is fine. You cant just listen to this and like it, it is an acquired taste. I pride myself in enjoying it more than mainstream :D.
@tei1990 Each to their own But truly not liking this is plain stupid - listen to it - it is amazing playing and pretty good singing too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pure touch! This man is the master jedi of fingerstyle, yoda himself, wisdom and grace ... Look and listen, his fingers don't even touch the guitar. Sublim cover of a Joseph Spence's song, if i dont mistaken. Thanks for posting it
You're absolutely right! I had the same sensation of John's barely touching the fretboard, yet playing wonderfully that "standard" of his live repertoire.
The song is actually one of Spence's classics basically intended to be a spiritual, with strong blues and calypso influences. While playing it, Spence made so many variations to melody that his wife Louise used to complain about its excessive complexity.
John's version is capturing very well the spirit of the song.
You need to hear Ralph McTell's great tribute to Spence called "Hands of Joseph" - in concerts he usually ends it by going into an amazing version of "Great Dreams of Heaven" / "There Will be a Happy Meeting" - with humming and (semi)growling a la Spence even ;-)
Came looking for Ry Cooder and found something awesome and different. The last 100 views are probably me.
Don't worry, @tei1990 will figure it out later. These things can take more than 21 years.

Lovely the way he works "Abide With Me" into the intro. Saw him with Isaac Guillory several times. They did a superb version of "Buckets of Rain".
