Thank you masked FanOfBats. The guy on acid is probably now permanently scarred for life. I live in Austin, TX. And in fact I live next to the world's largest urban colony of bats (altho, they should be wintering in Mexico by now). Because of this, I have actually met Adam West on the bridge that houses them. We party here at the drop of a hat and have no worries about closing major thoroughfares to do so. And a final trivia: the original Batman movie had its World Premier here.
I love how Commissioner Gordon takes Black Widow's hand and gives her a really dignified and sophisticated exit. She was possibly Batman's most charming and sophisticated enemy.
This was one of the last great episodes before the 3rd season which Adam West didn't like or enjoy. (He even called the 3rd and final season an unhappy time in his life.)
It's sad that MissTallulah Bankhead died so soon after this performance. But she really gave a GREAT performance. (Despite being ill.)
The timing of the music is perfect after Robin asks Batman for a favor. The response he gave as "What" mixed with that dopey background tune makes this a bizarre favorite scene of mine.
@jmsweat I see it as cheesy comedic timing. And since, us as the audience, most likely didn't understand the purpose of the hair dryer as well in the beginning, Chief O'Hara is essentially asking the purpose of it for us. And honestly, I can't see Chief O'Hara being an articulate and intelligent cop. Plus, he doesn't even have half the knowledge that Batman & Robin have. That makes him a suitable character to me. If he had Batman & Robin's abilities, then they wouldn't need Batman & Robin.
Interesting the first of the two episodes is called "The Black Widow Strikes Again!" when this is Black Widows only appearance. However in the first part Commisioner Gordon does say to Chief O'Hara that he might not remember the last time Black Widow had struck as it had been some time before.
You'll notice that in all the Batman shows the villians henchmen always had names that somehow fit in with the Villians name. However is there such a spider as "Trapdoor?" that is one of Black Widow's henchmen.
Yes there is. The Trapdoor Spider lives in holes in the ground and pulls in its prey as opposed to living in webs waiting for prey to come to it. Good question :)
Here's something else. In the mid-1970's, Detective Comics introduced the Bat-foe called "Black Spider." A male vigilante-style killer of drug pushers, true. But, a Bat-foe with an arachnoid motif, all the same. I wonder if the writer who came up with that story half-remembered Ms. Bankhead's appearance on this classic TV show?
Right. :) The show likes to make it look like Batman and Robin had a previous encounter with a villain when they really hadn't. Ex. It must be the work of the Joker/Penguin/Riddler/etc.
Divine dahling. Absolutely divine!
