Well, remakes ALWAYS ruin the orignal... I'm a Potter fan, and I can tell you in about twenty years or so there will be a remake. But karate kid was pretty legit.... Not as good as the original though.
The Karate Kid remake is a waste of time and why did Will Smith ruined it by putting his brat kid Jaden in this? The 1984 original is something I would watch than this.
Why do they have a stupid little nigger kid as the karate kid... Karate kid was not black.. But then again the original was made back in the day when if you didn't have a black person in the movie it wasn't racist.. Now it's different
Mr. Miyagi is the name of the man who invented karate, mixing kung fu with a form of okinawan fighting art called te. I thought it was awesome that they used the name in karate kid. But kung fu kid was just an abomination that made no sense with no value to anyone who has actually trained in martial arts and just skewed with everything that made the first one good. the training doesnt make sense, nor do the moves or the asian kid with the fo-hawk in the tournament
This topic reminds me of the "Remake" they did on 007 Goldeneye, which had next to zero relevance to the movie OR the N64 version. The new 007 was fun and all, but c'mon...
I know people have been 'redoing' movies or imitating ideas from other movies for years, but it looks like it's being done now more than ever. Are people/directors really that uncreative these days? Is the movie industry really that desperate? It seems like every other movie, especially ones targeted to the youth came from an idea from another movie (it happens less often with TV shows, but it happens--like the new Thundercats. It's not so bad, but its meant to look new). Also happens with songs
The new Karate Kid isn't even about Karate, it's about KUNG FU! Total difference! Just confusing Americans even more (as if we didn't confuse Chinese and Japanese culture enough already).
@MultiMasterflash Exactly, "a big chunk of them were remakes". The industry is better able to churn out more movies in less time in recent years (probably b/c of bigger budgets and/or more technology).
Don't know if it was mentioned before but you forgot to mention the new Karate Kid the martial arts being practiced was not even KARATE! it was KUNG FU! It should have been called the Kung Fu Kid.
Let's not forget about when, Hollywood remade Dragon Ball into a live action film. I heard that they're going to do the exact same thing to Akira making it into a pil of shit.
Actually, the original Karate Kid was terrible. Good idea, of course, but bad actors, and it had the 80's stunts, where you punch a foot away from someone and they pretend to get hit. The new one was much more interesting.
Same with Clash of the Titans. Took the awesome plot, added better actors, much better effects(No more claymation, umad?)... Yet everyone hates, and hates.
Remakes have been much better than the originals. Get over it fools.
@JohnForester15 Lmfao The original Karate Kid was terrible??You're either blind or dumb as monkey shit.I'd hate to think what you thought was a good movie.

@aliensamuraipirate Or he could like movies that go into greater character and plot depth without waiting for 3 or 4 sequels AT LEAST to find out basic things like villain origins and plot.
Sometimes remakes of movies are superior to their original versions in either quality or financial success, you want proof?
@MultiMasterflash Rarely are 'remakes' actually better--let alone become classics themselves. I'm younger than you, but I seem to appreciate the originals over remakes, rip-offs, and imitations (or 'updates', as some people like to call them) then most people my age or people just a little older than I am. Just my opinion, but I like originality.
Hollywood's been ripping off foreign films for a long time now, it's nothing new.
"Titanic" was a VERY dumbed-down version of the British film "A Night to Remember," for example, with some CGI thrown in and a really gay Hollyweird plot pasted over the real one.
@muesproductions I know. But you said something about Werewolf in London beeing the last good Werewolf flick. But as far as I know, Werewolf in Paris was kind of a sequel to that one and it was quite good.
"The Wolfman" turned out kinda decent. It had an interesting transformation scene and delt with some of the psychosis of the wolfman, I thought it was ok.

@HoodCoderMan you're a fool among fools go ask any karate master and they will tell you, that karate was from kung fu and that chinese people taught them kung fu but they call it karate.
@beatrockas Oh really? And what drunkard told you that? Sure, one can say that one style of fighting is derivitive from another style, or one style is similar to another. But to say that karate and kung fu is the same thing is stupid. You might as well say that Bruce Lee was a karate master and Chuck Norris was a kung fu master. They are two different styles. They are not the same thing. You could say that karate was developed from Kung Fu, but they are not the same.
@HoodCoderMan when you break it down to the basics it is.You might as well say a white person is black and a black person is white no they're the same.
@beatrockas Lord...I'll tell you what. I will do what you said and contact a karate instructor and ask him/her what they think. If they tell me the same thing as you did, I will stand corrected humbled. If on the other hand, they tell me what I've been telling you, I will give you their number so you can hear them for yourself. I am a man of my word. I will get back to you.
Call me racist if you want, I assure you I'm not...but why on earth did they suddenly turn the kid black? No offense to Jaden Smith, but That just doesn't make sense. They might as well have made the fucking karate teacher scottish or british!
" 'Aye ma' boy, nothing like a wee serving 'o haggis after all that karate to trigger an anal evacuation so we can take a wee SHIT all over the original Karate Kid!"
@KaeruthePaladin Funny. Your comment was not racist. However, what's wrong with having Jayden Smith as the star? 'I Am Legend' was a remake of 'The Omega Man' starring Charlton Heston. Was it wrong to make Will Smith the star of 'I Am Legend'? Or what about the remake of 'Catwoman' starring Halle Berry? This is just a new age, especially in cinema where movie makers are colorblind to the star. Color shouldn't matter.
It just seems a bit strange to start changing the race of key characters in movies, that's just my opinion and I'm far from a movie critique though lol.
People relax. the original Karate Kid wasn't even "original". It was Rocky turned into karate. Hell, the same guy who wrote Rocky wrote that one. Nothing is original so relax already.
I liked the new Karate Kid movie. And let's be honest, the original wasn't as great as some of you are trying to make it out to be. It was basically "Rocky" but about Karate and not nearly as good. Plus the fighting in the new one is about 10000000 times better. People are just being nostalgic about their childhood.
@jettsta2401 Honestly, I think if they had titled it something different, nobody would be so butt-hurt about it. It's lke people take this stuff way too seriously. There's even a scene in the movie where Dre's mom calls it karate and he corrects her. People need to just chill.
@sfknns I tell you what's garbage. Those fighting scenes in the original. I remember being 6 years old and actually taking karate at the time watching that movie and knowing they were garbage. Ralph Macchio's pussy ass would have gotten his face smashed 13 ways realistically. At least this kid shows some athleticism.
@Antrizzle2009 , sorry its a classic 80s film everyone knows it! I doubt that jayden smith even knows martial arts at all LOL! besides they were trying to be realistic on the classic 84 version most "fighting" movies these days has all that corny matrix type figthing with wires bullshit I think that shit has run its course LOL! if jayden were to be in lets say a remake of godfather I suppose you're gonna tell me the orginal was crap & the new one is good? LOL!
@sfknns I was agreeing with you everything you said till you said something about realistic. Please. Daniel was a big pussy and everybody knew it. Oh, and which Godfather we talking about? Cuz you can keep that third one LOL.
@Antrizzle2009 , LOL of course he was a big "pussy" he was new to the martial arts world! the point is the acting was far better & so was the story therefore that alone makes it better than the so called remake! I black kid & his mom are down on their luck so they move to beijing? LOL of all places then he learns kung fu in beijing but the movies called KARATE KID! karate is japanese not chinese another fail! & I was talking about the 1st 2 Godfather flims although the 3rd was good to LoL!
@sfknns I understand that, but to me Daniel came off as a douchebag asshole. If anything he deserved to get his ass kicked after the stunt he pulled at the halloween concert. Dre however got his ass whooped just for talking to some random girl the first day he was in the country! And he wasn't down on his luck. His mom's job was transferred to Beijing. Might sound far fetched but its plausible to go to another country for a job. Hell I gotta friend doing construction in Iraq right now.
To be honest, I'm not bothered by the fact they called it that even though it may be kung-fu. I mean, they took and played upon elements from Karate Kid...so to me, the 'remake' was almost like a reinvented...homage?
Personally, I didn't think it was a bad movie. I enjoyed the fact there was a bit more character development than the original, too.
The Uninvited is from a Korean movie (And did not do justice to it ) Tale of Two Sisters=A must for every single true horror fan.
Unfortunately we had to bring all sorts of fuck into The Uninvited. Unfortunately, people must have dumbed down shit just because they cannot read subtitles or don't want to hear Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Japanese from the actors.
Sorry I have really big beef with that. I don't want to see a fucking puppet. I want to see some amazing stuff.
first off, the 1984 Karate kid was called the Karate kid because Mr. Miagyi wasnt Jap. or Chi. he was from Okinawa, and the remake was called Karate Kid because the Movie makers knew there would be no money to be made with the name THE KUNG FU KID....
I think his work in The Rock is pretty good, since it's an action movie and doesn't really matter how bad the acting is. But he did great in Leaving Las Vegas. Even though he might not have deserved to win the Oscar for that, it was still pretty good.
Sometomes I fail o understand what pleases you. If Nic Cage's performance in the new Bad Lieutenant movie was bad to you, then what the hell do you think is a good performance? What was embarrassing about it?
the ''remake''...if thats what you wanna call it like most movies up today was just fucking pointless, fucking predictable nd stupid. for all the directors out there..running out of ideas???? huh? well take your fucking time, sit down ,pullout your pen and paper and actually put effort into writing a story line, try to atleast get me into the movie for umm well just a sec....i used to love movies...havent been to the theaters in fucking 6 years
The call the new movie 'The Karate Kid', even though it is about kung fu. Kung fu is Chinese and karate is Japanese. You are right. They are calling it 'The Karate Kid' just for the money.
@Rmaggedyn Thats exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer. I don't even understand why they couldn't of just called it "New in China" or something like that.
the logical theory is that the only one who can suceed in doing a remake is the original author of the certain art itself but still originality can not have costumized definitions
@hakoi393fy im not saying if i ever saw the mother fucker i would start beating the shit out of him. im just saying he can't act thats all get over it.
haha did you see the "vampires assistant" i hated that movie for fucking one of my favorite books. To bad im not as charismatic as you or i'd rant about it lol
i am starting to think that will smith is forcing his son to be in movies, just like michael jackson was forced into music. hollywood has lost its imagination.
it should be the Kung Fu Kid not karate. i think the point of the karate kid was to show the nerd guy learning the art of karate and whipping the bullies ass in the original . the second was the best and the third was a waste of time
@KrBandidas must be easily angered and provoked then because all he did was speak the truth. Also, good luck finding someone you don't know. Empty threats from an empty person.
the kid was taking a jacket off and putting it back on for like 2 months, then for 2 weeks he was flipping around and shit . Is that how learning karate works? cause im on year 5 and i cant do that shit
The original Karate Kid has nothing to do with the latest one just different storyline tbh i did find it slightly mediocre but the old Karate Kid rules tbh it's not a remake it's just got the same name.
@resilienceman That's a little off. I'm sure they had to use the license. Considering it's the same thing. It may not be the same story but it does have the same exact plot.
Well, remakes ALWAYS ruin the orignal... I'm a Potter fan, and I can tell you in about twenty years or so there will be a remake. But karate kid was pretty legit.... Not as good as the original though.

As in BEIJING, CHINA?
The most ridiculous thing is: KARATE IS NOT CHINESE!
Even the WORD Karate is fucking JAPANESE!
You know, JAPANESE-- like MISTER MIYAGI, who came from OKINAWA, JAPAN?
Wouldn't it be "The Wushu Kid?"
Or at least "The Kung Fu Kid?"
Who the FUCK thought that Karate matches are commonplace in CHINA?
It would be like having Bullfights in India... or gunfights in ancient Rome.

KaeruthePaladin 11 months ago
@KaeruthePaladin Funny. Your comment was not racist. However, what's wrong with having Jayden Smith as the star? 'I Am Legend' was a remake of 'The Omega Man' starring Charlton Heston. Was it wrong to make Will Smith the star of 'I Am Legend'? Or what about the remake of 'Catwoman' starring Halle Berry? This is just a new age, especially in cinema where movie makers are colorblind to the star. Color shouldn't matter.

@HoodCoderMan
It just seems a bit strange to start changing the race of key characters in movies, that's just my opinion and I'm far from a movie critique though lol.
KaeruthePaladin 10 months ago
People relax. the original Karate Kid wasn't even "original". It was Rocky turned into karate. Hell, the same guy who wrote Rocky wrote that one. Nothing is original so relax already.
Antrizzle2009 11 months ago
I liked the new Karate Kid movie. And let's be honest, the original wasn't as great as some of you are trying to make it out to be. It was basically "Rocky" but about Karate and not nearly as good. Plus the fighting in the new one is about 10000000 times better. People are just being nostalgic about their childhood.
Antrizzle2009 11 months ago
@Antrizzle2009 Yeah but it was so different that it could have been a spin off
jettsta2401 11 months ago
@jettsta2401 Honestly, I think if they had titled it something different, nobody would be so butt-hurt about it. It's lke people take this stuff way too seriously. There's even a scene in the movie where Dre's mom calls it karate and he corrects her. People need to just chill.
Antrizzle2009 11 months ago
@Antrizzle2009 , LOL wrong you just don't wanna admit its garbage!
sfknns 10 months ago
@sfknns I tell you what's garbage. Those fighting scenes in the original. I remember being 6 years old and actually taking karate at the time watching that movie and knowing they were garbage. Ralph Macchio's pussy ass would have gotten his face smashed 13 ways realistically. At least this kid shows some athleticism.
Antrizzle2009 10 months ago
@Antrizzle2009 , sorry its a classic 80s film everyone knows it! I doubt that jayden smith even knows martial arts at all LOL! besides they were trying to be realistic on the classic 84 version most "fighting" movies these days has all that corny matrix type figthing with wires bullshit I think that shit has run its course LOL! if jayden were to be in lets say a remake of godfather I suppose you're gonna tell me the orginal was crap & the new one is good? LOL!
sfknns 10 months ago
@sfknns I was agreeing with you everything you said till you said something about realistic. Please. Daniel was a big pussy and everybody knew it. Oh, and which Godfather we talking about? Cuz you can keep that third one LOL.
Antrizzle2009 10 months ago
@Antrizzle2009 , LOL of course he was a big "pussy" he was new to the martial arts world! the point is the acting was far better & so was the story therefore that alone makes it better than the so called remake! I black kid & his mom are down on their luck so they move to beijing? LOL of all places then he learns kung fu in beijing but the movies called KARATE KID! karate is japanese not chinese another fail! & I was talking about the 1st 2 Godfather flims although the 3rd was good to LoL!
sfknns 10 months ago
@sfknns I understand that, but to me Daniel came off as a douchebag asshole. If anything he deserved to get his ass kicked after the stunt he pulled at the halloween concert. Dre however got his ass whooped just for talking to some random girl the first day he was in the country! And he wasn't down on his luck. His mom's job was transferred to Beijing. Might sound far fetched but its plausible to go to another country for a job. Hell I gotta friend doing construction in Iraq right now.
Antrizzle2009 10 months ago
@Antrizzle2009 , LOL okay man!
sfknns 10 months ago
"It's karate, not kung-fu!"

TheYzarci 11 months ago
first off, the 1984 Karate kid was called the Karate kid because Mr. Miagyi wasnt Jap. or Chi. he was from Okinawa, and the remake was called Karate Kid because the Movie makers knew there would be no money to be made with the name THE KUNG FU KID....
peleking352 1 year ago
@peleking352 Kinda old, but Okinawa is part of Japan. So, correction, Mr. Miyagi is Japanese.

They are calling it 'The Karate Kid' just for the money.

the logical theory is that the only one who can suceed in doing a remake is the original author of the certain art itself but still originality can not have costumized definitions

it should be the Kung Fu Kid not karate. i think the point of the karate kid was to show the nerd guy learning the art of karate and whipping the bullies ass in the original . the second was the best and the third was a waste of time
