I don't think it is right to live breathing that air...it is a horrible way to go when we could be just harvesting the endless sun. As desperate as I am for work, I'd rather be scrambling to survive that to die like that...plently of other worthy occupations to bring in pay to survive. I breathed that stuff in a school where it was thick on the windowsills no matter how much it was dusted every day. Now I have emphysema.
coal mining isn't a job it a way of life. if it wasn't for the coal mines then i wouldn't have what i have today. i am blessed.... i thank the god lord above every day i wake up and every time i get to make it out to see the sun shine onece again..

i would like to thank all mineres that put there lives on the line to bring our pecious recorces out... without you guys i would not have a job making steel
I know a lot of people from the States don't know about it... But 18 years ago on Sunday it will be the anniversary of the worst mine disaster of Nova Scotia, in over 100 years. 26 men went down on Friday night, only to die at 5:18am on Saturday morning, due to a methane explosion. It was unsafe, and yet the company still let it stay open, after compliments had been made to the labor board... Justice is waiting to be had, but those men and their families will never have it... The Villians won.
Im doing a paper for a history class and i would like to interview a coal miner about the job and what they can say about it. I have questions and I was wondering if anyone would volunteer to help me out. My youtube channel is joelthelobo please just send me a private message it would be great thanks.
nice video man. im a coal miner. i agree its a hard job pay's well but its never enough for what you do under there. but i love it. when you get to know everyone your like one big family
@wvgurl24x4 I just want you to know that I've spent a lifetime in coal mining, I'm a third generation miner and no one I know of has ever heard a coal company official say that the company made any money. Quite the opposite, it's always things are tight, the coal prices just got cut, the hauling rates went up, etc.. Of course they don't want us to know what the people that are leaning back in their chairs drinking coffee in a clean air conditioned office is being paid.
My Dad is a coal miner worked above ground, and underground . Its a very dangerous Job. Not to mention HARD work. My grandpa was a miner for over 40 years and my great grandpa, uncles. Its wv way of life. We love our miners. They work hard for there families. I am PROUD OF THEM ALL. And proud to be a miners daughter..
I agree with beatifuldisasterHS to some degree. I normally do not say we need Union however being the grand daughter of one who faught for the Union when it was first formed I beleive that the Coal Miners do need it. My brother was a coal miner and now his son works in one as well as many family members and friends. I pray for them all. It's a hard and dangerous job but in these areas it is what takes care of the bills.
First off I want to say rest in peace to the latest victims of corporate greed and pray for their families. Secondly, I want to say that it makes me damn mad that a man would even consider working in a mine without the union there to support him,and most importantly, his family. Wake the hell up man. Your lives at stake and people very close to you want to see you walking through that door everyday!
@coal60 they try to tell the miners they won't be able to operate and it will cost jobs if the union comes in. Back when my grandfather worked in the mines you not only worked for the company but you rented your house from them and got money call script. You could only spend it at the company store. So not only did the company make money off of them, the got almost every dime the "paid" them back.
you can tell that these are all non union mines cause nobody in this video is wearing safety glasses if the company cared about you they would make it madatory unions make the company care
the one thing you need to do is go to miners training call or look in local papers for a advertisment when you are complete put your resume into coal mines and hope you get hired on
first of to get into mining you have to signe up for a class usually 40 hours in ky but in west virginia its a 80 hr class and some places like the O.M.S.L(office of mine safety and liscensing) will do it for free , in ky i whent to one and grad. from it and it was all free , for underground, and in west v. i aint sure how there system works, but you need to get a hold of your local OMSL and they will give you all the info, when your done with training you are ready to apply for a job
How do you get into coal mining do you have to know someone or be related to someone? I would like to get into it but don't know how. I live in WV and don't know if I should just forget about mining and go to college.
@BurningUp99 hey i live in Huntington WV you should tink about collage ether way But coal mining is good money but anyway Massey energy is hireing right now i think im thinkingabout applying just find there # and give them a call
was my first job after leaving school in nottinghamshire in 1984 , was an apprentice footballer at time but my dads words were "son you never make any money in football , got you a job down pit ya going there lol" wise words not , but loved my 3 years would go bk tomo no other job gives you the comradeship and trust like this job and the whole village worked there so you knew everyone .. miss it now
Thank you for posting great video. Bless all miners worldwide they are brave men, I found on youtube a miners song called "its a working man I am" sung by Rita MacNeil about the Welsh miners which is worth watching. Most of the mines closed in Wales after the 1984-85 miners strike leaving thousands unemployed.
My Daddy worked in coal for years so low that it wasn't really even a crawl space. He crawled flat on his belly using his elbows to crawl or drag. In this type coal knee pads helped but his poor legs looked ragged most of the time. My Daddy is still my hero!! Almost 60 and still working.
Coal miners dont die they just dig there graves deeper. Like the video these guys got some balls workin in low coal i couldnt even imagine and i bitch about 5 ft top
Great video. I come from a long line of coal miners and now I'm married to one. He is a miner man. This is a good video for people to get an idea of how brave these guys really are. I tell people that my husband has two families. Us at home and his coal miner family. Because thats what they are. They take care and watch out for each other under the hill. From a WVa coal miners wife.
seeing them fellers bent over wears on me, I remember the days. In a seven foot seam now flat and black....wish we all could be that lucky... mine that coal fellers they say we're always behind...be safe
Set spads in eastern KY and WV for over 10 years , 24" to 15' where the falls occured LOL and worked a little production, miss the guys but not the conditions, glad I'm out. I appreciate you guys, keep your heads down and watch the top.
Left the mines 7 years ago for the Marines. Still dream about pull'n pillers. My war is almost done and I'll head back to the hole and find me a good 21SC somewhere. God I miss it.
im in mining in indiana ill tell you its tough work but to me well worth it got the best people i know right down there with me. lookin forward to goin to work everyday
@stud19801978 I worked with your Dad the entire time he was at Massey. He was a very good man and a good coal miner. What a tragedy and loss I think of your Dad often. He didn't do anything wrong he was always such a safe miner. I feel your loss. I lost a good friend.
I went to the mines 12 years ago right out of high school. My grandfather was a coal miner. my father hauls the coal from the same mine his father worked at and I currently work in WV. I couldn't see myself doing anything else.
Good fellows!! I too worked as the miner. And now I continue to keep in touch with miners. My friends have collected certificates of destruction of 982 miners which were lost from the beginning of operation of the Karaganda coal basin... It not all... Collect further... But they say that a part will not find as those perished also who sat in тюрмах at the very beginning of pool working out (look видеответ beard60) Eternal memory to our brothers...
I work in colorado in a mine and I dont really think I would like that love seam coal mining..... I have talked to some guys that have came from back east to work over here and they say that they really dont like the high seam.
I have never heard this song. It is great and well done by one of my favorites. My daughter sings a song written by Darrell Scott. You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive...check her out..Ginny McAfee..thanks a very proud mama...
Great Great Video, best pics. I have seen in a long time. I work in the Engineering department for a Coal Company and go underground quit a bit, these men are the hardest working men in the world, they come to work with a good attitude and a positive attitude, all they are worried about is supporting there family. Hats off to the Coal Miners
Any advice for a future coal miner?

Great Great Video, best pics. I have seen in a long time. I work in the Engineering department for a Coal Company and go underground quit a bit, these men are the hardest working men in the world, they come to work with a good attitude and a positive attitude, all they are worried about is supporting there family. Hats off to the Coal Miners
