i was on college and Alcatraz on a friday night, waiting for the bus north bound and i saw a bicyclists without a helmet who was going South On college avenue and there was another car behind him with an older guy driving, the driver saw a parking space and went for it clipping the bicyclists sending him to the ground! then the guy got out of the car and acted like everything was cool and shook hands with the bicyclist he almost hit, what a joke!
Yes, this could result in a collision, but it isn't exactly "dangerous", but rather more of a "risk." Traffic does not appear to be moving at a fast rate through here. Oh, and in Massachusetts, Jaywalking is a $1 fine, and is never enforced.
@lukebccb I read a study in a magazine that found that about 1 in 8 people would fail if randomly asked to retake their driving test. It is way too easy to get your license, and it's too big a responsibility to just be handing them out the way we do. At least it is way better here than on the east coast. When I lived in Florida I wanted to kill myself everytime I had to drive somewhere because there were so many idiots on the road I was constantly dodging accidents.
Parking in Downtown Palo Alto isn't so bad if you're willing to walk a couple blocks.
Hell, I go to dinner often in downtown Palo Alto and there are plenty of parking spots just a five minute walk from University Avenue even on the busiest Friday evenings.
Charge a price for curb parking. Some people will pay, which generates badly needed revenue, and some will walk, bike or take transit. None of those spaces should be free.

This would not be illegal where I am from. The inconsistent laws from state to state are a big reason for this type of confusion.

@kgriggs75
No. This is the only way California is still in existence, they ticket and fine the crap out of it's citizens.

That's typical in Palo Alto. I know - I work nearby and see this all the time. It amazes me that more accidents don't happen.
