  • I just thought I'd say I love this game; As a game developer I find it extremely inspirational. I play it whenever I feel down, it totally gives me the inspiration to keep going. You rock Daniel!

  • Oh yeah, I just want to let you know that your game can cause seizures. I shown it to one of my friends (It in hard difficulty) to show how good I am in your game. With all those sprites and flashy black and white effects flying everywhere while focusing on a tiny little guy, um...yeah that could effect some people, you know. Lol :/ It was a good thing that he was all right.

Just a heads up there for anyone who is thinking that they can take on the hard difficulty in this game! Its a GREAT GAME!

  • I thought it looked sucky at first. But once I gave it a try, I had a blast playing it! Lol! Don't judge a "game" by its "graphics" :P

    AWESOME GAME!!!

  • THIS LOOKS SO COOL :D I just got it and only played it once so far,,, And theres good news!

    RUNS ON A NETBOOK XD

  • This game is fantastic, definitely your best so far. I beat Normal in a little over an hour and I'm going to play through Hard later on.

  • is that a baby fetus?!?!?!

  • Beat the game ;-)

  • You should port this to Flash. :)

  • WELP

    THERE GOES SLEEPING

  • shmup and metroidvania. lethal combination.

  • And Q,A (up-down) O,P (left-right) SPACE (fire) on keyboard.. ^^

Yeah baby, that was cool ! :D

  • I beat this yesterday. It is awesome! Download it now!

  • Wow! The game has two whole colors?! Thats one more color than I thought it would have!

Truly a wonder of this modern age.

  • So, was I the only one that thought that the boss of the "guardian" zone looked like shockwave?

  • I played this game and it was AWESOME.

    Amazingly retro.

  • the game looks pretty bad ass but i was wondering if your planing on making one with color.

  • @avptv My only games without color are this one and Hero. If you mean a Hero game with color, I dunno if that would feel right. :p

  • @avptv You're missing the whole point...

  • @avptv Woa woa... you need more than 2? My monitor smokes with these 2 already.

    3 colors? Madness.

  • thank you Remar Games!

  • I'll be honest. I had the chills at 1:00. The trailer was perfect up until then.

  • This game is awesome.

  • Yeah, that comment was out of hand. I was a bit pissed off that night. I have removed my comment, as it was indeed a ridiculous expression. :L

  • This is an AWESOME Game. Just Finished it on Ahniahlatr mode.

  • Best ZX81 game ever!

  • I'm kinda sick of games with retro graphics... I like to see people make their own uniquely styled graphics. 8-bit has been done so many times. I really like this game though, so you get a free pass. :P

  • chosentonessournote and thatsaltypeanut should for their own sake consider removing their comments for being the most childish and embarrasing yet -_-

  • @Ultimortal Meh, I apologize. I just get beyond frustrated when I see people who have no idea what they're talking about spouting off as if they know everything about everything. I'm not exactly a "turn the other cheek" kind of guy, so you'll have to forgive me for sticking up for you.

  • @chosentonessournotes Still, every person you meet would disagree with you on a hundred things, few worth getting worked up over. I thought island380's comments were really funny.

  • @Ultimortal True... So, on to other matters... Did you make this with Game Maker? If so, I believe it has iOS support... Did you ever think of releasing it for the AppStore for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPads? Compared to most of the shit in the store, if you sold it for $4.99 people would buy it. No kidding. You already have a pretty big fanbase, and I know I would buy it, along with a bunch of other people. Think about it!

  • @chosentonessournotes Yes, it's GM. Developing it to other platforms is being considered, but it needs to pay for the development time which isn't easy. Around 1-2% buy most indie games compared to downloading free versions and demos, and in this case there's already a free full version for Windows. In the case of iPhone, publishing through YoYoGames sounds worse the more I read about it, better do it for XBLIG.

  • @Ultimortal Blah... :( I would literally kill a man to get this on my iTouch. I don't have an Xbox 360, so I'm gonna end up missing out on that if you do end up doing it... But I'm serious dude. I've seen games half as good as this be number one for months on the paid section. I guarantee that people would buy it... All you gotta do is release the full version for whatever price you see fit, and have a lite version, something that ends like after the first boss. Believe, people would buy it.

  • @chosentonessournotes We (Ludosity) thought more people would buy Mama & Son and Garden Gnome Carnage on XBLIG too. >_> I don't have anything newer than a GameCube myself, so I'm kind of out of the loop on modern platforms...

  • This game... Fucking INCREDIBLE.

  • Wow, after the unexpected and crushing disappointment of Metroid: Other M, this is exactly what I needed.

    Awesome! :D

And let the hatespeech kid know that good games do not need good graphics. It's someone gaming since the '70s that's talking, we got 30+ years of gaming experience, hence we're 30 years ahead.

Think about that next time. Adults may be watching.

  • @neuzd I wouldn't say any crushing disappointment was unexpected in a fanfiction where all the writer knew was there should be someone named Samus in it.

  • @Ultimortal I dont disagree about the quality of Other M plot, but this is pretty much what the head of metroid wanted to do, they had been meaning to introduce this backplot with Adam for a while now, it's just disappointing that it was done in such an incredibly plain way.

  • @neuzd You should give cave story a try.

  • @Advent46 I think I did at least 3 years ago, if not before....but thanks anyway : )

  • @neuzd I love Metroid: Other M. The gameplay was fast, fun and fresh. There's no question the plot and presentation was lame, but that's EXACTLY what I expected from a Team Ninja game. As a video game, the game succeeds. I've been a Metroid fan since 1995; I was thoroughly happy and refreshed after the tediousness of the Prime games.

  • @neuzd Agreed! I started gaming in about 1980, stopped in 2005 but i went through all those systems like the hand held game & watch LCD, Hanimex Pong style system, CBS Colecovision, Atari 2600, C64, Amiga, PC and now nothing :( This game looks great though so i will definitely give it a shot! :)

  • Ah... great game! I spent three hours total yesterday to beat normal and the Annihilation level. I played Iji before this (100% completion :D) and I felt the intensity grow as I read the name to the gaiden story.

Btw Ultimortal, you should make the 'warmachine' harder because I found the annihilator fight several screens before it much more difficult.

  • This game is awesome. I love it!

  • If I run this on "XP compatibility" on 7, will the motion blur show up, or is it just part of the OS that it won't work?

  • reminds me of vvvvv

  • Chill out dude! this comment wasnt directed to u and Ultimortal i suggest you make the graphics better! if ya do ill salute you and @thatsaltypeanut please dont get pissed off on me just cuz i said something about this game. You good sir must be a hardcore fan of this game or something and Ultimortal not to be mean but this game is actualy ok ive tried it but the graphics are lame...Well i bid you farewell!...for some time until you reply.

  • @island380 .The whole point is that the graphics look like this, think vintage.

  • @island380 .The whole point is that the graphics look like this, think vintage. But nevermind, your previous comment makes you seem like a complete raving douche

  • @Androidindisguise Let's all hold hands and be friends.

  • @island380 The graphics in this game are actually very good. There is an incredibly high amount of detail given the small number of pixels (and colors!) available. It's quite easy to tell enemies apart, the environments are believable, and the particle effects (though rare) are impressive.

You don't have to like the lack of color or the low number of pixels, but don't deny that the graphics are high-quality.

  • Comment removed

  • Why so serious

  • Comment removed

  • @thatsaltypeanut Lol, somebody raged. xD

  • @island380 lol

  • @island380 You know, maiby you may not like the graphics 'cause the lack of colors, but I think the enviroment may be really good, even without more than 2 colors, If that's the case and the gameplay it's good, you might found a really good game, better than games with amazings graphics in HD but with a terrible gameplay.

  • You know? maybe you might not like the lack of colors, but even with no more than 2 colors, if the enviroment on a game it's good, and you have a good gameplay there, you might found a game that might be better to games with graphics in HD that looks awesome but have a terrible gameplay and don't makes you have fun.

(Don't know how fun this game might be, I haven't played it, but still with that I think you shouldn't judge it so hard to say it's bullshit only 'cause it's graphics),

  • @Smuter01

I would say that the environments are this game's graphical weak point. The enemies are really well done, but the levels just don't look very good.

Of course the gameplay is great and that's what matters.

  • I didn't know you could deflect those with slicer

  • it's a little heavy at 2.4 MB though :)

  • @DarkShroom and lol yeah i gave this a go, this is a little gem, really is. The non linearity has got to be the most satisfying aspect.

  • Just finished my first run through of this game. I got to say, it was fantastic! I certainly wasn't expecting much at all from the footage I'd seen, but it's a lot more fun actually playing the game I can tell you. Really nice approach to the style of gameplay, and I especially enjoyed the boss fights. Great job on this one!

  • this game is utterly awesome

  • awesome

  • coming in 2010 space invaders!:the rpg

  • cool game :) i just started to play with it :)

  • I don't know why this clip gets spammed all the time, when it's not even my most popular clip.

  • I would love to see this game on consoles... Even they can add colors like very vibrant colors and a unique art stye, BUT EVEN IN BLACK AND WHITE IT'S AWESOME!!!

  • Is there any particular reason you hid the HUD in this trailer?

  • @Ponicalica I thought it would be distracting, especially since it would change for every scene.

  • Tetron's theme is WTFawesome.

    ..Just saying.

  • Actually, one thing else to mention: Zero, the Level 0 Specialist needs some friends.

  • Pfft, my dad beat reallyjoel's dad difficulty.

But in all seriousness, I think this was an even better game than Iji, and that's something to top. Just all the retroness got to me.

I beat Normal, Hard, and Annhilation, and I just have one question: The ending to Annhilation, does it mean that Flip Hero and Tetron were created for the war between the Tasen and the Komato?

  • @MachRiderZero Annihilation is more of a reference for those who played Iji and read the logbooks, don't put any thought into how the games fit together. I didn't. :p

  • looks cool

  • nevermind my post. It keeps marking it as spam. I may have repeated one segment

  • Normal mode? Peice of cake.

Hard mode? Makes me cry manly tears.

  • @Slaanash It's ok, Slaanash. Men are allowed to cry too.

  • It looks like a piece of art for us retrogamers! great job :)

  • I started, and finished it today, it's a great game that i would recomend to anyone. I got 95% on my first run, only now do i realised that i should have beaten the random apperaing boss :(

  • This game is awesome ass-kicking expirience!

    -Orginal bosses!

    -Oldsqul graphic!

    -Fun gameplay!

    -Great music!

    -breathtaking history!

    When HC2?

  • @MrGolibroda Do you think Tetron and Flip Hero will rise from the space dust?

  • @MyOtheHedgeFox

Of course they wil. Even in greater style!

This game cannot be lost, its too briliant!

  • Feels like the old arcade has come home...

    Hero, Iji... Hero Core...

You're probably my favorite indie developer right now :O

Hero 3d is just evil though... :X

"I'm going to kill whoever made this game!"

When Iji said that I just laughed and said "That's how I feel!!!"

  • Ultimortal, you've done it again...you and your scrambled language! ^_^

In case anyone's wondering, set the language to Retro, and laugh a little.

    You sure have a sense of humour, comrade. 5 stars. Haven't tried Hard, but I've gotten Annihilator difficulty unlocked. Also, I took down Tetron at about L4 or so. Lucky thing I picked up 2 Anti-Overheats. I almost thought the battle was over when I finished off round 1. And then he flooded the room with lava during round 2. ^_^;

  • @SaviourV Tetron's quite the gentleman of war, isn't he? :)

  • I see some people talking about a hidden difficulty. I beat Normal hard and annihilation all with 100% and I still can't find it, they don't mean hero forever do they?

  • Spent hours playing this today. It's some sweet, sweet retrocandy.

I wonder, Ultimortal, did Air Fortress for the NES influence your Hero games?

Also: Annihilation difficulty just about has me screaming and throwing things. I still can't defeat the Annihilator in the engine area.

  • @meadslosh I didn't play Air Fortress until after Hero was released (2004), the games are more inspired by Metroid, H.E.R.O. and Section Z. But I've no idea how many subconcious influences are in there. :)

  • @Ultimortal Well, Metroid is obvious. I'm unfamiliar with H.E.R.O., I'm afraid. Spent another hour playing today, still can't beat that Annihilator.

  • So this is an expansion on Hero 3D in Iji?

Was it even possible to finish that game on the terminal in Iji? I remember a log saying it has 9 levels which loop forever...

  • @sinclose678 This is the sequel to Hero, of which Hero 3D in Iji is a reference. You could say they are both sequels. :p

You can "beat" Hero 3D (the ninth level has some color-cycling flowers and extra lives instead of enemies), but the enemies just get tougher everytime, and the spinning spotlight is much faster after clearing it once. But there's no reward for Hero 3D no matter how far you get.

  • I think I've done just about everything except defeat Tetron on Hard with no upgrades (which I'm about to attempt). The spoiler boss brought a big grin to my face before I was obliterated the first time, but it was actually one of the easier bosses to master.

    Outstanding work, as always.

  • Just finished it on normal level, it was a real blast! Great bosses, frenetic action and fitting music. Warping is a great idea. Fantastic job D. Remar!

  • Very awesome game! After seeing what you did in Iji I just had to play it, and now I've just finished it on Normal in just under two hectic hours. I look forward to your future projects! :D

  • This game runs on linux as well. Its works great with wine.

  • Note that if you want to warp to some distant savepoint, you'd better hold some arrow key when you prepare to warp away. Or else you'll quickly respawn on the last visited one.

  • Waiting for translation resources. Hope Russian users will treat this one really well: such a game can't be skipped easily.

  • @MyOtheHedgeFox This one is helpful when you run the game on Linux. Windows users, don't worry, your system has less quirks to remember. ;)

  • Please make a Mac port of this!

  • Independent gaming is amazing. This is one of the reasons I still run a Windows system: Daniel Remar games.

  • Oh man, this game is coming out tomorrow :D

  • this game surely has something which i call a 'style'!

    nice chiptunes.

  • This game looks so cool. I'd really like to download the soundtrack sometime.

  • I thank you for these many bits.

  • The music is very nice

  • I wonder which is the platform this game is based on? I mean if this game has been made for a 8-bit computer or console that's not revealed anywhere. Hope it exists for ZX Spectrum. :)

  • @rdisky40 It's not meant to look like any console in particular - at least I don't know one that runs in black and white in perfectly square resolution that can handle this many objects. :p

I just realized I didn't write anywhere that it's Windows only, for those who haven't played my other games.

  • @Ultimortal It actually looks a lot like a game made for an older cell phone. Space Impact, for example.

  • @Ultimortal Annotations, my boy

  • I'm going to Let's Play the hell out of this when it's done, if that's okay.

  • @largebiscuits Dan Remar would probably like that. He enjoyed it when DeceasedCrab LPed Iji.

  • Oh man, this is some sweet 8-bit music. Any ideas if Brother Android will be releasing the soundtrack for this game when it's released?

Either way, I'm looking forward to playing this on the 1st of May

  • @ChazFoxMCR I'll ask him, but I'm pretty sure he'd like to relase the soundtrack separately as well.

  • @ChazFoxMCR Hero Core OST released today! You can download or steam free here

    8bitcollective[.]com/forums/viewtopic[.]php?pid=315317

  • boring and unoriginal.

  • @gamesaresweet You made a youtube account just to say that a game you haven't played is boring and unoriginal.

  • Does Flip Hero now have Retribution? I thought I saw something like it(or the "bomb" from a shmup) in this video.

  • music reminds me of 8 bit kurt weihl

  • It looks amazing I can't wait to play it :).

  • Hero was damn sweet, I will beat it once again during waiting for the sequel.

  • May 1st? My birthday? Awesome, now that's a present I want, another kick-ass Remar game.

  • Haha you chums, I have been playing this for a year! Moahaha. It's awesome.

  • Hey, Ultimortal, are there going to be references to Iji in Hero Core like you have Hero references in Iji?

  • @WatGob Possibly. :p

  • @Ultimortal So, there will probably be Iji 3D ;D

  • @Ultimortal Heh, I'd love to see that. And I can't wait for v1.7 for Iji. Can't wait to see the modified Pacifist ending.

  • @Ultimortal ...just watch out for Annihilators, eh? ;P

  • Very Cool

  • Holy crap it's Sector Z!

  • Ooooh man, I want to play this game so much.

Do I really have to wait until May 1st?

  • This game turned out to be more than I expected. Great job. I can add this to one of the few games I'm looking forward to.

  • Ultimortal i have always love your games, looks like this one could get pretty hectic.

it would be so cool if games like GGC could amek it onto the Ipod touch (i don't know about copyright with game maker though)

  • Iji was awesome, yeah, but Herocore looks awesome too! :D

  • This looks really cool!

  • Awesome, I look forward to this!

  • Looks and sounds wonderful

  • Amazing, can't wait to play it

  • I am psyched. Eagerly awaiting release.

  • Looks great Daniel. I'm sure we'll have as much with Hero Core was we did with Iji.

    I'm trying to make a game with GameMaker right now..but damned if i can figure out the right coding for what i need. -_-;

  • Yes. Yes. Yes.

    YES

  • neato!

    love Brother Android too

  • It has a lot of similarities with Hero 3D in Iji.

  • @ShineTheHedgehog Hero 3D and Hero Core were both based on Hero, a game I made in 2004. That game was in turn inspired by Section Z and H.E.R.O.

  • @Ultimortal Which was hard as mess.

  • 2 colors simultaneously? WHAT? I WANT THIS NAO.

  • Oh, great! I've been waiting for this. :D

  • It looks awesome! I can't wait to try it. :) Another hit from remar games.
