I have accomplished this "mission" six years ago. I am a NICHIREN practitioner, but I do NOT care for the Soka Gakkai or Ikeda daisaku! So far as I am concerned, he is a megalomaniac! The Soka Kyokai Gakkai under Josei Toda and Tsuneburu Makiguchi was TOTALLY different! The SGI today is essentially an arm (from what I understand) of the NKP (New Koumeito Party)! STAY CLEAR OF SGI!

Once and for all the Soka Gakkai is not a cult - it is a group of sincere members, ordinary people who practice Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, just as he taught in the Gosho. We work together to fight for world peace and the happiness of each individual no matter what their current circumstances may be. When i joined was right after the SgI was ex-communicated by Nichiren Shoshu - how is that humanistic? I'm glad we we're given our spiritual independence from the priesthood.

The great majority of Nichiren Diashonin's writings in the Goshos consist of his relationships with ordinary people who had struggles in their daily like just like we have today. These people on many occassions put their lives on the line to aid the Daishonin in spreading his teaching. THE SGI IS MADE UP OF ORDINARY PEOPLE who on a daily basis is fight for Kosen Rufu according to the Daishonin's teaching............ As I recall, it was the SGI who shakubukued me. It wasn't the priesthood.

Nichiren Daishonin was a priest that's true, but it was the Daishonin who also said that priest have flaws too and you must challenge those flaws with courage just like he did. Remember most of the Daishonin's conflicts were with priest. I too was a member of Nichiren Shoshu. I start my practice in 1975. It is the lay organization of Nichiren Shoshu (now known as the SGI) behind why I practice . If you are from the USA, it was President Ikeda that started the movement here, not NS

I am a proud SGI member. The Priest hood of Nichiren Shoshu is no different than the Clergys of Christian religions, it's all about THEM. Nichiren Diashonin had always warned his followers of the priesthood. Don't forget 4 out of the 5 priest ended up distorting the Daishonin's teachings. And the priest hood are still distorting his teachings to this day. It was ordinary people such as Shijo Kingo who aided the Daishonin in spreading THE LAW, not members of the priesthood. READ THE GOSHOS.

When I was a member of SGI after the turn from the temple in late 80's everything changed. The SGI was telling us to chant for the death of the priest and would tell us how the Priest had chopped down 200 cherry trees! Well that just about did it for me. I said, that man must be awful strong to cut down 200 trees. What am I doing with you? So I left... and there was no trees cut down when we went to Japan to see the Gohonzon.

There are many groups that chant NMRK. There are many types of priests. If I followed a Shoshu priest during WWII we would be further deluted by Shinto. If Japan won that war where would Shoshu be. You would be more Shinto than Nichiren for sure. You should thank the SGI for saving the priesthood 4 as long as we could.

@MYOHOAMA I am torn between Nichiren sects. Generally I am considered an SGI member but I cannot stand the organization. I still practice my Buddhism and chant and do studying. But I don't attend meetings anymore or associate myself with SGI. I have been with SGI (formerly NSA) since August 31 1986. I grew up with it and I really get upset with the worship of Ikeda Daisaku and how people think he is some god or pope. I love my form of Buddhism but the organization is very cult like.
