Plantation experiences varied. Some slaves ate the same food as "Marster", slept on straw mat/chicken feather beds, had a few clothes and weren't ever beaten. Others were forced to eat left overs from a pig trough, weren't allowed to wear clothes until their teens, were beaten regularly, raped frequently, humiliated daily, and suffered in constant fear of death.
Literacy was so powerful that it was forbidden to slaves. Some don't understand how powerful literacy is in this day and age.

You made a great point about the education system. Its not so much what they teach but what they don't teach. They teach about Rome and Greece, but they don't teach where Rome and Greece got their knowledge from Egyptians who were black.. If they teach you about egypt they say they were not black

@tooblack09 Whose responsibility is it to teach a black child about being black? Whose responsibility is it to teach black history? Whites built a system for "themselves." We should not expect "them" to teach our children about us. They are the victors. They are going to teach from "their" perspective. We need to stop pointing the finger and direct the responsibility with where it should be held.
