@tantris3 dalmationham, Smith's fantasy goes on in vs. 15 to say the Nephites read prophesies somewhere in Egyptian that told them that the Christ who would appear to them would have holes in his hands, feet and side; and being all doubting Thomases thousands had to convince themselves by having God stand there for hours suffering this indignity. So God/Father had to resurrect his Son with the holes in this imperfect body, to be resurrected again sometime later with a perfect body.

My boyfriend has a real problem with the necessary suspension of disbelief in opera. But we watched this DVD last night, and he was spellbound. And I have to agree with him, there's really something special about having this piece performed in a period production by two singers who can actually look and act their parts, let alone sing them. A rare treat indeed.

@Chrysothemis What a lovely compliment! I am so pleased that what Jaqueline and I did over 40 years ago can touch someone today. I still teach and am looking for attractive musical people to build these kinds of voices and presentations in SF. We did these scenes at the castle in Ghent, Belgium in 1968 with mostly one 'take' filming and improvised acting.

Where ,my God, all this school went?, why there are no longer on the big theater leagues, singers like this?. Probably due to crazy staggings and "too soon debuting artists"??...who knows!!!!. BRAVOOO!!!!! this are both the best in my humble opinion!!!

What a marvellous duet, Claude you have, dignity, class and an incredible charisma on this great Operas movie . Not to mention your gigantesque nice voice tone.

You are an exemple of the way to use for all heroique tenors in the world.

Jacqueline Van Qualle sings clear and beautifully -- why have we not heard more about her, why was she less known? So musical and easy..As it was written to be sung..They need a singer like that now for Wagner..

and a very feminine presence on the "stage" of this film, lovely (she's not responsable for the hair style!)

I'm wondering if this 18 year old jth0134 has ever heard live opera in a major house?Likely not. He picks Jussi Bjourling as his favorite Wagner tenor who had the tiniest voice at the 'Met' and could never be heard with a Tristan orchestra. The demands of Act 3 Tristan are far different than Wagner's 'Traume'.

Nice use of transference! I do love Bjorling's voice (I had not heard of it being small, but will take your word for it). And no, I have never been to a major house, but I have heard many live operas. If Claude Heater can fill a house, GREAT! It needs to be done. But none of this has to do with me finding his voice to be too wobbly. Surely you are not suggesting that a voice need be that type of timbre in order to fill a house!
