  • I wish I could roll my R's like you

  • Glenmorangie original is the 4th single malt I've tried (behind The Glenlivet, Laphroag, and Speyburn)- and it's hard to believe there might exist a more delicious substance on the planet. Truly, this whisky is magnificent. Of course I will keep exploring, but so far, this is the best thing my tongue has had the privilege to touch.

  • i have a bottle of the stuff i have not opened it yet ;)

  • Great review, I bought it today and I always check to see what Ralfy says before opening. Glenmorangie is now my favorite young whiskey.

  • This tastes like springtime in a bottle to me. Lovely stuff!

  • Tried some Glenmorangie original for the first time tonight - amazing! 4th single malt for this young beginner and I am truly blown away. Love the reviews Ralfy

  • what brand of scotch would you recommend to someone just starting off drinking scotch? preferably something not too expensive. around 40-60$ a bottle here in america. something not too strong, preferably fruity, easy to drink? thanks

  • Hello Ralfy, I recently picked up a bottle of Glenmorangie Lasanta that was on sale at the grocery store, because I can no longer find Glenmorangie with the burgundy finish. Then I read that many of these bottlings have some kind of sulfur contamination, giving them a sulfur flavor. Now I'm afraid to open it. I can only afford to buy a bottle of good scotch about once a year, so should I take it back?

  • @AaronBenjBrown

if the bottle is still sealed, and you are really concerned, go back to the seller and ask to exchange for Old Pulteney 17yo or Glenfarclas 15yo ... or something of your choice.

  • @ralfystuff thanks :)

  • Thanks to this review I recently bought a bottle of the 10 Year Glenmorangie. I was not disappointed in the least! It really is impressive for such a young whiskey. Not to over hype it, I'm sure you can do better (maybe not for the same money), but I'm sure you could do much worse as well! I guess 1 million Scots can't be wrong! Thanks for the excellent recommendation! I will enjoy this til the last drop.

  • Dear Ralfy have you ever tried monkey shoulder triple malt whisky?

  • @Sekaigun

yes, it was not nice !

  • Complex but best way to describe it is quite sweet. It was okay but nothing to make me go out and make it my next bottle purchase.

  • Sipping this malt now for the first time. Its very nice light and sweet, I like it alot. I get big apricot and citrus notes. First whisky Ive tasted apricot in.

  • Just a heads up fellow Christmas Malt Mates. Glenmorangie put out a gift pack called the "Discovery Pack" which includes a full bottle of the original and includes three 50ml bottles of "Lasanta" "Quinta Ruban" and "Nectar d'Or". So for around forty bucks I got to try the full range and have a full bottle of the original. I got this for christmas and I must say it is quite the malt education to taste the different finishes. My favorite is still The Lasanta though maybe too sweet for peat heads.

  • @BrothuhV84 i didn't get the discovery pack but i did enjoy the Quinta Ruban over the recent holidays. i just came here and found out, per ralfy, i am a 'ponce'. being from the US i had to google it. oh well - back to the dalwhinnie, and my manhood i guess

  • @cybercat08520 I just got the Quinta Ruban as a gift, if I enjoy it does that make me a ponce too ?? LOL. I have only tried the original and have enjoyed it.

  • @keegan1728 I was just sipping on a Quinta Ruban myself. Good stuff I gotta say. Give it a try!

  • Hi Ralfy, your videos inspired me to try single malts ... started with a 12yo Glenlivet and lasted night opened a Glenmorangie Original. Really nice dram I must say, prefer it over the 12yo Glenlivet. Can't elaborate much on different flavours due to my inexperience but I'll get there ;) Santa brought me a Highland Park 12yo and Ardbeg 10yo ... Can't wait to taste those, but I'll take it slowly.. Afraid I won't be able to fully appreciate those yet.

    Happy holidays!

  • @elmaluko The Highland Park and Glenmo are are great starts. The Highland Park will introduce you to more sherry and peat flavors and the Glenmo is certainly more of a sweet and vanilla flavor. Good Luck!

  • @cmelo82

I have been sipping the HP 12 and i really like the smokey aftertaste. Going to give the Ardbeg 10 yo a try tonight :)

  • Thoughts on Singleton Of Glendullan?

  • @Polyfusia

    not tried it yet.

  • Ralfy, have you ever tried the Glenmorangie Lasanta? I've been sipping on it a little bit and I can not figure it out for the life of me (relatively inexperienced with single malt scotch).

  • these are the best reviews ever. i was watching them on my phone in the supermarket while trying to decide what to buy. is there any easy way to find out what your top 5 readily available whiskies are? i was going to glenfiddich 15 yr but went for this one instead based on price and your score.

  • @aftereffects

    in the Supermarket,

    5 - Aberlour 12yo

    4 - Highland PArk 12yo

    3 - Old Pulteney 12yo

    2 - Caol Ila 12yo

    1 - Black Bottle

  • @ralfystuff

thank you for the reply. am i right in inferring that black bottle in your number 1 choice from the readily available supermarket stock? it seems to be the cheapest of the lot!

  • @aftereffects

It's a decent peaty blend and good value compared to many.

  • @ Wolftrap44 I, for one, do care. And maybe watch your language a bit. If you want to get drunk save your money and buy something cheaper. Getting wasted on Scotch is, well, a waste.

  • You're my boy ralfy! Fairly new to scotch whisky and I'm loving it... your reviews have helped me out alot so thank you... I decided to step up to a Islay whisky and going from your reviews I went with the Caol ila and wow it's a lot peatier than what I've had so far. Glad I didn't go straight to the Lopgroaig... My favorite so far has been the Highland Park 12yr, plan on getting the 18yr next

  • Hi Ralfy, quick question(s): Is the Glenmorangie Signet worth the hype and price? And how would it stack up against an Old Pultney 17 yo?

I love your reviews, they help me make good choices plus I learn loads!

    Cheers!

  • @k5000v

Signet is expensive for what it is, and OP 17yo is the one for me in terms of quality.

  • @ralfystuff

Hi Ralfy, what malt would you award the Signet? My friend and I are having a wager between OP/Balblair and the Glenmorangie Signet.

P.s. your comment on "the Signet is expensive for what it is...", does that imply that it is expensive for marketing purposes? The reviews I have read claim that it is an amazing dram (i.e. Jim Murray's Whiskey bible). I know its hard to compare whiskeys because of their individual uniqueness, but a more elaborate explanation would help.

    Thank you!

  • @k5000v

Signet 86/100 . . . expensive for what it is, an over-branded marketed concept..

  • Who gives a rat's ass if it tastes like dainty little tidbits...does it get you fucked up or not

  • @Wolftrap44 Well for that, simply take a gander at the alcohol percentage lol

  • Ralfy you legend!

Sitting down and comaring this with a Glenfiddich 12 and I cant tell the difference by nosing. I can tell by tasting but not by nosing.

Is this normal? How different do you find these two whiskies?

  • @cpaxinos

just take you time and be patient with yourself, it will happen for you ! . . . good luck.

  • Comment removed

  • Ralfy what is your opinion of the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban? I really liked the old Port wood finish but i just can't make up my mind about this one. On first taste i got a lot of sweetness, candied fruits, chocolate, citrus and mint and the addition of water left a very nice oily, velvety texture. However i just felt the taste didn't really develop and just sort of stuck. Worth a drink but i was a bit disappointed after being so excited to try.

  • @themitre

reasonable but does not sparkle like it should !

  • I finally took your advice Ralfy, and picked up a bottle of the 10 yr Original...Needless to say I went back to the liquor store, and picked up 3 more since it was on sale for $30 per bottle...Great stuff!

Thanks again for the recommendation Ralfy!

  • I went to a Glenmorangie tasting tonight that was led by a gentleman named David Blackmore. He is a global ambassador for the brand. We sampled everything from the 10 year old to the Signet series, and I must say everything was absolutely delicious in their own special way. Regarding E-150, I had brought that up to Mr. Blackmore and he had expressed a very stern opposition to the addition of caramel coloring to whisky. He said 90% of all Glenmorangie bottling is E-150 free. I was surprised!

  • @highlander11339

but the big question is . . . why won't they state clearly on the label of the bottle "No Added Colour"

Unfortunately it is increasingly (though not always) the case that artificial colour is added because it's no longer coming from the casks, . . and neither is flavour or quality of maturation.

  • I wonder if you'd be willing to review Cragganmore at some point.

  • @neosoc

yes ! probably early next year.

  • Hello Ralfy,

I received a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet for christmas a few years back and I loved it. The chocolate taste hit a homerun for me. However it's way to expensive here in Sweden, so I've been looking for something similar that is a bit more affordable.

The range of available whisky in Sweden is quite limited so I've tried looking at sites as MasterofMalt and so on. But no luck.

Do you have anything you would recommend that is similar to the chocolate malt?

    Best regarda, Ludvig.

  • @nak85 ... hello Ludvig, Glenmo' is fairly individual as a Malt, but for chocolate moments try GlenDronach's, Dalmore's, and Benromach's ... good luck.

  • Brilliant Ralfy. Love all your vids. Just getting into the single malts. I'm in the penal colony, so short on good stores. So far I've purchased Glen Moray, Talisker (there's a bit of difference there!) and today, Glenlivet. I was interested in your comments about a sell off of a distillery and I am guessing you were speaking of Tamdhu? Have you ever reviewed this scotch? Also love to hear your thoughts on Oban. Good health

  • @troutstudio

    hello !

Oban 14yo is well worth looking into as is the recently bought-over Tamdhu which I consider underrated and a decent grainy/yeasty Malt, especially when older.

  • I really wish u'd try the La Santa and the other two despite the poncyness..

  • Ralfy, huge fan here! Question for ya, you said that you are continuing a section of "readily available' whiskys, for a beginning whisky drinker, where would you suggest I start?

  • @woopsme

go online to lfw.co.uk and 'search' ACE ... all results are good options there are plenty of varieties for taste and budget.

  • I rather enjoy the quinta ruban. It was expensive and I saved up for it and all that but I think it was well worth it. I do agree that the Original is quite delicious.

  • hello i have a bottle of 1977 glenmorangie the newer one that is really 26 years old not 21

i paid 120 for it was it a good buy?

    thanks allot in advance

  • @TheLoz1989

for drinking, I hope so, for Collecting, ... small earner over time ! ... good luck and beware 'collectable' offers.

  • @ralfystuff

also have 6 bottles of the glenfiddich snow phonix can you shed any light on how many were producied some say 800 some 60,000

    thanks for the advice

  • @TheLoz1989

lots were produced due to initial success of the quality ! .... a long-term minor collectable (Glenfiddich has never been a Big collectors item) ... but some decent drinking investment for over the next few years.

  • I bought this whisky today and I was suprised how light coloured it is.

  • ralfy, i just started watching a bunch of your videos, i happen to love glenmorangie 10, but i would like to know your opinion on glenlivet 18 year, and also dalmore 12 year...i noticed you dont have any reviews on either of them...also the blend whiskey johnnie walker swing...

  • @dfok5

so many Malts, so small a budget to buy, so I have to be fussy, and from my tasting experience Glenlivet is OK and Dalmore 12yo varies from batch to batch.

... it can be excellent, but not often.

  • Ralfy, I have a bottle of Glenmorangie Single Highland Rare Malt Scotch Whiskey (15 years). I find it to be fantastic. How would this compare (aside from saving me some coin)?

  • @cmelo82

similar but different. I prefere Original.

  • @ralfystuff I found the Original for 30 USD (about 20 British Pound). It's an absolute steal. I still slightly prefer its big brother but found the difference almost negligable espesciall for the extra cash.

I found your comment at 4:04 to be almost spot on. Great stuff mate!

  • @cmelo82 There is no such thing as Scotch Whiskey—only Scotch Whisky (there is no "e" in Scotch Whisky). :)

  • If you keep clicking at 0:15 ralfy looks like a trout having sex! Haha funny when I noticed it.

  • "Astar, Lasanta, Quinta Ruban and Nectar d'Or. - Do I hear the word 'poncy'? - Yeah, I do!"

So, if you're a man, just save Glenmorangie for the ponces and drink real whisky!

  • A relative and I recently did a taste testing of the new 10 year with the old. The new style still has a nice sweetness to it but we felt it lacks the body and complexity of the old style. The difference was noticeable. We promptly went back to the local liquor store and bought the remaining 3 bottles of the old style along with an old style Sherry cask and Burgundy cask!

  • @childofwonder

...a good and sound decision !

  • it's nice how you read how the whiskey is supposed to smell and taste like

    glenmorangie is pisswater

  • Bought myself a bottle of the Original. Tried it and I loved it. It is good!

Right now, trying a glass of Deanston 12 year old. Not bad, though it's not as nice as the Glenmorangie to me.

Oh, and many thanks for the proper pronunciation of the word.

BTW, if you've tried it, what are your opinions on the Arran 10 year old? I'm debating between that or the Glenlivet 15 y.o. French Oak Reserve. Or, I might forgo both and go with the Glenfiddich 15 y.o. Solara.

  • @Watcher3223

Depending on which version you get the 10yo can be excellent, otherwise it would be the Glrnfiddich 15yo for me !

  • will you please review the glenmorangie lasanta extra matured 12 years...Picked some up today and am curious about your thoughts.

  • @mrpicky510

... tried it, .... batches vary and it can be 'flat' so not likely to review it !

  • @ralfystuff

I got myself the Lasanta today. I actually think it's good, though it may be the bottle I've got may have come from a decent batch. However, compared to the 10 y/o, I think The Original may be a better buy IMO.

  • hey ralfy what about the knockando? didn't find a review from you right away. I found the 12yrs right across the border in france for 26 €.

is it on your future review list? i wonder about the 18 and 21yrs. so far i like the 12yrs a lot!

    greets from switzerland

  • @powernapamp

... no Knockando reviews pending at ralfy.com at the moment. .... and hello Switzerland.

  • what do you think of the quinta ruban?

  • @corismsyn

a 'standard' Port finish .... the early Glenmorangie Port-matured versions were better.

  • @ralfystuff Wish I could have tried some of those, I got a bottle of quinta for christmas and I love it. The color is unlike any I've seen from a whisky before (not that that's a huge selling point, but still).

  • I just tried this Scotch and I can say you described it perfectly !!! It has a wonderful nose and flavour. Very smooth ! I was thinking of a 15 yr old scotch but saw that I could get Glenmorangie with 2 glasses for $77 Cdn. I figured a 10 yr old scotch was a good place to start.

Really enjoy your videos , you offer a lot of good information . Keep Up the great work.

Have you tried Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Maple Wood Finish ?

    Merry Christmas !!!!

  • Ralfy I have noticed you do not have any reviews of The Dalmore. Is it that bad?

  • @MrShauntayers

    ... to me, over-processed and over-priced.

I have tasted very poor versions of Dalmore in Independent bottlings.

  • In the Baaack Grouunnddd :D Wie Geil :d

  • @SchillDie

    ... zwei Hunde & glücklich

  • i think the best glenmorangie is the sonnalta px?

  • Is there any point in saving unopened old version Glenmorangie 10 year bottles as collector's items or should I just give into temptation and drink it? A local liquor store is selling them for $35 a bottle and I had to pick one up.

  • @childofwonder

The skill is to buy two bottles and open one to enjoy whilst keeping the other for later either as a 'collectible' (which old-dtyle Glenmorangie will be) ... or to drink in a few years time.

  • Ralfy I have a chance to purchase the old version of the 10 year old (ie when it was called '10 year old' and not 'The Original'). Was it that much better in those days that its worth buying, even though I have already bought 'The Original' (and enjoyed it), or will it be much the same thing? Thanks.

  • @chrish12345

In my opinion, many of the older Glenmorangie 10yo's were as good, as if not better than the new 'Original'.

    ... I would take the chance, it's not a bank-buster price !

  • Hi Ralfy,

I am currently enjoying a dram of Quinta Ruban. Is there something I do not know? It is non chill-filtered, bottled at 46%, appears to be a craft presentation and I do not suspect E150.

The bottle has sat at about 50% full for about 12 months (at the back of my collection), and it has been sitting in the glass for about half an hour.

Although I am in no way an expert, it does not appear to be a second grade whisky masked by the port cask finish.

    I would buy it again.

  • Ralfy you mention the fancy wood finishes from Glanmorangie. I tasted the Lasanta and, as others have remarked, it has suffered bouts of serious sulphur contamination. Maybe it has been resolved now but for anyone looking to buy this, beware. Why anyone would want to mask the delicate taste of the 'Original' with any kind of finish seems daft in the first place.

  • Just got the Glenmorangie La Santa! And I have to say. One of the best drams I have tried yet! I like it even more then the highland park 12 year old I recently purchased. It has a rounded character to it. Beautiful sherry nose with complex things happening. As it opens up some fruits appear. On the palate its like you are having desert with wine and scotch and chocolate all beautify woven together. Props to Glenmorangie indeed. They really do know what they are doing. Cheers!

  • Comment removed

  • What do you prefer? Glenfiddich 12 y.o or the one above?

  • @prosecute

.... both ! .... but if pushed, the Glenmorangie has more complexity.

  • @ralfystuff Good to know! The Glenfiddich 12 year is about 15$ cheaper here.

  • I follow every review you have made, actually this is one of my fave Whiskies thanking you. It is the only one i'll buy immediately when the bottle will be finished!

  • I follow every review you have made, actually this is one of my fave Whiskies thanking you!!!

  • @Ichnos76

    ... thank you !

  • So would this be considered a 'Highland' whisky?

  • @ThunderAppeal

    ... yes !

  • Highlander fans should recognize Glenmorangie as Connor MacLeod's preferred single malt (which is not surprising considering the distillery's location).

Sorry but I just had to throw in this movie trivia when I saw this review.

  • Having this again for the first time in a couple of years, reminding me that it was this than got me into single malts in the first place. Seems less salty than I remember it, but definitelt floral on the nose but spicy and woody on the palate, quite strange I think to have woodiness and depth in a young malt as you said, Ralf.

  • Ralfy I have seen that Sainsburys have been clearing this whisky as well as Ardbeg 10 year old from their shelves. You have mentioned that the owners are planning a major hike in their prices for Ardbeg, maybe they want Glenmorangie to go the same way?

  • @chrish12345

.... quite possibly. Interesting that Glenfiddich is now the top selling Malt in Scotland with Glenmorangie down to third place !

  • the original glenmorangie is very good. but the glenmorangie the nectar d`or is amaaaazing.check it out recomended

  • I tasted a lot of sea salt with this one

  • Dear Ralfy,

Thanks for the review! Just bought a bottle yesterday here in Paris (36€).

I'm very happy with the 4th single malt I taste.

    Cheers!

PS: Don't know if you know, but Glenmorangie is owned by French group LVMH, that's why they put fancy names fancy bottlings... I did prefer to stick to the classic!

  • Just received a bottle for my b' day, thanks for the review and correct pronunciation.

  • Hey Ralfy. I am from India....a malt maniac of 36 years. You got a Superb review of Glenmorangie. In India scotch whiskeys come at double the prices. But i get my loot from a duty free shop by bribing a shop assistant ;) . (Sigh...the things one does to drink a good malt). I also wanted to ask you if you have tested Glen Drummond 12 yr. It is out of stock in India. But in my opinion the a good single malt . Thanks for the review. Glenmorangie is the best Scottish Malt i have tasted till now.

  • ... thanks for the comments, ... and, yes, Glenmorangie can be good consistent Malt, ... Glen Drummond I don'y know, but I do know that Indian people pay a lot for Whisky due to the Governments Import taxes, which is a shame for whisky fans having to pay so much for a wee dram.

  • lol glen drummond 12 eh? got a bottle right here and yes it is most handsome. want me to send you a bottle?

  • Great review, getting this tomorrow. Sounds nice.

  • Hey Ralfy,

I just picked up a bottle of the Glenmorangie Astar. Have you tried this one yet? It's bottled at 57.1%, so I'm trying to figure out if its a cask strength. I find it's amazingly smooth, althrough dry, for such a high alcohol content.

  • .... yup ! 57.1% is cask strength and .... yup ! more alcohol can mean more flavour, and this works with Astar.

  • @ralfystuff

My only problem with Astar and the main reason I've yet to try it has to be the price. For twenty to thirty dollars less I can pick up a bottle of Glenlivet Nadurra or Aberlour A'bunadh.

  • Hey Ralfy,

I want to buy a Glenmorangie. Should I take the Original (37,90€), the Nectar d'Or (49,90€) or the Lasanta (47.90€). Don't wonder about the price. there are two tumblers included ;-).

By the Way: Your Reviews are great, keep up the good work :-)

    Cheers.

  • having the tallest Still necks in Scotland, the spirit is complex and refined at an early age. For me the 10yo (origional) is the best 'version'. If they would bottle at 46%, non-chill filter, no caramel, and ensure a restrained cask influence from top-notch wood source, this would be truly classic.

  • Ralfy is the 18 year old Glenmorangie any good? I note its not that strong and I suppose may be another case of a good malt spoiled...

  • personally I wont be straying far from the 10 yo. !!!

  • for me, I do not like water in this one, I do not know why but some how it detracts from its taste for me. but its great whisky. btw I am tasting an american one so its a 750 ml and 43 %

    another great review ralfy cheers!

  • When should you add water to a whiskey?

  • .... just after you pour and first taste the Whisky, then a little drop by drop till you have your best flavour.

  • hey ralfy, I bought a box set here in the US and it came with a mini of a glenmorangie "The Lasanta" it says that it is Extra Aged and Sherry cask, i am only assuming it is a little older(since age isn't mentioned), and I wanted to know if you had tried this or even heard of it....

also, if you like this try the balvenie 15, single oak cask that has a very similar taste and nose to that of this, but is richer in color, nose, and taste, especially wit regards to the spice...

  • ... Balvenie 15 ? .... decent dram.

The Lasanta has older whiskies in it, but doesn't say too much so as they want you to go with the 'branding' in purchasing the bottle.

  • i also found a box set for the glenfiddich 15 and was wondering if you have had it, it is $40 for the bottle,a mini 18 yr, and a glass. I have heard far more good thing about the 15 than the 12....

  • ... 12 + 15 Glenfidz are the best option at a reasonable price.

The 18 is ...er .... variable.

  • i have heard that the older ones tend not to be worth it (unless you are rich, in that case it's all good)..... I have a friend that tried my Balvenie 15 and didn't want to fork out the cash needed for it, but would know of anytthing relatively close to it, but easier on the wallet.?? thanx man...

  • ... good value cask whisky ? ... Aberlour a'bunadh

  • @TheManInTheMasks Hi Man! I bought the same box set today and they are all 12 years old, except the Original which is 10. The ages were in the literature booklet inside the box. How did you like them?

  • I heard you say that this is 40% but mine came in at 43% I bought it here in the usa. I dont know what to make of it I just thought I would tell you.

  • .... were stuck with the 40% in the UK, so you lucky people get an extra 3% of quality.

    ... excellent.

  • hey ralfy, which is a better whiskey??

i was just comparing the original glenmorangie and the 12 year old sherry oak macallan and was hoping to get your view on it in terms of taste and nose differences...

  • ... Glen'M' or Mac'A' ?

... both have merits, both have shortcomings !

They are different of course, and my view is try both side by side in separate glasses, whilst reserving a third glass for Old Pulteney 12, which is more sophisticated than the first two !!! (in flavour and form)

    ... cheers.

  • .. that's the Theory, but Malts are not consistent, despite what Producers say, and the QR was 'younger/lesser/rawer' last time I tried it.

    Shame really.

  • I agree, having tried the old PortWood and currently sitting on a bottle of QR. It's pretty rough around the edges, and my old bottle of PW has an age statement stating 12 years, whereas my QR lacks such a statement. They did up the alcohol though, the QR is at 46% compared to 43% in the PW.

  • You'll be pleased to know, under your recommendation...I have tried this as my first single malt after years of blended whiskeys not containing scotch. I was almost going "right along side" you during this review, and I was thinking cola with raddish before you got the words coke and bubble gum out of your mouth. I think this was a great place for me to start my scotch investigations after looking for Pultany unsuccessfully, I was able to find this one at my purveyer. Thank you ralfy!

  • the Original Glenmorangie available here in the US is bottled at 43% alc/vol. does this result in any difference in quality (or otherwise) from the malt in your review, would you say?

  • 90% of the time .... higher alcoholic strength improves the 'delivery' of the whisky.

i.e. ... more alcohol, ... more flavour impact.

... just add a wee drop of water for better results.

    ... cheers.

  • the Original Glenmorangie available here in the US is bottled at 43% -- what is the difference in quality from the malt in your review, would you say?

  • ... sorry about the delay, the youtube system didn't flag up your message ! .... I would say your slightly stronger version is probably better ....

  • MARK FOR THIS MALT IS 87/100

  • I'm sure many have told you this, but you said "97 / 100" where as your sign said 87 / 100.

  • I thought their review was a little mean!

  • ..... yes, a bit, ... as Glenmorangie 10 yo is the best selling single Malt in Scotland, that speaks for itself !

  • .... oooh ! those Malt Maniacs don't take any prisoners......

I feel more generous with my marking as Glenmorangie is an Internationaly available, reasonably priced Malt which offers a beginner a return ! ... not too peaty, not too sweet, not too demanding.

The E150a is minimal, and it is more honest in its immature complexity than many 'better' whiskies.

  • Seemed a bit curmudgeonly to me, I must say.

  • Malt Maniacs say:

"Glenmorangie 10 (40%, OB - as experienced by Johannes van den Heuvel, Holland)

Nose: Sweetish. Soft & spicy. A little grainy. Pinch of salt or chloride. Rhubarb? Oily & nutty. Hops. Faint fruits. Heather honey.

Palate: Sweetish start. Sour & bitter - like Rhubarb? Hops in the finish - beer-like. Bourbony. Wood. Fresh oak? Feels flat.

Verdict: 74 points - Unfortunately, the palate is flat and superficial. Some maniacs like it better, but few recommend it.."

  • I started off drinking single malts a few years ago with this, but some on the internet are saying that it was sold recently and the quality is diminishing - as my first comment on one of your videos from which I've learned a huge amount, can I ask what you think about this?

  • ... yes, Glenmorangie and Ardbeg were both sold by the Scottish owners to LVMH last year and rapidly re-branded.

Quality didn't change that much, although some regard the 'perfume' style packaging as a bit un-scotch !!!

.... and thanks for watching my vlogs !

  • Thanks for the very quick reply, Ralf, and thanks for the information. I think Glenmorangie was a good place for me to start on single malts after deciding that most blends were too harsh for my palate.

  • ... compared to the 10yo, signet isn't a huge leap in calibre. ('cos the 10's so excellent!)

  • Hi Ralphy, I'm presuming your rating for this review is as you displayed it at 87, but you did say 97, can you confirm?

  • .... 87

    not 97

  • Glenmorangie 10yo in Scotland at the moment ? = £20-26

.... so wait till you get to Scotland before buying.

The best places to buy are Supermarkets for regularl whiskies, and for more specialised Malts, Royal Mile Whiskies in Edinburgh and Loch Fyne Whiskies in Inverary.

The most expensive place to buy Whisky is at Distilleries.

I hope the rain stays off for your visit..........

  • me and my mates are going on a roadtrip in scotland this summer and I'm really looking forward to it. But what I'd like to know is what a bottle like this costs in scotland. Down here (the netherlands) we pay around 35 euros for it, but I'm curious how many pounds you have to put down in scotland. The reason I ask is that we are students who have to watch our spendings a little ;) and perhaps it is better to buy it over here before we go. Supporting scottish fine products anyhow :)

  • ... both have their merits, ... I would choose the 'morangie for it's considerable complexity.

  • would you recommend this over a macallan 12?

  • Great review, great whiskey ;)

  • Glenmorangie is a gift from G-d.

  • I have to say I'm not a fan of Glenmo at all but I enjoyed the review immensely.
