Yes, I fully agree with the atheist assertion that Catholicism is the only true religion. What I don't agree with is that of atheists asserting there should be an atheist theocracy for the United States.

Something very to what you describe happened. Mother Teresa was deeply revered, and as it happens, personal writings of hers found after her death DID reveal her to be an atheist, or if not, at least a very strong doubter.

I do believe that there are many who would probably celebrate John Paul II's doubt as a virtue, but I think that for the many who believe that the pope is infallible this would be an earth shattering revelation and a great idea to meditate on.
