I read that an US soldier had a great panic moment in 1945 when thought it could be fun to drive on the banked part driving his jeep willie flat out. The only problem was that during war a wooden staircase was build in the middle or the banking, and he had to brake in the last moment...
I believe Avus was largely made up of a couple of strips of public road with an insane banked section at one end made of tiny bricks. Racing went on there until the mid 60s.
Elsewhere on Youtube is a clip of Hans Hermann's famous flip at Avus in '59 when he was thrown from his car and slid along the track watching his car a few yards ahead of him demolish itself..

I knew that the AVUS was used a racetrack, but I just found out today that it actually hosted a Foruma 1 race in the past.

Yes, it was only one F1 race and one pre-war European Grand Prix Championship race, maybe another non championship race too.
