Had Gorbachev's Union Treaty worked and the coup had never existed, then there would still be a Soviet Union. By 1999, he was forced to resign due to his stupidity and feeling authoritarianist.

yeah. I really agree, Gorbachev destroyed the USSR. But, sorry to say it, I only liked the USSR for its military, political arrangment, and obedience and allegiance to the October Revolution and Lenin only.

@Yankees2743 was Gorbachev a real idiot? He tried to save socialism from its stagnation and demise under Brezhnev/Chernenko. I think he intended well but failed due to radicals such as Yeltsin. So you argument is only partially true, in my opinion at least.

@Yankees2743 Many people (communists) dislike gorbatchev because of his perestroika and glasnost. I think different. If those reforms were implanted on the first days of the CCCP, it would have worked and the Soviet Union would exist to these days as a very strong, democratic communist state

Gorbachev and Yeltsin rejected Lenin's legacy, violated socialist legal system and turned USSR into hell. Gorbachev has no shame when saying about communism with Western media. If USSR had followed Lenin's ideas such as New Economic Policy (Novaya Ekonomicheskaya Politika), they would have been successfully got out of the crisis and continued to develop. For example, Gorbachev reformed the political system before reforming the economy. That actions violated Marxism-Leninism.

American brinkmanship, Reaganomics, and their own internal economics caused by their out of control economy forced them to break with their current system and give democracy a chance.

Despite what the soviets did to her! these communists killed more Russians than any foreign aggressor ever did, and broke up the empire which the Czars built. It is good that they are gone. As you can see, they were old and obsolete.
The new Russia with Putin and Medvedev will bring Russia back to what it was. But times ahead will be difficult as there are enemies on all the borders.

I visited the USSR in 1985 and was shocked at the low standard of living of the people...it really brought home the cost that stupid government paid in its futile effort to keep up with the USA..the whole idea that a communist system could compete with the most powerful and advanced system of the USA---the greatest the world has ever seen---was simply absurd.

look at the Politburo looking down on their peasants... communism is such a nice theory, it really is, but it forgets two extremely important element: human nature and reality. the politburo lied to the people, and moreover they lied to each other to cover their asses, this is what happens when you leave power to so few elitists, who actually claimed NOT to be elitists, lol. The Soviet Union failed 40 years before it collapsed, it just hadn't realized it yet.
