In high school, so many nights, I used to lay awake in my bed listening to this song with my headphones on (I had borrowed my dad's vinyl). It took me away from my adolescent's trouble, took me back to the river, back where I originally came from. This track means so much to me. Thank you for uploading it.
The "prologue " to this song reminds me a lot of my father and me when I was 18. I had the long hair, and we argued a lot, and he would make those comments about the army being good for me, but most importantly I never could explain where I was going with my life. But as much as we argued I always knew that my father loved his son, he just never knew who his son was. The song the 'River' is about lost dreams, but the song itself is a river of hope. We go back to it and we can feel it again.
this is simply amazing, especially the last 3 minutes ... love his voice singing "uuuh" and the piano part is awesome as well as the harmonica part at the very end ... can't find enough words to describe this ... :)
tThis song was recorded at the Los Angeles Coliseum on the 30/9/1985. This was one of the last shows palyed on the Born In The U.S.A Tour and probably the greatest performances springsteen & the E street band have ever given. Checkout the album Bruce Springsteen & the E Street band Live 1975-1985 where this song was taken from
Hi! Hoow are you? My name is Christian and i write you because I want know that is all that Bruce said before that starts the song The River, for what little I can understand some words seem to be very emotional.
This is one of my all time favourite songs! I don't know why, but it touches me deep down inside. Everytime I listen to it it almost brings tears to my eyes. It's one of only a few songs that - if you're willing to let it happen - has the power to take you by the hand and really sends you there, down to the river. You can see it's story through your own eyes and feel it with your heart. That's the magic of a great, story telling song...
this version of this song on this album song number one on disc 3 is the only song ive ever heard that gives me goosebumps every time that harmonica kicks in right after the speech. everytime, no matter what volume im playing it at or what im doing or where im listening to it. its just a magical piece of musical history that will never be reproduced on any level by anyone.
This the best version of this song, in my opinion. He talks humanely. I also saw the video of his performing in Copenhagen roadside. Nice guy, it seems.
I've listened to this version of this song at least a thousand times and I still can't get past "I just act like I don't remember and Mary acts like she don't care" without bawling. True confession. Thank you, Bruce. I just wish you hadn't shrunk from this gigantic raw nerve into the little political puppet you are now. Please come back.
I didn't bother watching this video because it started with a commercial.

9:20 to the end of this amazing song may be the most moving non-lyrical piece of music I have ever heard.
