There isn't any. The police chief didn't fully engage his light bar so only the video recorded. There is an audio recording posted on youtube by statter911.
I'm a career firefighter and couldn't be more impressed with those guys. The one who went in by himself for initial attack/rescue impressed me the most. It sure beats those jackasses who walk around with the "I walk where the devil dances" T shirts and don't do shit. I know two in two out wasn't followed and we are all understaffed, but I would hoped that myself or other department members would perform as well as they did. A job very, very well done!
@todd9052 Got a question, during search and rescue, is it true that venting the roof often occurs first for the smoke to rise up and that no appreciable amount of water is rushed in due to the heat of superheated steam? thanks
@R5H4D0W Ventilation helps the search teams visibility and will also relieve the heat off of the engine crew inside. We try to coordinate between fire attack and ventilation so that the minute the roof is opened up (or window) the attack crew can make the knockdown.
FireFighter for 20 + years both volunteer and paid, I must say! you Mother Fu@&$ rock. Your pace and decisive action are to be commended. I know the NFPA quoter's will go crazy with this, and you can see their type of firefighting all over youtube lots of commanders, trucks loaded with guys, brand new equipment and nobody doing shit. I can go on and on, but I will stop here. Again great job.
Nonetheless, great job by these guys, who show that even small town firefighters are just as highly trained, well experienced, determined ,capable, brave, quick thinking, and professional as the boys on the big city FDs in Cleveland,NYC ,LA Akron,Miami,Chicago, etc....stay safe guys and great job.
No real firefighter will stand outside of a burning structure with people trapped if he thinks he can save them, protocols and NFPA be damned. If this story ended differently,or if these guys werent half the firemen they are, legal issues would abound, likely from the firefighter families.Staffing is a serious prblem for all FDs ,and the only negative thing about this video is Im sure scumbag politicians will try to use this to justify staff cuts or lower minimum levels to already bare staffed FDs.
All too often, this scenario does not end well . 2 man engine with one guy going in by himself w.o a hose.Today, these guys did an excellent job.Tomorrow,or a week from now,you wont hear about the same scenario ending differently with dead occupants and dead/hurt firemen.A trained fireman can hear the serious lack of staffing notonly in this department, but their neighbors as well.Even if they only staff 2,dont they have a callout or volunteer system to supplement the on duty crew?
@CyanoticFuture The chief says they do. But they all work full time jobs and could not get away. These brothers did what they had to do with what they had. Risk alot to save alot. It was worth going in alone.
@Emsworker68 Thats good they at least try to supplement with on call guys, but yea, people who arent full time on this FD have full or part tme jobs elsewhere.Maybe this town council should consider upping the staff to 3,2 guys arent even enough to work a full arrest or major trauma adequately on the squad.
@CyanoticFuture True but in these times FD are seen as expensive and something cash strapped municipalities can cut to save money. I am unsure of what it works in this town but there should be a law that excuses workers from work if a call comes in. That would allow more to respond.
@Emsworker68 These is a law that excuses people from work if they are on call for a volunteer FD,at least in Ohio there is.That doesnt help if you work an hour away though. And municipalities are no different than the rest of the country, strapped because of pork barrel spendingand refusal to cut luxuries before vital services. You know how much cas a town like Magodore rakes in off tickets alone...probably enough to hire an entire new department a month...just towaste it.
So I am presuming that the video is coming from a PD car and not the fire department? During the beginning of the video.....when your looking for a house number and you see a bunch of smoke down the street, in police school that would have been called "a clue".
Good job to the firefighters in working with what they had. If this is a paid FD, shame on the City of Mogadore for putting those guys in that situation.
