This is good but not a patch on Janine Jansen's performance recorded with the Mahler Orchestra. She really brings every note to life in a way no one else has managed with this piece.
Out of the huts of history's shame I rise Up from a past rooted in pain I rise I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise.
such clean playing, and then before you know it he's also the ultimate romantic , really gets me every time with Milstein. He gets even better and more lyrical as he goes along, the sound becomes ever warmer...not just blasting at the same level all the time. He can be so cool and at the same time so personal.
Thank you, David, for this wonderful version. Mr Milstein's playing was always so faultlessly clean and so perfectly within the bounds of good taste. This concerto seems to suffer a lot of abuse by way of exaggerated expression, but with Milstein every phrase is just what the composition requires, no more and no less. So, thank you again. Kevin
Wonderful archiving. Thanks so much.

IsaacSterne Tchaikovsky violin concerto
