@annabellejonesify Yep, in fact he first started off in a tag team called the Bladerunners with the guy who'd eventually be the Ultimate Warrior in the UWF!!
UWF was nice back in the day. ECW took some UWF ideas and WWF took some of the UWF stars (Ted Dibase, Hacksaw Jim Duggan). WCW ended up with Sting and that worked out well for them since they gave him a big push. Ultimate Warrior ended up being the main eventer for about a year in 1988-1989 in WWF. I always think th Fantastics vs Midnight Express or even the Sheepherders was one of the best rivalries in tag team history.
@RunDCM Sheepherders also spent time in the Southwestern Territory before UWF with success then left UWF for WWF. In the WWF, they had some popularity but were midliners at best. I'm 90% sure they never wore the WWF straps.
so Missy went from Tatum to Gilbert to anybody that asked...kinda like Debra mcmichael going from Mongo to Jarrett to Austin do all these chicks just look to trade up?
@spenben She had already been through Jake the Snake and Road Warrior Hawk before Tatum when they were in Atlanta. In her book, she talks about blowing Tommy Rich at her first GCW show when she was a teen too.
kinda funny there were two UWF, this one which ended up being bought out by the NWA/WCW and UWF in Japan which showcased a shootwrestling style and featured MMA legend Kazushi SAkuraba. Great stuff in both
I'm pretty sure the UWF was in financial trouble, but it was bought out by the NWA. Warrior actually left before then. Sting was a singles wrestler for a lil while before the NWA picked him up.
@panther2552 Yeah, Warrior left around June 86. Sting was mostly teamed with Eddie Gilbert, then Rick Steiner with Gilbert as manager until mid-87 when he went babyface and got a singles push. JCP bought out Watts in April 87.
wow i was 10yrs old when i seen this on tv, i remember tommy rodgers and bobby fulton. just like ricky morton and robert gibson aka the rock & roll express. talk bout back in the day WOW, tyvm, aweme vid.
I remember back in the day when I watched this wrestling Missy Hyatt did get hit by that gucci purse and Dark Journy hit her with it!! I wish someone would put more video's of Missy and Journey catfights!! those were the Diva's!!!
I miss Dewey, He was my GOOD Friend, I am really Honoured to have had Dewey as my Firend. I will miss seeing and talking to him on the phone. I know Dewey is with God Now. I miss You, Dewey, R.I.P.
I didn't even know he had passed. You know I think Missing Link was probably one of the wrestlers I loved most as a kid and he may have been the one to make me a wrestling fan , even though he scared the crap out of me. But he had one of the greatest gimmicks I had ever seen. I think he could have easily been bigger than hogan, When "Bang your head" started to play I totally marked out and still do.
todays wrestling is have some fucktard stand at the entrance way, give him some god-aweful nu-metal/emo or even worse, shit-hop music entrance theme.
todays wrestling is not elite/advanced in anyway. none of them can do a promo or creare heat. there are no decent storylines. we were spoiled as uwf/nwa/wccw fans. we know what's good and what stinks.

thought i'd remind you what a twat you are, after reading your article Spiritual Niggers: Islam and the West...what a fucking liar you are after promoting islam and tearing the christian west to pieces you then go and say " I was raised never to use the "N" word" you twat...you've used that insult all over youtube...you phoney !
yep, todays wrestling doesn't even bother to develop a charactor or develop proper mic work. furthermore the storylines and angles of today are a joke. where are the eddie gilberts of todays wrestling? gilbert brought in so many great wrestlers. at any moment he could have a new guy come in through his stable to wreck havoc. where is that in wrestling today? todays wrestling promotions are a joke. they don't make the effort to please fans.
Why did JR's voice so much different now than it was then? Was it because of his bells palsy? He is still the best going today but I think he was at his best years ago when him and Jesse Ventura would do WCW shows together.
Probably the bells palsy as well as years of having to shill Vince's brand of "Sports Entertainment" has left him bored and jaded. "STONE COLD! STONE COLD! FRUITY, FRUITY, SKITTLES!"
damn...sting before the 'roids and missy hyatt before the boob job, nose job, facelift, tummy tuck, liposuction...oh dammit~~this will take all day!!!!
Top Notch!! JR was at the top of his game at this time and the heat at those Oklahoma City/Tulsa (and Monroe, LA before it) was scorching. The Oklahoma tapings of the UWF always impressed me so much because it was pretty sizable crowds, too, rather than a little gym or studio like most tapings of the time, but they were red hot. WWF taped in front of big crowds, but they had to use "canned heat" for their shows.
It's when use the sound of a full and lively arena that off of a tape and add it to or dub it over the audio from the building where they taped the show. It's to make it sound more exciting but that fake heat makes it seem worse to me. You hear a wild crowd but see the people looking bored. That Tulsa crowd wasn't even close to bored!
great match... great ending... and a rare match called by Ted DiBiasi....

UWF was doing pretty good for awhile, even outdoing the AWA. I guess it suffered the same feat as ECW. Demand was greater than supply
heavymetalsoldier 1 year ago
@heavymetalsoldier UWF was WAY more successful than ECW. It was a different era. ECW's best crowds would have been dissapointments for UWF.

Great six man tag. Fantastics and Missing Link made a great team and made Tatum, Gilbert and Sting look rather stupid.

oh i thought i remember reading that's how Sting came over to the NWA, in a company buyout. but cool, learn something new every day :)
panther2552 2 years ago
@panther2552 Sting went to NWA and Warrior went to the WWF, so it might not had been a buyout rather than a simple folding.
