  • Your layout is inspirational. And it reassures me that after years of acquiring the trains and track (mostly Gargraves S gauge, but I just might switch back to Gilbert-style track) that copying the Sibley display layout isn't such a crazy idea after all. All I need is to find me a 484 Northern and an Union Pacific Pony Express and I'll be good to go. Thanks.

  • Aaron, I maintain a website devoted to the classic American Flyer display layouts. I noticed the similarity of your track plan to a 1949 layout at the FAO Schwarz toy store in New York and also one displayed at Sibley's department store in Rochester New York. Were you were aware of these layouts when you designed your layout. Is it a restoration or recreation of an original department store layout? Please contact me at flyerdisplays@att.net. Dale Smith

  • @dfsmith26 Yes, Actually I built my layout with the Sibley's layout in mindl.

  • that is a nice im working on getting a bigger place thats at lease a 3 or 4 bed rooms so my two kids have there own rooms then i plan to build a layout i collect prewar & postwar o gauge lionel & my kids have there modern era of lionel set but i want a twon like layout alittle of everything here and there but i do like the freight yard layouts still alot to see going on in those layout like yours if the room is there i would like to have a prewar or remake of the #840 lionel power house

  • I like the design of your layout! Looks like you made excellent use of your available space. Some nice locomotives you got there. Pretty good camerawork, too!

  • Nice layout!!!! How big is it?

  • @Reading290 The Layout is 7 x 16 just like the Sibley's Layout. Now I wish it was bigger. I really need to expand.

  • This is great action, everywhere and I love the scenery. I agree this is best AF video that I have seen and I've looked at many.

  • Awesome Layout. How big is the layout?

  • I agree that this is the best AF on the tube!!!!!! Much thanks for posting it. You really made it interesting--a dream come true for ANY aged child....like me.....

  • Best AF "S" operation i have ever seen, and all pure Gilbert. Especially loved the double headed Atlantics.

  • Great Layout!

  • Really nice/

  • This is one of the finest train videos on YouTube! I thoroughly enjoy watching it two or three times every week! Great job.

  • To get them to run Parallel on a 1/4 turn, Inside track is 3 sections of old flyer, 2nd is 2 old and 1 wide radus between them, 3rd is 2 wide and 1 old between them, Outer 4th track is 3 sections of wide radus. Hope this helps, Aaron.

  • Aaron,

Thanks for the answer regarding the 1/4 turns, spot on and helps me in how to to it myself.

    Regards,

    Neil

  • Most of the curves are standard flyer track with the exception of the wide radius sections that were made by K-line, Now Lionel make them. You can buy the Wide Radius out of the Lionel catalog. Another company makes the Road bed for them or you can custom cut and make regular curved road bed work in a pinch.

  • Hi, can you tell me what you did to get the curved tracks to run parallel?

Also what radius are you using on them as well.

    Regards.
