Australians have nothing but respect for the Turkish people. We fought as enemies and finished the war in a spirit of mutual respect. We even errected a statue of Kemal Attaturk as a symbol of respect and mutual friendship into the future.
Well the fact is that it did not fall. The fact is that things have happened the way they have- probably for a reason.
So in this imperfect world of ours its best if we do try to get along.
Your country and mine have respect for oneanother because of What DID happen. You should honour that as you and my ancestors did almost 100 years ago.
Those Hero's that shed there blood and lost their lives, you are now lying in the soil of a friendly country therefore rest in peace. There is no diffrence between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours you the mothers who sent their sons from far away lands, wipe your tears, your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace after having lost their lives they have become our sons, the sons of Turks aswell.
An Australian explained me why Gallipoli and Turkey are so important for Australia: Here it is..
""We came to Gallipoli, Turkey as British, but here we learned how to be nation and fight for your own independence from Turks, and we left Turkey as Australians""

I love ANZAC day, makes New Zealand and Australia as one. Puts all the silly jokes away and shows how much we respect each other as brothers.
