as an ex-student of lovano i can only say. This is what i tell my students to transcribe, and man, tre're loving every bit of what these have to teach us.
YOUTUBE ARGUMENT BLAH BLAH BLAH TROLL BLAH TROLLLLLLLLLLL. -.- Lolololol, oh people are lame sometimes but music NO MATTER WHAT KIND OR WHO IS PLAYING IT is good music to somebody so therefore we have no room to judge it! Music is for happiness not arguments?
@boxing10005:55 is a beautifully enigmatic supporting line that resolves very melodically. Potter merely lets the piano player finish his statement. It would have made no sense if he had forced his way over it. This for me, is a proof of great musicianship.
@vpsaxman Dude, the piano player was comping..no time to make a statement..what he did there was simply tasteless and had nothing to do with the tune called bye bye blackbird. Why play standards the greatest music ever, when you disfigure the compositions so repulsively?Just play Potter or Lovano tunes, they WERE written to sound like that. But you are entitled to your opinion...
@boxing1000 First, comping is a statement in itself. Second , have you ever listened to Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Herbie Hancock or even Wes Montgomery "comping". You've never heard them make "statements" between the guy taking a ride? I love what's been done with those standards in the past but it's time to move on. Most of those "standards" were cheesy tunes that got "disfigured" in the first place you know. But it's not worth arguing, it's more a matter of taste than anything I suppose.
Thanks Alex, these vids kick ass. I love how much Chris and Joe get into each others playing. Joe gets so into it he kinda looks a bit like a modern day T. Monk at one point in Chris's solo. Unreal, man. Wish I was there

Does Lovano even listen to the chords or understand the style? Bye Bye Blackbird is not a hard bob song. It is a melodic song played in a melodic style unless you are Lovano, who takes the beauty of the melody and kills it and makes it sound like every other POS song he has ever played. Potter on the other hand, though he is playing outside, I can still hear what song he is playing.
9:05-9:20 Damnnnn..... I love how Chris plays with the time.

It makes me sad that so many people don't quite understand this style of music... Maybe in the future....

@clruwe Well,if you like good sounding lines and sense of melody you sure will never understand this...

And the interaction between Chris and Roy was fantastic on this tune.

Lovano was sounding so great on this concert. I always love Chris, but Joe really had something particularly special happening that night.

Beautiful music. Man, I love how both Joe and Chris sound like they're reaching for something fresh each time they play the horn. Amazing stuff.
