my favorite version of amaszing grace is the one they sing in the church while they are getting married - it is better than any other version it is so beautiful
Okay, trailer is a little misleading. Film not entirely about the song, or Newton's time writing it. However, the story, action, and style of the drama kind of summarizes the power and magnimity of the song. Plus, Wilberforce and allies were making the same arguments, in a sense, as the song. They finally got a major advantage with a bit of trickery, but it was well worth the effort, because it hugely turned the tables on the slave trade in Britain.
Very smartly crafted film, strong performances, strong writing, sharp cinematography, and an uplifting main score. Gruffudd honors his role with a graceful, intelligent performance, and he has equal support from Rufus Sewell, Michael Gambon, Ciaran Hands, Romola Garia, and the masterful Albert Finney. Benedict Cumberbatch is particularly smart as Wilberforce friend and ally, William Pitt the Younger, who followed his father as Prime Minister of England.
Toby Jones also had a role as the repulsive but finally human Duke of Clarence, and Youssou N'Dour as Olaudah Equiano, the former slave who worked in the abolition movement. William Pitt the Younger was the youngest PM ever, at 24 years of age. Nicholas Farrell and Sylvestre LeTouzel also had small roles as Wilberforce's cousin & cousin-in-law. Also notable were Jeremy Swift as Richard the Butler and Stephen Campbell Moore as James Stephen. They were all so good!!! :)

The final moment, with the military band playing Amazing Grace is a beautiful punctuation to this heartfelt biopic.
