  • wow..

  • Fluffy floater. Breathe deeply now...

  • incredible

  • i swear this is the same sounds i was getting from a softsynth i had called reFX vanguard..

it sounds like some of the patches out of the factory soundbank, unaltered.. pretty cool.

  • Dats a cool bong!

  • Geir, je bent een genie...

  • This is one of my all time favorite ambient albums. Pure genius.

  • weird but great to study too or calm down if ur stressed out

  • Serendipity is the best thing. I heard 'Fading Dream' on Geir's 'Bleep' album "To The North Pole By Submarine" about 20yrs ago. It was love at first listen. Actually met Geir last weekend at a gallery in Tromsø.

  • Nice pic, is it Erebus ?

  • addictively beautiful

  • Somebody should make a 10 hours version of this song! =)

  • ejactculating penis

  • @CoolColJ Spelling fail.

  • beutifull, perfect, timeless. seminal album from my journey through IDM and ambient electronica.

  • Twin peaks and big gay!!!

  • This "music"... it's really important. Please don't lose it people.

  • I'm usually not much for ambiance music, but this is the shit.

    donkere prachtige desolate muziek thanks

  • @dinkeldal Helemaal eens!!! Beste ambient artiest ever!

  • This album is so good to trip to. I like to put the Transformers original cartoon movie on the background too.

  • pure earsex!!!!

  • Love your work Sir.

  • Substrata is by far the greatest ambient album ever composed. I mean there are other great ambient albums out there but Biospheres Substrata is the greatest of them all. No doubt in my mind.

  • @Derek70214 that is fairy true :)

  • I love the Twin Peaks reference in this song: "The things I tell you, will not be wrong". Both this and Hyberborea contain Twin Peaks references. :)

  • One of the best electronica's album in this biosphere !!!

  • One of the best electronica's album in this biosphere !!!

  • this Album (Music) can heal Trauma

  • yeah

  • Who the fuck disliked this?!!?

  • Nevermind, just found out.

Love this track though, it really takes you places.

  • 2:50

    Sorry to wake you....

Where is this from? When it came on, well, it was incredible to say the least.

  • This track is in Biosphere's top twenty all time best.

  • "Sorry to wake you...I forgot to tell you something. The things I tell you will not be wrong."

  • beautiful to listen to, just so refreshing

  • simply perfect.

  • Sorry to wake you..

  • @rayyf69 how could you ask such a question? every sound contributes something to the piece. that specific part you're referring to does a lot in terms of establishing a rhythm section...

  • @tenaciousphish Sounds like a morning alarm clock going off. Not very pleasant, if rhythm must be established in some fashion why use something that sounds like a broken klaxon.

  • ...........long periods of time..............

  • where is the photo for this taken? and what is it exactly? I've seen this in other places but can't place it.

  • trip!

  • what's this? I don't understand... Is this a band or something?? It's a bit frightening!

  • @ArgNick Call it "ambient electronic", with a touch of experimental noodling. Biosphere is a music project by Norwegian composer Geir Jenssen; who has a lot of work out there under the "Biosphere" moniker.

  • sorry to wake you. i forgot to tell you something. the things i tell you. will not be wrong

  • Agh the voice scared the shit outta me for some reason... wasnt expecting it haha. But awesome music btw:D

  • The vocals come from a later episode of 'Twin Peaks' second series. The giant in Agent Cooper's visions speaks the words. A timeless track I'll always be fond of.

  • Mr. Geir Jenssen and his wonderful machines; thank you!

  • master piece

  • Wonderful it makes me really feel relaxing

  • Woah, while listening to this, I thought I saw that picture moving. Trippy...great music, by the way! Substrata will always be my favorite ambient album...

  • beautiful stuff - haven't heard this in years.

  • indrukwekkend en mooi

  • try Loscil

  • I will mark this day (Nov 20) on my calendar as the day I discovered Geir Jenssen / Biosphere, through a serendipitous sequence of connections. Perhaps it was the deep meditation yesterday that led to this portal. I am grateful and hopeful.

    Thanks, naassuu for posting this.

  • @rr7firefly Useful.

  • this album changed all my thoughts about our life! I always wanted to thank Geir Jenssen for this universal masterpiece of music! Hopefully sometime you´ll read that Geir!!

Thank you and all the best for your entire life!!

  • daang. obviously i should look into biosphere!

  • @Cavalerra01 Geir Jenssen has changed my life too, being my first ambient artist Ive ever heard besides maybe Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno. This album opened a whole new door for me. I listen to all sorts of ambient music now, and this music has become a part of my every day life, I learned the mechanics and all that goes into composing such music and its simply, unequivocally, astonishing. Guiding my thoughts and my outlook on life. Finding a meaning in everything I do is now routine. Superb!

  • @Cavalerra01 hmm very similar feelings i have.....listening to that teleports me to different dimensions every time....the whole world he created.thanks geir

  • I have been listening to this album for more then ten years now and I will never....repeat NEVER get tired of one single second of this album. This is music to evolve to folks.

  • Biosphere's SUBSTRATA is unbelievable.

i can hear it ever and ever(best on headphones)

i think Geir Jensen is a genius.

  • New Age?

    Not with such old world...

Make your mind grow in other places than yourself

  • substrata is sick, i wouldn't even call it ambient music cauz its too interesting for that.

  • Substrata has got to be one of the best ambient albums ever. Cold, remote, inscrutable. If the Northern Lights were turned into music, they'd sound like this album.

  • god this music is astonishing. I feel like I am in the most remote part of the world, in some overcast yet beautiful land, like northern europe or greenland.

  • @LOLDISNEYLAND England is in northern Europe it has alot of city's

  • @YEARCITY What is your point? England is a beautiful country of the UK. I would like to visit one day.

  • @LOLDISNEYLAND i would too

  • @LOLDISNEYLAND kinda weird to read that and then your username...

  • @LOLDISNEYLAND

It´s an honour to read this as an inuit from Greenland. And you´re right about what you said. My brother and I, we used to listen to this all day long during the winter back then. Sounds good with the winter wonder land.

  • This for me is the highest point of his creations, and in ambient terms the highest point ever reached by any producer.

  • i remember that part in twin peaks. mixes into the music so amazingly here.

my dad bought this album in '97 when i was ten years old, it's had a lasting effect on me and along with aphex's saw 85-92 and several others is one of the only albums i can ALWAYS come back to and never be sick of. stargaze

  • This tune is great, so very trance.

  • substrata is an absolute art work!!! What a Genius!!!

  • Am I the only one who doesn't get an arctic vibe from Biosphere? Personally I picture playing Myst.

  • Geir Jensen if from the northern part of Norway, Tromsø to be specific.

    That's the root cause :D

    I grew up at 70'40'N

  • NoSoup: Yea, you're the only one...sorry!

  • There is one theme that runs through his music, and that is the cold landscape that is his home.

  • love the Riven soundtrack..quality!

  • His music uses so many samples from his environment, either you haven't listened to much Biosphere, or you have never lived in a cold country.

  • Brrrrrrrrr ice ice cold. Love it so much!!

  • the best moment on the best album from the best artist ambient has ever seen

  • Health warning: Don't buy Biosphere albums if you're suicidal :)

Many thanks to those who post "Biosphere" songs on "YouTube" and all those who provide info on voice samples in those songs, much appreciated !

  • Substrata 2 is my favourite album from biosphere.

i heard it ever and ever(best over headphones)and drift far away!

    it's unbelievable great!!!

  • thanks mk2007al, I always wondered where that excerpt came from...

  • This is an excerpt from TWIN PEAKS in it, "the Things i tell you will not be wrong" is the dialogue between the Giant and Cooper when Cooper mets him the first time while beeing shot (the first ).

After Cooper is shot, he is left lying in the room. In his injured and only partially lucid state, Cooper experiences a vision in which a Giant appears to him.

  • which chapter? pls

  • According to IMdb its Series 2,1st episode

    "Twin Peaks: (#2.1)" (1990)

[the Giant appears before Cooper again who's asleep]

The Giant: Sorry to wake you.

    Dale Cooper: I wasn't dreaming.

The Giant: I forgot to tell you something.

Dale Cooper: You were right about the smiling bag.

The Giant: The things I tell you will not be wrong.

Its the second dialgue when Cooper awakes from a dream. Therefore it must be 2nd season.

    Enjoy

  • what's that thing on the picture?

a large smoking pipe of ice?!?

  • maybe it's some sort of artic geiser, strange right? Then again Biosphere is strange

  • spark a blunt, chill

  • hm..sehr gut! itslike..hemi sync... forever!

    freedom!

  • This is what i call electronic ambient art in perfection.

  • It puts you in a certain place.. Substrata is unike.

  • Superb composition!

  • Excellent, like all his other music.
