Serendipity is the best thing. I heard 'Fading Dream' on Geir's 'Bleep' album "To The North Pole By Submarine" about 20yrs ago. It was love at first listen. Actually met Geir last weekend at a gallery in Tromsø.
Substrata is by far the greatest ambient album ever composed. I mean there are other great ambient albums out there but Biospheres Substrata is the greatest of them all. No doubt in my mind.
@rayyf69 how could you ask such a question? every sound contributes something to the piece. that specific part you're referring to does a lot in terms of establishing a rhythm section...
@tenaciousphish Sounds like a morning alarm clock going off. Not very pleasant, if rhythm must be established in some fashion why use something that sounds like a broken klaxon.
@ArgNick Call it "ambient electronic", with a touch of experimental noodling. Biosphere is a music project by Norwegian composer Geir Jenssen; who has a lot of work out there under the "Biosphere" moniker.
The vocals come from a later episode of 'Twin Peaks' second series. The giant in Agent Cooper's visions speaks the words. A timeless track I'll always be fond of.
Woah, while listening to this, I thought I saw that picture moving. Trippy...great music, by the way! Substrata will always be my favorite ambient album...
I will mark this day (Nov 20) on my calendar as the day I discovered Geir Jenssen / Biosphere, through a serendipitous sequence of connections. Perhaps it was the deep meditation yesterday that led to this portal. I am grateful and hopeful.
this album changed all my thoughts about our life! I always wanted to thank Geir Jenssen for this universal masterpiece of music! Hopefully sometime you´ll read that Geir!!
@Cavalerra01 Geir Jenssen has changed my life too, being my first ambient artist Ive ever heard besides maybe Tangerine Dream and Brian Eno. This album opened a whole new door for me. I listen to all sorts of ambient music now, and this music has become a part of my every day life, I learned the mechanics and all that goes into composing such music and its simply, unequivocally, astonishing. Guiding my thoughts and my outlook on life. Finding a meaning in everything I do is now routine. Superb!
@Cavalerra01 hmm very similar feelings i have.....listening to that teleports me to different dimensions every time....the whole world he created.thanks geir
I have been listening to this album for more then ten years now and I will never....repeat NEVER get tired of one single second of this album. This is music to evolve to folks.
Substrata has got to be one of the best ambient albums ever. Cold, remote, inscrutable. If the Northern Lights were turned into music, they'd sound like this album.
god this music is astonishing. I feel like I am in the most remote part of the world, in some overcast yet beautiful land, like northern europe or greenland.
It´s an honour to read this as an inuit from Greenland. And you´re right about what you said. My brother and I, we used to listen to this all day long during the winter back then. Sounds good with the winter wonder land.
i remember that part in twin peaks. mixes into the music so amazingly here.
my dad bought this album in '97 when i was ten years old, it's had a lasting effect on me and along with aphex's saw 85-92 and several others is one of the only albums i can ALWAYS come back to and never be sick of. stargaze
This is an excerpt from TWIN PEAKS in it, "the Things i tell you will not be wrong" is the dialogue between the Giant and Cooper when Cooper mets him the first time while beeing shot (the first ).

which chapter? pls
rockorsario 3 years ago
According to IMdb its Series 2,1st episode
"Twin Peaks: (#2.1)" (1990)
[the Giant appears before Cooper again who's asleep]
The Giant: Sorry to wake you.
Dale Cooper: I wasn't dreaming.
The Giant: I forgot to tell you something.
Dale Cooper: You were right about the smiling bag.
The Giant: The things I tell you will not be wrong.
Its the second dialgue when Cooper awakes from a dream. Therefore it must be 2nd season.
Enjoy
