Listening to this performance in the garden, wispy clouds drifting past a brilliant full moon, is just what the doctor ordered. Makes me want to pick up playing the violin again. Sublime and delightfully raw, and so atmospheric.
@okramiman why did you quit i didn;t get around a violin till i was 17 i own a Petrus Antonius Della Costa 1757 i been playing ever sense i tught myself if i had a treacher i would have done better
@rootbeer1957 i belive i would have been a better player i more a fiddler then violinist but i like to learn classical or jazz i thank Setphane Gilppi
There are young musicians who cannot play this piece. Give respect for 70 yrs old, one of the legend violinits, Ivry Gitlis who can still play this piece.
LMAO..you say not to judge you yet you can judge sir Ivry Gitlis? Really? Something smells funny. It smells a lot like a double standard. btw-remember, no statue was ever built for a critic. Ivry Gitlis' style is definitely his own. It's unique with an abundance of colour. So tell me, how many records exist of YOU playing the violin? You need to judge with your ears, not your eyes. "Close your eyes, and listen"-Ivry Gitlis.
@garrrynec I'm not the one who's carrying a violin. If you are to expose yourself to the audience, not everything you'll hear will be good words. I would like to know what abundance of colour do you take out from 0:26 to 0:30 (for example). By the way, what style of bowing are you folks talking about? I've seen the score and Bartok didn't say anything about a special bowing in that part. And I just hate this performance, not all of Ivry Gitlis's
errrm, is that to say that the colour inherent to 0:26 to 0:30 is different from the colour inherent to 0:31 to 0:35. To say that you can divide a piece into 4 second intervals then assign them a quantitative colour is just asinine and immature. Colour is the playing style. Ivry Gitlis brings me back to a time where classical music was a bit more wild and less refined. It was more intuitive in that sense. His music has a pulse of its own; like a breathing entity.
Who the fuck left all of the empty seats????????

LIVE HIM ALONE.
Can you play it better than him?
You don't know what you are talking about.
He has made history just like other great Violinists have.
He always had his way of playing the violin and he deserves respect.

Look, I have my own opinion. Like or hate it, but don't ever judge me again.
