I used to watch this from the Bangor, Maine ABC affiliate and had NO idea that this was a real place...I always figured it was just some stage somewhere.
Yes Good Times it sure was! and to think it was all on tv...WNEW TV NY Channel 5...the good old days...I am familiar with Tonelle Ave....and went to a club there over 30 years ago....I bet it was that one! The Soap Factory bldg is still there but has a new name....my son told me...always advertised on the radio..
did some more research on the acts that played there: Donna Summer, Kool & the Gang, Loleatta Holloway, Patti Brooks, Claudja Barry, Tavares, Candi Staton, Lorna Luft, Maxine Nightingale, Crown Heights Affair, Carol Douglas, Sister Sledge, The Hues Corporation, Vicki Sue Robinson, Double Exposure.
The Soap Factory was on Route 46 in Palisades Park, New Jersey. It was THE place to go at the time. Twisted Sister, T. Roth & Another Pretty Face, and many other bands played there. There was a short lived local TV show, that was at best, thrown together.
TONS of disco and rock acts performed at the Soap Factory: Gloria Gaynor, Stephanie Mills, Melba Moore, the Sugarhill Gang, Evelyn Champagne King, The Trammps, The Tubes, Anita Ward, Karen Young, Sylvester, Pat Benatar, and many others
I caught most of these videos on You Tube. Considering my friends and I were there dancing EVERY weekend- we never heard of these tapings. There was a great regular crowd including "Tommy" who would always dance by himself, and "Uncle Bill," a senior citizen who was young at heart. I miss this place.
I loved the soap factory tv show even though I was only 10 at the time. Does anybody know where I can get tapes from that show? I've looked everywhere on the net, no luck so far. thanx.
This is lip synched like most of HoG TV appearances, but I've never seen it before. It was done around the time of the official video judging by her haircut
The audience was thrilled to see her and the group in person and also the tv show was being filmed at the time on channel 5 NY...the Soap Factory Disco show from 78....Directed by Joe LoRe from Bayonne...Her song was number one at the time.
I was there and a live tv show was being filmed at the time....and there was a huge crowd of people there at the time....because the song was a number one hit at the time....the club was in Fort Lee, Palisades Park NJ area right before the GWBridge.
remember this! the interview with the host of the show before the performance was edited out.
also, on the show was first choice and sylvester.
i believe first choice sang double cross on soap factory. tops1!

Really! How is Tommy? We would often drive him home. He lived just up the road.
