  • I used to live in this town and was always disgusted with the moronic hicks haha I love this song so much

  • Great song in the way it deals with something no person ever could detach him- or herself from; their home soil.

The Dixie Chicks are entitled to their own opinion. If you disagree you probably spell moron with an a.

On the other hand, my personal opinion is that regarding issues of foreign affairs they're not even anywhere near the insight of George W Bush.

At best, they could compete with Lucy Ewing.

I'm from Sweden and will support America as long as the US stands up for freedom.

  • I like it ! *****

  • emily is so sexy with that banjo

  • Funny think is, she couldn't be more wrong. I was born in raised in Austin but go to Tech, and honestly the people off campus here are the nicest, warmest people I've ever met. I love it here.

  • @raiderred1992 this is a song about her experience of what she went through after the george w bush comments not about wether or not people in texas are nice in general

  • Does anyone know where we can get the entire performance of the dixie chicks forthis episode? I went to the PBS website to try and find it...somehow it DOES NOT exist!! Help!!

  • The lyrics to this song are kickin'.

  • wish i could leave lubbock shit

    it sicks here haha

  • "I hear they hate me now just like the hated you. Maybe when I'm dead and gone, I'm gonna get a statue too" Dixie Chicks rock!!!

  • From what I gather, Lubbock sounds like the 10th circle of hell

  • @Adam19822000 It all depends on what your preferences are. If you like the superficial and fast life style of a big city with shallow people then Lubbock isn't the place for you. It isn't the sexiest place in the world, but in all my life I never met more friendly people. I love Lubbock and it shall always be my home.

  • Sorry to say I don't really like this style of music but these are great musicians and this song really cooks.

  • "maybe when I'm dead and gone I'm gonna get a statue too"... Go Natalie! Go Chicks!

  • I lived in Lubbock for six years, I still love Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks...some of us march to our own drum and don't bend over to men or what everyone thinks we should. so there. Lloyd, your daughter Rocks in a good way. :)

  • I lived in Lubbock for six years, I still love Natalie Maines and the Dixie Chicks...some of us march to our own drum and don't bend over to men or what everyone thinks we should. so there.

  • I'm from "PC" Sweden.

My country is situated far from both Lubbock as well as Bagdad.

In any case, she has a right of expressing herself and all of us who believe in true democracy ought to listen to her uncompromising voice.

    We will triumph, no worry.

We will defeat anything in our way.

  • When are you coming out with a new album. I liked the Court Yard Hounds album, but I miss Natalie's voice.

  • you people are dumb. quit arguing. if u like lubbock, stay here. if u dont, get out, which is what i did 8 years ago and just moved back, and honestly i consider lubbock an upgrade.

  • KLLL, one of the country radio stations in Lubbock quit playing the Dixie Chicks because of this song and the critisism over Bush. To this very DAY, THEY STILL DO NOT PLAY THEM OVER THE RADIO STATION. Pisses me off!!!!!!!!!

  • I support the WOT and think my country, Sweden, is doing the right thing sending troops to Afghanistan, but if we Westerners don't acknowledge universal rights like freedom of speech, what are we actually fightning for?

The Dixie Chicks have made a lot of great music, I'm convinced they love their own country and in any case, as human beings they are entitled to their own opinions.

  • awesome love the dixie chicks

  • I love this song. I wish they would record a new album already. They're going on tour this summer but no new album :(

  • One of the few country acts that doesn't make me cringe. Sorry to see Natalie leave the band. she brought a little punk attitude to country.

  • @DejectedPanda She didnt leave just taking a break

  • What's funny is that they got a lot of flack for this song from the people of Lubbock. Funny thing is she was right. I've been to Lubbock and people are like that. Close minded folk with just about as many mind clogging churches as artery clogging restaurants.

  • @madgasser01 dude u can find close minded people anywhere. turn on the tv. we are surrounded by stupidity, it all just depends on which crowds you hang around.

  • Comment removed

  • @dallas2denton I don't disagree with you there.

  • Excellent! What a great sound! Thanks

  • Yes, please, a new album!!!!

  • @laurieheartsdcx trey they new band with the sisters, they dumped the little one.

  • @datzfast Completely not true. Get your facts straight.

  • @sarmcl the new band is called the court yard hounds. shove that fact up your ass. ( ☼ )

  • @datzfast No crap dumbass but they didnt dump her. Must not be a fan or you would have known that.

  • @sarmcl no shit they formed a band without the little one, thats what dumping the little one means. God are you also fucking retarded?

  • @datzfast Its called a SIDE PROJECT. Dixie Chicks are still together. Learn to read.....or is that too difficult for you? I am guessing it is by your lack of the english language.

  • @sarmcl failed side project , the chicks are history.

  • Beautiful,Outstanding Musicians,,,,Great Performance,,,555 Stars.!!!

    Straight to my Favorites.!!!

  • These 3 beautiful ladies are true talents! AMAZING live!

  • what do you mean by "denying their roots in Lubbock". do they go around saying "we are not from lubbock"?

  • I loveeee them they sound sooooo real and they sing perfectly in person

  • i loveee the Dixie chicks! and I'm not a fan of country music but I have all their cds. :-)

  • i'm not a fan of country either but i just love this song :D

  • Lubbock is a city of over 200,000 people in the middle of nowhere.

  • like phoenix right middle of knowhere

    or oklahoma city

by the way the k is silent but its there

  • i love these chicks!!!!!!

  • Viva Chicks

  • boring? You must never have lived in Lubbock. If you had you'd know it's damn close to what it's like if you don't march to the tune of sheep.

Tech's a great university...sadly the city and most of it's folks haven't caught up with the current century.

  • Very Perfect!!!it comes to Brasil!!!

  • Crazy crazy republicans!! I am proud as hell to say that I am not from Lubbock! LoL Rock on Chicas

  • Happiness is Lubbock IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR!

Lubbock sucks! Too many republicans...no wonder it is still stucked in the 1800's.

  • WHY DO REPUBLICANS HATE OUR COUNTRY SO MUCH?

    REPLACING OUR FREEDOM FOR FASCISM!!!!

RazRaider I'm sure you definately do not have a clue, so like a little boy, I will explain it to you in simple terms:

It was Bush who sat cowardly in a room filled with school children choosing to listen to children books while the planes crashed into WTC.

Bush was given several warnnings about 9/11 & ignored them.

Bush started a misguided War in Iraq and now the Taliban are stronger than before 9/11.

  • What does the part where they said "On the strip the kids get lit so they can have a real good time, come Sunday they can just take their pick from the crucifix skyline" mean?

  • It refers to the hypocrisy of the disenfranchised youth of small-town Texas: party & repent!

  • "The Strip" is where you have to go in Lubbock to buy alcohol, the rest of it has to do with the obscene amount of churches in the city. I've been to Lubbock, and the best part of it was getting the hell out, trust me.

  • i lived in lubbock my whole life...still do atm. but neways...we got this place on the southside of town called 'the strip". its just a bunch of liquor stores with neon lights and shit. and there is like a shitload of chruches here too. not much to do here in lubbock except the music scene, tech football, and get shitfaced. :P

  • yep here ya there....and i live an hour away

  • amen they were right alll along ...

  • yeahh

look how many people hate bush now

  • i kept it real....i left it

  • Those Chicks were right about BUSH Vote OBAMA

  • "crucifix skyline" brilliant

  • I like Lubbock, it's a nice college town, but God knows that as soon as I have my degree I'll never be back here.

  • i live in lubbock

  • @missPUNKETT209 I'm sorry

  • Chicks were right about BUSH

  • please, explain to me what does lubbock mean (Im not native speaker :( )Thanks

  • Lubbock is the city in the State of Texas that Natalie Maines (the lead singer) is originally from. The title of the song - "Lubbock Or Leave It" - is a play on the saying, "love it or leave it".

  • Thanks a lot for explanation, sometimes its hard for me to understand :(

  • @kjs1170 It was also our city motto.

  • @kjs1170 it was also our city motto but it was changed after this song slammed us.

  • I live there for years...and everything she says in this song is true....boring as hell...thank god i escape.....i was on loop 289 and haul my butt out of hellbock.......

  • i live in lubbock >=|

  • What album is this one? I love this song.

  • This is on "Taking The Long Way", released in 2006.

  • I was born and raised, and still live in Lubbock. My dad worked with natalies dad in a local recording studio. and all i have to say is he was a real nice man. and im glad she had the balls to write this, its all true. i love this song.

id do the same if i had the power to be heard.lol kudos to them. people here are genuinely ignorant.

  • I used to play soccer in lubbock, its got a real nice dairy queen.....

  • Got to admit they got a raw deal out of all that political crap! But they have come back with an awesome album.... so i guess sometimes you got to break a few eggs

  • Sad thing is i lived in Lubbock for 2 years and i would never go back!

  • "Maybe when I'm dead and gone

I'm gonna get a statue too"

wow, this song is so powerful. it's very sad story behind it, though.

  • I believe every word of that quote too. All the people I Look up to were hated, I take it as a compliment when I'm hated.

  • WHAT????

Lubbock (their city) used to hate Buddy Holly like they hate her now... that's all she is saying! I think you misunderstood it mate!

"Baby when I'm dead and gone I'm gonna a statue too" (he's got a statue there)

  • Most of Lubbock laughed at Buddy Holly BEFORE he made his name in music...truth. Basically it was "what's a white boy doing playing THAT KIND of music" and "he just ain't right". You can look it up if they had the guts to keep it in the papers. And before you blast me I went to Tech, I lived in Lubbock. I still love the University but I still cannot abide by the attitude in Lubbock. You can drive to the strip to get a bottle but don't wreck on the way back.

  • @Roselleg You're right about that! He never even got to play a show in his own hometown. Buddy Holly was successful BECAUSE HE LEFT Lubbock; something the locals there are pretty silent on!

  • Yes! I heart the Dixie chicks!

  • i like the riff it`s all about it

  • Who rights this stuff? It's phenomenal!! The bass and drum sets up a great grove, and Natalie creates so much tension by flatnening the minor third of the scale on the tune, and I always like the sound of the minor V chord. It's all unknown to the masses, but that's what drives the song so much. Beautiful!!

  • I´m not into country but this chicks are tasty.

  • Any one got the guitar tabs and the banjo tabs?

  • ultimate guitar may have them. google it. or buy the book from a music store. S'the best way to do it. =)

  • Emily and Martie are my favorite, but of course I still like Natalie. Natalie has a great voice.

  • i hate lubbock, i lived there for a few years, most of the people there are racist bigots, but there's alot of hot sluts at tech.

  • umm well it would kinda suck to not be welcomed in your home town... thats what the song is about

  • Like most things in life most people cant handle the truth cuz it hurts too much.

I love the dixies cuz they r one of the very few from the commercial filled crap music industry that tells the truth.

  • ever since i heard them perform this live i cant get enough of it.

  • heh, I like your videos :)

  • God, do "allbrock87s" still exist on this planet? :-O( What's your problem with Natalie's Dad if HE doesn't have a problem with it. Maybe you should stand up and be a man/woman/person and confront HIM about your gripe somehow? You know? If you're right there in Lubbock 'n all.

  • I love this song! Such a unique way to incorporate Emily and Martie's talents.

  • I agree. The song shows all of their talents.

  • Incredible-- they are one of the only "modern" country artists I listen to-- the other one is Grechen Wilson. Most country today sucks

  • I'm FROM lubbock!! And I KNOW some ones gonna have a problem with me becuase of this but, I AGREE! ITS THE TRUTH!!!!!! THEY ARE RIGHT!!! IT IS HOW LUBBOCK IS! JUST MOST ARE TO BLIND TO SEE IT!

  • I fully agree, Natalie wrote a song that describes lubbock perfectly.

  • OMG!!! You guys RULE! Maybe the dork squad will figure out you were right on the whole time! Way to go! Love you all!

  • Unfortunately, Lubbock decided to mess with her simply because she had the "nerve" to exercise her 1st Amendment freedoms and to be 100% correct about how much of a mistake invading Iraq would be. It's a shame that after almost 4,000 Americans have lost their lives in Iraq and we've spent $600 BILIION over there (while 4 1/2 years after the invasion, the war continues to rage) the people that turned on the Dixie Chicks still can't admit that the Dixie Chicks were right and they were wrong.

  • As far as feeling bad for Lloyd Maines goes - don't bother. When all too many people in Lubbock turned on their hometown girl like rabid dogs back in 2003, Lloyd saw them for what they were and called them out on it.

  • From an article written back in 2005, long before this song was released:

"But some people are still mad at the Dixie Chicks two years later with Natalie Maines' hometown of Lubbock, Texas being one of the anti-Chick hotspots."

"William Kerns, [of] the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal said that in that west Texas city, there are those who haven't forgiven Maines and the group. He says it's the 'vocal' people who are demanding that the Dixie Chicks be banned from Lubbock radio."

  • (continued from previous post)

"Kerns said Lloyd Maines ... feels betrayed by the city of Lubbock for not supporting his daughter's right to voice her opinion.

"'He said at the time that, if Lubbock was boycotting Natalie, he was boycotting Lubbock,' Kerns wrote in an e-mail to The Town Talk. Kerns said local radio wants to play the Dixie Chicks but because of those same 'vocal' people, who are threatening boycotts of station advertisers, they won't play their music."

  • Hey Wampler-

As if Larry the Cable Guy has any merit to calling anyone fat. Grow up.

  • Hilarious that such a fat slob would talk that way about anyone, much less someone as attractive as the DCX. That guy looks like he was glued into a fat suit and beat with the ugly stick. What's funnier are the people that don't get that his act is based on mocking Southerners. He's from Nebraska, but he puts on a fake southern accent (that accent he uses in his act is 100% fake) and does a routine which consists of him just acting like a bad Southern redneck stereotype.

  • they are amazing live!! when i went to the concert it was awesome!

  • one of my favorite songs of ALL time!!

  • I love this song, it's one of my favourites from TTLW. It's not because of this song that they don't get played on lubbock radio stations they got boycotted by lubbock radio stations due to natalie's comment. Who care's what she said, their music is awesome and it's the music that matters. DCX ROCK!

  • This song R0XX!!!!! And what's the problem with her being from Lubbock?? Im from Texas and live like 2 hours from it and I have been to it and I think its a nice town on account of my aunt and uncle used to live there

  • oh yeah nice town to get drunk and party in and fuck a bunch a hoes

  • Grandi!!!!

  • LOL @ 13 yr olds

  • i lived in lubbock to 4 years and im sorry but this is the WORST song i have EVER heard .. and i have heard a LOT of songs..... no lubbock station will even play the dixie chicks because of this song!!!

  • No, you see, no Lubbock station would play them b/c of their anti-war stance. For years!!! Thus, this song was written. It is closeminded sheep like you that inspire such songs as this.

  • @tsquadlover007 Because the people of Lubbock don't like to hear the truth.

  • @madgasser01 i find that offending since i was born and raised in Lubbock, Texas...

  • @DynamiteKisser1 See, this proves my comment to tsquadlover007.

  • Ok I'm from Lubbock, I love the Dixie Chicks! But people here in Lubbock still can't get over the things said by these women. They refuse to play their music on the country radio station...that just pisses me off, I don't like Lubbock myself, it's too damn conservative. Well I'm not really from Lubbock, I'm from a small town about 12 miles east of Lubbock, by the name of Idalou.

  • my family from pops side is from Lubbock and Amarillo... but like you said... it's there conservative obsessions that define that area... my family gears more to the liberal side... believe it or not.

  • fuck lubbock and all their oil wells

  • Fuck you, Texas is awesome-- all of it!

  • yeah it is

  • And this from someone who moved from Michigan-- never going back, never leaving Texas! I love it here!

  • @acres90 shut the fuck up!!!!!!! i'am from Lubbock and i find that very offending so why don't you go and get a life!!

  • holy poop balls. they rule. I love this song. that singer is a badass, but they are all incredible singers. kind of king's X-ish on the harmonies which rocks.

  • they define artistic integrity! Go see Shut Up and Sing the documentary - it is an eye opener to what they are about! Prediction: they will sweep the grammy's!

  • You sure called that one!
