Love johnny rapp. amazin. i hate this big thing against electronic drums if you can play drums it doesnt matter what your playing. If thats the case all electric guitar players cant play guitar or are cheatin :) sorry for rant haha
@m1a2k3o those high ends are so close to real acoustic feel.. and imo electric drums are so much fun and it's also a whole new dimension for personal creativity
johnny is a excellent speaker and clinician, however, his herky jerky style cannot be changed. This unfortunatly produces almost the same riffs everytime he plays. So seeing him once is like seeing him 100 times. His sense of humor is very refreshing and enjoyable for the audience but the lack of dynamics and power makes it difficult for the audience to get excited during his performances. He is very pleasant and has an excellent personality.
@DAYDRUMMER01 Hmm, I'm still amazed at Rabb's performances, from a player's point as well as a person who also uses v-drums. I love how smoothly he moves between the technology and kits he is using without losing his groove at any time. His riffs are flawless and really fits what he is doing.
I think also if he didn't play the way he does for clinics, people would be disappointed because they would just end up asking the same questions anyway. Not hating on your opinion at all btw.
@DAYDRUMMER01 Not to belittle your observations, but I find it very hard to not become entranced by his style. You forget his style goes beyond just what you see. Unless I'm mistaken, the song is something he chose, along with the sounds of the kit. So this beautiful music is just what Johnny does. He may not have the crowd "jumping and shouting" but I highly doubt they aren't excited. It takes all kinds :) but if you're looking for something with ore power or drive behind it, listen to 2 and 3
The best drummers are the ones that can play the drums as a solo instrument and as part of an ensemble. Rabb can solo like the best, not to mention he makes the drums fit so naturally into a mix that everything just seems right. If this doesn't define amazing drummer, then nothing does.
Superb playing by Johnny, as expected by now. I really enjoy these Roland clips. Ideas for how to apply one-handed rolls musically and... wow... a new sparkly green shell cover for the TD-20.
I bet that kit, with all the bells and wistles, is expensive.
