  • Great performance!!! but quite frankly I still prefer Palcido Domingo's 1983 performance

  • bravo....!......cappuccilli.......

  • 4:09

  • CHE BELLO VEDERE ASSIEME FIGARO E IL CONTE D'ALMAVIVA ! MERAVIGLIOSO DUETTI DI DUE GRANDISSIMI INTERPRETI ROSSINIANI !!!

  • Vargas' the best nowadays

  • i have to sing this in lend me a tenor to!

    (im tito)

  • Vargas' voice is way too small to be singing late Verdi. He needs to stick to Bel Canto. Nice attempt though.

  • true. He was too quiet.

  • Nowadays, he's the best, in my opinion, principally Ramón Vargas, his voice is beautiful!!

    BRAVO

  • Viva Cappuccilli !

  • nowaday are they the best ?

  • haha i have to sing this song in a play called lend me a tenor... i can't sing like that.... LOL that was really good

  • SO do I! Man I both love and hate that play.

  • are you guys tito or max?

  • Beatifull version of this duet... Thank´s both artist!...

  • This is a lovely addition, but not without its flaws. One must admit that Tezier sounds a little wooden here and his diction needs work -- I still think that Bergonzi/Cappuccilli own this piece - you can find their recital on google video

  • Bergonzi & Cappuccilli were in their prime for the video, but they seem to be oversinging and not communicating like friends. From Bergonzi's demeanor (tense with nervous movements of the right hand), he was obviously concerned about being outsung by Cappuccilli. He discarded his signature sweetness and smoothness just to keep up with Cappuccilli who did not sing anything below mezzoforte. For more balance and subtlety, try Vargas-Gerello on YouTube.

  • respectfully, I do not agree, I found theirs to be most musical. Bergonzis hand movements aren't nervous, he resorted to it in a number of recital performances, it was more of a signature tic than anything else and to say he was concerned with being outsung is patently silly - two great singers sing, and those two had sung together several times prior to then.

  • His debut at Met was 2001 in Escamillo

  • Is it his debut at the Met?...I don't think so. I believe he's sung there before.

  • EnriqueCross-- Opera will not survive with heavy, loud, unmusical voices that have trouble lasting one or two acts of demanding Verdi operas. The most reliable and comprehensive " ROUGH GUIDE TO OPERA" considers Vargas a spinto to compare with the best these last two centuries (see review of Donizetti's La Favorite). May I suggest the DVD of Don Carlos, the complete, uncut French version in the stores now? Also, the DVD or CD of Baden-Baden Gala.

  • EnriqueCross--Del Monaco was way before my time, but I am familiar with all of his recordings. I like a lot of his output but he is definitely wrong for Don Carlo because of his inability to satisfactorily deliver stretches of lyrical passages requiring quiet, elegant singing with beautiful tone and control. There is no other tenor, past or present, who can convincingly & consistently deliver beautiful singing for some four hours in the live uncut Fr except perhaps Domingo at his best.

  • Bravo, Tezier

  • That would be what I saw, haha.

  • I agree...I have heard Tezier sing Renato in Ballo, very dramatic role, and he has a wonderful voice for it.

  • They should not be singing this rep, are you kidding? Both have beautiful, strong and expressive voices. Vargas has liquid gold for the tender, lyrical parts of the role, silver and bronze for the dramatic parts with lots of passion to burn. He is arguably the best Verdi tenor around these days.

  • I believe Vargas is a fine singer. This is too heavy for him. he has a fine cut, but it remains essentially a lyric tone. His Rossini is eloquent and first class. There is no dramatic part to his voice, a dramatic accent perhaps. Tezier live has a beauty to the voice but is far too lyric still. My opinon. It stands. We disagree. No agruments please, time will tell who is right in this.

  • How many Del Monacos can navigate through the lyrical parts of Don Carlo with the requisite flexibility, sensitivity and eloquence with sustained beauty of tone? Who among the tenors today can do justice to the live staging of the complete, uncut French version? Don Carlo is a young man, not Otello. Vargas can be dramatic in the quietest moments; try his Idomeneo. You obviously enjoyed him in Rossini 15 years ago;let go and allow him to move on for the advancement of opera.

  • And what of the advancement of their voices? Vargas is NOT spinto enough for this role. This age of small and tiny sounds trying this literature. Evident where? The high extremes. It does not bloom but is squeezed. Tezier is elegant, not so typical of this age. Part of a tradition long gone from French stages. I admire what he does a lot. It is for my taste too lyric. Opera will advance with or without them. Danbar have you heard Del Monaco? I assume not if this acceptable.

  • Remember the Met is 4000 seats.

  • I watched him from the FARTHEST point from the MET stage, and I heard his pianissimos distinctly clear. He has sung in closed venues with over 5000 seats, the Bastille, the Arena di Verona, etc with no problem. He has a well focused gold, silver and bronze propelled by superb technique, and can outdistance any big voice you can put out there if he so chooses, but he is humble to his art. Who in the past twelve years has sung more DC in Ital.,French, incl. the historic uncut French?

  • He makes his debut this year in Boheme. You are a psychic.

If he has already sung there, made no real impression. Hmm.

I like him and that house has used baritones with much smaller sounds, so be happy. He will get his chance to blow it or make it. Let's hope for the best.

  • their voices seem a bit disparate from each other

  • steainsy - any disparity in their voices arises from the fact that one is a tenor, the other a baritone using slightly different technique. Also, Tezier is still developing and much younger than Vargas who has been around much longer. However, both have rich and dynamic voices;both very musical, expressive with compatible singing style devoid of histrionics or distracting vocal mannerisms. They are wonderful together. You'll see them 4/08 in HD from the MET for start.

  • I don't believe Tezier's voice still needs developing. I have heard him sing live, it is far more dramatic and heavier than it appears on this recording.

  • Lucky you, I have not even heard any of his recordings other than the DVD of this Baden-Baden gala, let alone see him live. I was very impressed by the beauty of his voice and musicality. It is easy for me to believe that he sounded even more impressive to you in live performance. Wait a few more years, and he'll really be awesome. Male singers normally peak vocally around mid-forties. I won't be surprised if the MET paired him up again with Vargas in Ballo or Don Carlo.

  • I saw him as Renato in Ballo at the Bastille...his Eri Tu was absolutely incredible. I believe he's coming to the Met this season for Boheme, is he not? It may be next season...

  • I would love to listen to his Eri Tu even on CD, and he will be a magnificent Renato for the MET where he will be seen with Gheorghiu and Vargas in Boheme . Plus there will be high definition transmission to the large silver screens, and a DVD recording this season. I bet EnriqueCross cannot resist the temptation, and will probably sneak through the backdoor of some movie house somewhere.

  • you MUST be his agent or in love. Too funny. I will resist seeing any DVD with jacked up volume to make these lyric voices larger than they are. Hearing someone live is the real experience of opera. Rough guide to opera? Ridiculous. Be careful where you print this recommendation.
