You need to be administrator of you computer to do it. Go ask the person who set up your computer. ... or if you set it up, log in as administrator to install it.

You might've figuerd this out, but you download the 34 meg file on their site. Go to the download page, go to test software, then go to First Look and there it is.

I have an Apple computer (with specs that exceed the requirements) running Mac OS 10.5 so obviously I don't have Direct X. So does this mean that I am unable to enjoy the beautiful windlight effects? If so, does Linden Labs have any plans to make windlight compatible with the Mac operating system?

HI there.. I am recent resident of SL and I am a pretty regular youtuber..I have a channel that is steadily growing and I am now creating my Vlogs exclusively FROM second life..you can see what Ive got going so far if you like..

ALSO, several of my long time youtube freinds are creating avatars, and ( you may not know this ) there is an official youtube community council that two of my freinds are part of. I have suggested ( with some success ) that they hold their regular youtube council meetings IN SL.

I was really worried about this as I do not have a super fast computer. However, with First Look I've tried this on the "fallback" settings (windlight and basic shaders off) that are much the same as SL looks without Windlight. Not only does the fallback mode *still* look better, it runs a tad faster than the previous viewer. I will need a better computer to really get to enjoy all this, but I'm glad I can get a boost of speed with this.

As the creator of that avatar, I do admit, It was indeed a semi moch of the Main grid crux. I've had some misgivings about selling it on Main grid, because of the close relation it shares with the crux. I dont want to be accused of theft in any manner.. :( That was one of my earlier avatars, back when I gained inspiration from what I saw around me. When my mother bought a crux, I just fell in love with it! But i didnt want to copy it verbatum; I added my own artistic flare. :)

My experiences are mixed.

The floor of my pub for instance looks as though someone took the roof off and shone a spotlight onto the floor,

A lot of the textures we've taken loving care to create in photoshop are unceremoniously splattered with almost vulgar lighting

making things look weird, rather than enhancing anything.

it would be nice if the full viewer came with a switch to turn winlight off altogether should you not want it for any reason.

i had to downgrade from 169.04 to NVIDIA driver 163.75 and i had to start it by the shortcut because elsewise AA didnt work.... now it runs and my 8800gtx and c2d6700 have some new work....

Great video. I tried it earlier today, and was wowed by the water and clouds, but then have got to get the right balance of settings. Ended up with spiky artifacts here and there on high setting, but have 256mb ATI card and 1 gig of RAM.

I had this problem too. =/ I can't function on High or Ultra because spiky artifacts clogging the place..

Awesome. I been playing with a few presets myself. :) I love glassy water preset with 2.00 water fog. Looks so realistic. ^.^ Plus when your in a snowy region it almost looks like Atmospheric Bloom along the river edges. I even played around making the ocean into green toxic waste lol.
