Japanese rock always comes across really cheesy. They seem to not have the ability to build intensity--it's always pedal to the metal all the time, which comes across as cheesy. Listen to his vocal affect. Cheesy.

I absolutely love this band. Big deal if they have the same name as a band from like a hundred years ago. At least they're not in the same country. Shonen Knife actually played at my venue last fall...I would LOVE to get The Babys in too. That would be phenomenal!! I hope they come to the U.S. sometime!

Well, I clicked on this upload looking for The Babys. The band that owns the copyright for that name and I found this band. How bizarre.

If the person that owns the copyright does decide to sue, I think this band are in big trouble.

How hard is it to think up your own name? If I was them, I would be thinking up a new name pretty fast.

What would suck? I think it sucks that this band have used another band's name without their consent. If they do in fact get sued it will be their own fault won't it for stealing another band's name and breaching copyright. Would you like it done to you? Of course you wouldn't.

tbh, i don't think this band stole the name on purpose, but they were rather uncareful. this is a j-indie band that has kept their name throughout their time in the music bus. what would suck is if i didn't get to hear their songs anymore. I don't care what the band's name is, it's the music i enjoy. and no, i wouldnt like it, but i would prefer talking it out instead of sueing. :)

let's hope they change their name in the future to prevent anymore lashing out from other bands fans.

There are plenty of bands that share names. While I can't exactly say for Japan, US and UK copyright law does not protect band names. If a name is trademarked, legal action can be brought against those who use it without permission. It would be wise to research this fact before making poorly phrased accusations.

There have been bands over the years who have had the same name, such as X. There is the LA punk band X, and there is the JPN metal band X. When it comes to a band with a short name like X, or The Babys there are many reasons why both bands named themselves that, that do not involve one band copying the name of the other. For example, if a band wrote a song called "Hello, Kitty" about a girl named Kitty, would Sanrio be able to sue? Doubtful. Not everyone is trying to steal someone else's name.

Also for another example, in the 60's there was a Aritish band called The Rolling Stones, an American folk musician named Bob Dylan with a song called "Like A Rolling Stone," and a music magazine started (either in the 60's or the 70's) called "Rolling Stone." To my knowledge, there were not any fanboy/fangirls screaming "oh, someone needs to be sued, sue someone now..." But then again in today's "sue first, ask questions later" society I guess things are different... that's a shame I think.
