What's wrong with being half-Spanish? I AM half-Spanish on my father's side, just like she was! If you think this is something one should be ashamed of, you are a total asshole!!!
This is what the people of 20th century pictures said when they saw her for the first time. They tried to Americanise her, this is why they raised her hairline and generally changed her! There was still a spanish part in Rita! You can see this through her dancing talent and skills! You should be proud of being half-Spanish! <3
I adore her, if you ever can read the book of her biography "IF THIS WAS HAPPINESS" ... you will tell me later... poor Rita ... but she is still my favorite
This was very powerful! Wonderful. I'm half Spanish myself I think Rita was so beautiful before her hollywood makeover. She is beautiful no matter what though. The latine flavor was in her blood and looks no matter what Hollywood did to change hert! : D Love the vid!
For those who dare trash the memory of amazing Rita, she was a victim of repeated acts of incest by her evil and sick father that lasted for years until she escaped from him when her career took off and she had her own money.
Rita had a severe emotional problems with which most men were incapable or unwilling to deal. That's what she meant when she said, "They fell in love with Gilda, but ended up with Rita Hayworth."
Men wanted her as a "trophy", but none wanted to help her heal.
Thank you for making and posting this wonderful tribute.....interesting choice of music but it worked beautifully with the images...She was so very beautiful wasn't she ? Thanks again...
Her father was a Spanish flamenco dancer and her mother was an Anglo-Irish Ziegfeld girl. I don't really care about her background it's her talent and beauty that impress me.
"The Love Goddess" a whore? What planet did you come from? That's disrespect to one of the most successful actresses of all time. Paris Hilton is a whore, Lindsey Lohan is a whore, Rita? never. I tink you need to watch some of her movies, maybe you'll see her different.
How do you figure she was a whore? She had a very unhappy life and it has been suggested she was sexually abused by her father. Compared to the tramps of day (Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc.)the actresses from the '40s and '50s truly had it all.
hello,is amazing the people put over rita all latin sustance, when the the true is that she was daughter of a irish woman and a jew-sefardy man. This is that she was and gave her famouslatinlook. We really must to think she was more liked at arabian or semita girl;Salome would be right in this way and not Carmen...Roman from Buenos Aires
Rita's father was not Jewish, he was a Spaniard of Roma origin. She identified with the Spanish side of her, and thus is deemed the first Hispanic superstar.
Great video. Nice job. I think meowmeowkitty3 is correct, however. But can someone, anyone tell me what the YouTube "rules" on using copyrighted studio clips???
i know what i put was wrong, but it was a little hard and too long to incorporate into my video. and actually they didn't change the latin look cuz it fell out of style, it was becaue harry cohn and ed judson did not want her to be typecast as a spanish girl (or other ethnicities). they thought she had too much potential to be playing stereotypes.
Yeah but in a way she lost her "latin" identity. From brunette to red head to a blonde. I didn't even know she was of latin descent. Lations are always being portraied as sex objects. Rita was no exception. I think this video really points that out even though we may not want to agree with it because we love her so much.
i'm not sure she really lost her latin identity. physically, maybe, but harry cohn and rita never denied that she was spanish. it was in all the movie magazines that she descended from spanish dancers back then. and a lot of her characters in her film were also hispanic. but i do see your point. they wanted to turn the exotic gypsy into the all-american girl because people would take to her better. but i think the public would have loved rita no matter what.
The video is great, but your premise about her looking "too Spanish" is way off. Actually, the look was created to emphasize her Spanish heritage latin lover phase at 20th Century during the 30s, hence her seal black hair...the look changed after that period fell out of style. She was repackaged at Colombia into what you think of as "Rita Hayworth"
Who cares if she is half spanish. I would love to be as beautiful as her.
