Film today looks cool when melted like plastic toast.
Lacing-up in small booth is tight I prefer a bit of space to move around.
The red LED replaced the exciter lamp that was an ordinary bulb that shines light onto a photo-cell that translates the SVA into an analogue soundtrack that we hear as sound.
In the old days bed sheets where used but got dirty due to smoking and had to be taken down and washed. Plastic perforated screens never came around till 1950’s
if i own that place i would make it a lot better... not ruining it... just repair some stuff... more art deco style and put posters of old and new movies around the place.
It would be nice if he even briefly went over the Dolby, THX, or DTS Processors and the amplifiers. If he rolled up the screen and showed the speakers, that would be even better. That's the kind of stuff that people like me would want to see.
If you went back and did that, that would be sick, sick stuff.
That was fantastic Dave! I really learned a lot here. I had no idea those projector systems were so complicated. I couldn't believe how long those film rolls were too. 10,000 feet?? Crazy. Thanks for the insight.
Great job Dave!! I can remember spending many nights there! I remember Max-the original owner. My father bought an old Buick from him. I know Larry Pedley also, although he probably doesn't know me. Is there still a clock on the left side of the screen up front?? It was down low, as if on a the "stage." Good memories. I even remember the floor and the ticket booth. Larry is doing a great job keeping it as close to original as possible!! Thanks Dave!!
As much as I enjoy Dave's radio control videos, he has this uncanny ability to post videos that aren't RC related, and yet I'm absolutely glued to them as well. As a kid I made it a point to bug any older person about how things used to be done, because after the novelty of all this digital stuff wears off you realize obsolete technology can in some ways be superior especially if you value reliability. Do you think your Blu-Ray player will still entertain you 60 years from now? -Mitch
Thanks for that video .its nice to see that places like this still exist,In this fast paced world we live in.Its nice to slow down and take life at a slower pace and for a while and forget your woes
That's a nice little theater. Thanks for show it Dave. I use to work at a theater from '86 - '91. it was built in 1923 and it is still running today. I really enjoyed working there.
Helicopters, advertising........ Helicopter advertising, sounds good to me lol.... Great video Dave, brings back some good old memories working in the theater:) 5/5
It just occurred to me, how do they get the helicopter blades to rotate without any rotation of the helicopter itself? Is it just the weight difference between the blades and chopper? Or maybe the combo torque of the different blades?
its the torque. on the tandem heli the blades go in different directions and cancel each other. in "normal helis" the tail rotor pushes the end so it doesnt spin
Although a lot of theaters today are way bigger than that one, you don't get the same feeling walking into one like the one you visited, brings back childhood memories for most of us.
This was great Dave, I remember going to movies in similar theaters when i was a kid, unfortunately most all of them are gone and have been replaced with mega theaters. It`s crazy how those film go through so much, it`s just a matter of time until all is digital and this is lost too. Thank you very much for sharing :-)
That was really really neat. Most of the time my girlfriend doesn't really watch your videos(not into the RC stuff) but this time she was really interested! Really really cool! Never knew so much work went into running those projectors! WOW! Again, thanks for sharing!!
I had a tour of a theater a few years ago, part of a birthday party package we got for my daughter. It really is amazing how those projectors work. You probably got the idea of how the film pulls out of the center of the reel, and then gets rewound again, and is ready for the next screening without rewinding. We have a couple old theaters around here and sometimes they show old Buster Keaton films with a live pipe organist. It's fantastic.

Love your videos, I'm a subscriber. However, you really need to learn to post in the proper aspect ratio!
