got a 500d as well, but with videomode, i prefer manual focus because of the noise ;)

The lens has a pretty high distortion. I have an 18-200mm EF-S IS too but without some post-processing stills aren´t so good. And I haven´t heard about a way to correct distortion in videos.

Yes, it does zoom in great!...but at the maximum zoom, its best to use a tripod because the IS (Image Stabilization) can't be depended on for that distance of a zoom. This lens has gotten just average reviews, but in my opinion, there's nothing else on the market like it for the price!.. I only wish it were f/2.8....
