If you look at the video starting at around 1:55 you will notice a guy in a grey sweatshirt shove a guy in a blue shirt forward into the cops. The cops then react to the battery that just occured. Getting up in the cops face and telling him that you will kick his ass or any other threat is considered to be assault. There are many laws that are on the cops side.
The main problem is the government deciding how long people can protest. Public Property is the peoples property. By using curfews the govt is censoring the peoples right to protest. If one was to read the papers that led to the Bill of Rights you would see the concern of the Founding Fathers relating to the 1st and especially the 2nd Amendments.
What the cops are doing will not hold up in court so long as the protest remains peaceful.

It's difficult to see without all the angles, but in this particular instance it seems the police were the ones who threw the first blow. At 1:47, in the lower left hand corner, you can see the cop shoving the protester, with the protester retaliating with a kick. A few seconds later, the guy in the blue hoodie, probably spotting the commotion, had the bright idea of jumping on three officers.
But despite this, if cops come in riot gear and loaded weapons, that's provocation enough.
You can't walk into an angry mob of people, aggressively arrest their friends, and point loaded weapons inches from their faces, and expect the situation to stay within control.
The police are just the pawns. Their bosses are the ones that are the problem. The bosses need to be removed from power and replaced with people who actually respect the US Constitution and the American People.

The police are just the pawns. Their bosses are the ones that are the problem. The bosses need to be removed from power and replaced with people who actually respect the US Constitution and the American People.

@Rennrogue Pawns are the enablers. If the police would actually adhere to their oath of office, then many of these problems wouldn't exist. The "They're just doing their job" mentality does not justify them in any way. Their job is to serve and protect the people, not just follow any orders given to them.

Each persons right to assemble and address the government is a fundamental right. You do not have to agree or disagree this right is granted to each person by the Bill of Rights.
"the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" Once you attack the cops you loose that right.

A rowdy bunch of protestors growing in rage and armed will only end bloody for the protestors. The police will be better armed and trained. Besides, this is a PEACEFUL PROTEST. There is nothing wrong with people defending themselves. There is no hypocrisy in people arming themselves before partaking in a PEACEFUL PROTEST. There were many instances of people attending the Tea Parties, fully armed. You remember ANY incidents of police abuse? Me neither.

About 70% are imprisoned for nonviolent and/or victimless crimes, like possession of marijuana. This is big business, with Halliburton owning 53% of the market share, 2 44 billion dollar industry.
