There is no regular pattern to solar eclipses, other than that which can be deduced by tracking the complicated motion of the celestial bodies.

If we could not predict the relative locations of the earth, sun, and moon, then the occurrence of a total eclipse would appear to be totally random, as it did to people in days gone by.

It is only through a knowledge of astronomy, and applied mathematics, that we can predict the random nature of exactly when and where the next one will visible.

I'll have to say that is way cooler than stareing at the sun. Watching an eclipse on youtube much more interesting. That would be crazy if you didn't know it was happening and you thought it was a sign from God.
