Too bad this whole "threat" was an overblown PR event. The people who were apprehended had no explosives, no real plan, no funding, and no real knowledge of how to make their idea work. James is right: this is a war. So far, we have mostly not been fighting this like a war. No sacrifices have been asked of the civilian population, and no commitment asked either. We need neighbourhood officers like we had in WWII, we need youth working through uniformed youth defence groups, we need to stop influx of people from high-risk countries and groups.

The answer 'find and stop terrorists' seems rather vague and simplistic; What? How??? Kill them? That isn't working! Ummm, how about NOT treating it like war and attack root causes of terrorism - provide the means to overcome poverty, prevent huge inequalities between nations and actually try to come up with a comprehensive solution to the issue between the Israeli and Palestinian peoples, which feeds the fuel of a lot of resentment within the Mid East.

To a point, by all means continue with the counter-tererrorism measures for the threats already aimed at the States. However, if you don't deal with the root causes you're forever going to be needing more and more counter-terrorism units working overtime to stop a 9/11-ish attack from sneaking through! Surely this would be even more effective than simply being at war forever.
