I have some disagreements with the pistol disarms with the kotegaeshi techniques. The pistol remains in the assailant's hands for too long and point at too many unsafe directions before it is taken away. I suppose the execution really has to be quite fast in an actual situation...
@Anthonychua1982 Let me help you understand this situation. The best thing to do is whatever he says, and if you have the chance. RUN Disarming a gun is fucking bullshit
@PairoftheSocks I used to be able to run faster than speeding bullets once, then I took an arrow to the knee...
These guys are training to be close protection personnel, they are not supposed to run. Hence my comment that the gun remains in the hand for too long and points in too many unsafe directions. There are lots of people out there whose jobs are as you said, compulating bovine manure.
its not so esy to cath the knife from a aggressive man, you practise wrong.. you must be harder and much more faster. its child play what you are doing.
@sinustechno You have to start practice somewhere. But I agree, many aikidoka don't their their training as serious as they should. In this video, there were several instances of lackluster uke's. Although, I suspect as the video implies they're not accually aikidoka (except for the trainers).
Aikido is a wonderful form of self defense, as long as your attacker is as compliant and easy to control as the attacker shown in the videos. If you're up against a real bad-guy in a real-world situation, then aikido is about as useful as twirling a parasol.
this "master of aikido" is real is that the minute 1:27 when the assailant will attack the target and combat the teacher but the teacher leaves the attacker with the knife and do not do that you must remove the knife
all good in controlled conditions but look closely.... do they teach pre-cognition, because many time the defender moves before the offender shows what he is doing, this is not for amatuers, you fools who published this video should not be so careless, people look at this stuff and think "I can do that..." guess who dies next time this happens....

Good aikido. Bad gun disarms. Grabbing by the wrist and doing dynamic sphere throws before the disarms, even minor ones like tenkan kotogaeshi, puts the rest of the world in the line of fire.
I don't understand how they get away with having their feet in one line or even intersecting. Looks like a horrible balance mistake asking to happen. All he needs is a push sideways at that moment. Somebody explain. I don't see the redeeming value in this. Look at 0:33 to see what I mean. I am also not overly impressed with 1:28. Turn your kidneys to a bare knife? Sounds like a bad idea. The hold on the gun at 4:32 is bad. If bad guy fires that moment, the good guy's
@Douglasoky the stance is about using your core and centre to control a person using technique, the turning is called ura meaning behind the attack meaning the attack has happened and you are off the line of attack the opposite entry is omote which means entering which is entering before the attack has happened, and with a firearm it is about surviving he was out of the line of fire, using the correct technique with the gun away from him, hope this helps
@Douglasoky I agree. Some, if not most, of the gun disarms would get you shot, specifically at 2:23. Also, I couldn't agree more about turning the back at 1:28. They also seem to be making the mistake of training without resistance. When they grab someone and tie an arm up the person never panics and jerks away or pushes back. I don't see anyone training for the scramble. It's much harder to throw someone who is resisting as if their life depended on it than these drills are showing.

1:28 cual es la gracia de darle la espalda tan descaradamente a alguien que porta un cuchillo? ni por mas que intentes no perder contacto con la mano del arma... indecentemente poco seguro.
I've seen on YT that some thugs (at least those from Chile gettos) use to stab their victims on the chest, using the elbow to hit first, pretty much like the instructor pushes the other guy to the floor at 2.03.
The forearm energy is better used that way, and stabs would easily punch the heart or major vessels, with minimal effort.
I wonder how Aikido would help with an attack like that.
@gonzalo060375 From a man who enjoys doing aikido for many years I can tell you the simple answer nothing, as we would not get into that situation in the first place, Aikido is a soft art being able to use mind of size and pyshical force, I believe controlling a situation using technique is better than destroying it by force, of course you are not invincible noone is, You will get hit, but Aikido is knowing how to defend yourself and protect the attacker,
that people that were attacking with a knife from 1:40 were quite funny)))))) If a man decides to kill someone, he won't show his weapon at all. Just 1 short hit from close distance. And on this video, attacks were SO stupid))) omg)
@BlessedSalmon martial arts is not about being a ninja, but being able to defend yourself, indeed if an attacker wants to kill they will, they would stab from behind or up close or shoot from distance, you cannot defend what you cannot see or reach, but martial arts is being able to adapt and being able to naturally react to a real situation if it occurs, and being able to survive and defend your life, thats martial arts, there is no such thing as a greater, or invincible art...thats the movies.
@BlessedSalmon martial arts and a job of being a bodyguard is two different things, bodyguards are payed to throw themselves in front of danger, martial arts are throwing themselves away from danger,,,
Yea, he has to protect the VIP. But the VIP would be dead if a killer will kill the bodyguard!)) And on 1:42 we can see that the attacker was moving much slower than bodyguard. In equal speeds he would kill both.
Nobody forbids to use martial arts for protecting people. In that moment, the bodyguard had to kill or at least to knockout the attacker, and then help VIP to escape. Istead of that he turned his back to the enemy! How silly LOL
@BlessedSalmon Dont you get it, they are demonstrations in the video ie, NOT THE REAL THING. The video is suggesting how Aikido is used in particular situations. Practicing with a real knife is extremely dangerous, do you actually think they would attack like a ravaged attacker to prove a point on YouTube? Aikido just like any other MA is about efficiency in any situation and in situations where a gun or knife is involved, I cant see of any other MA that handles these matters with others peoples
safety as a concern especially if the weapon is knocked out of the hand of the attacker. I would prefer see to the gun/knife twisted out of the hand and into bodyguards possession wouldnt you?
I have been studying Aikido for over 12 years. I still have much much to learn but people do not learn this defense (yes DEFENSE) strategy to offensively hurt people or take advantage of them. Every man and woman should learn to defend their bodies from cowards, thieves and murderers.
It stands to reason to me that while you are slinging Joe bad guy around he could bust off every round he has, and well who is always standing around VIPs? Some of these techniques where control of the firearm is gained quickly I think would work well, but not the ones where the bad guy has control until the ground...
It is just frustrating that the only one with courage to video his techniques in no holds bard Aikido vs other stylists is a man with one arm. Youtue this and see. Grats to that man though. It's a pretty art (though like I said I like the anti gun here), but like Bruce Lee said, "a punch is just a punch, a kick is just a kick," everything else is a "classical mess."
I'm actually learning this at the Conde Academy in Boca Raton. Ya it works! Im just a beginner and had a guy tapping out in one of the holds my Sensei taught. fightluv is right slow at first and hen you get better as you go :)
This is the ONLY Aikido I have seen that I must admit to appreciating. Those telegraphed overhead knife attacks (empty handed or bladed) and the ballet dance that follows is crap. But this here - I think I can swallow this as viable techique. Well done /salute
@Chad01234 what do you mean the ONLY aikido? There's only one aikido. Aikido was ALWAYS about self-defense. These techniques are no different than what you see elsewhere. You see the circular movements, the weapons techniques, the tenkan or turning motions, etc.
The only difference is the techniques are streamlined here for the purposes of training bodyguards.
@jamespohh fairly effective looking though I still prefer American Kenpo variations. So, what I'm saying here, is vs gun and knife it seems fairly decent (providing a knife user dedicates a fully extended arm). The gun stuff is very nice. As far as the ballet involved in the rest of the art its definitively why you won't see it in the octagon.
@Chad01234 Actually there is someone in MMA using Aikido. You don't see a lot of things in the Octagon, but that doesn't mean it is useless and it doesn't mean it cannot be adapted to the octagon. Aikido is still a budo first and foremost and that's why it's not meant for the Octagon. Stripped down it is Aikijujutsu as such it shares a multitude of techniques with jujutsu, because it IS jujutsu.
The art is derived from sword techniques so its no stranger to weapons retention
@patje7 Aikido is not about how powerful or strong you are; it is more about speed and leverage. I have my 2nd Dan in Aikido and I will tell you, it takes very little power to do these moves. I find that being big is somewhat of a disadvantage: I am 6'3" tall and weigh 265lbs, which gives me more power for the throws, but it can be somewhat harder to fight somebody that is smaller and knows a thing or two about attacking your center of balance.
CAPITALISM creates ELITE CRIMINALS. BANKERS. DRUG LORDS. INEQUALITY. INSECURITY. GREED. RUTHLESS COMMUNISM. NWO. NAZI. TERRORISM. LAZY PEOPLE. REBEL POLITICIAN. ANARCHY. worst is WAR etc.. etc..
CAPITALISM was designed only for CORRUPT OPPORTUNISTIC MANIPULATIVE LAZY POLITICIAN. BANKERS. LAWYERS. DRUG LORDS. JUDGES. CRIMINALS. DICTATORS. RULERS. KING. SULTANATE. EMPEROR etc. etc..
HARD WORKING PEACE LOVING HAPPY HONEST SOCIETY were always the slave victim and poorly starve to death. :(
all the gun disarm videos i've ever seen always show how to disarm a gun from someone holding a gun with one hand. What if the guy holds the gun with two hands
Almost any martial art benefitial if practiced regulary and taken seriously! I want to get back into MA myself, but I am 50 now and can't do alot of running.... thinking about this(aikido) or perhaps Krav Maga but all I know about KM is that it comes from Isreal.

DaisyHeadMaizy1 3 months ago
safety as a concern especially if the weapon is knocked out of the hand of the attacker. I would prefer see to the gun/knife twisted out of the hand and into bodyguards possession wouldnt you?
DaisyHeadMaizy1 3 months ago
@DaisyHeadMaizy1
If I understood right - u mean that bodyguard has to take away any weapon from the attacker. If so - I agree.

Its not Aikido, its also ninjutsu (omote gyaku technique)!!

Lot of people says that it is useless, and even funny. PersonaIly, I didn't belive, that Aikido could be effective! Now, after this- I apologize! ;D

If i see that one day, i will go to my dojo quickly and say: Sensei i just saw a bodyguard use Aikido, nice eh?

This is the ONLY Aikido I have seen that I must admit to appreciating. Those telegraphed overhead knife attacks (empty handed or bladed) and the ballet dance that follows is crap. But this here - I think I can swallow this as viable techique. Well done /salute
Chad01234 3 months ago
@Chad01234 what do you mean the ONLY aikido? There's only one aikido. Aikido was ALWAYS about self-defense. These techniques are no different than what you see elsewhere. You see the circular movements, the weapons techniques, the tenkan or turning motions, etc.
The only difference is the techniques are streamlined here for the purposes of training bodyguards.
jamespohh 3 months ago
@jamespohh fairly effective looking though I still prefer American Kenpo variations. So, what I'm saying here, is vs gun and knife it seems fairly decent (providing a knife user dedicates a fully extended arm). The gun stuff is very nice. As far as the ballet involved in the rest of the art its definitively why you won't see it in the octagon.
Chad01234 3 months ago
@Chad01234 Actually there is someone in MMA using Aikido. You don't see a lot of things in the Octagon, but that doesn't mean it is useless and it doesn't mean it cannot be adapted to the octagon. Aikido is still a budo first and foremost and that's why it's not meant for the Octagon. Stripped down it is Aikijujutsu as such it shares a multitude of techniques with jujutsu, because it IS jujutsu.
The art is derived from sword techniques so its no stranger to weapons retention
jamespohh 3 months ago
Wow, it look so simple, but it's an art.
Sorry fotr my bad English, but can i learn this too, dispite my 33 age?
I am not a strong guy, not that muscle man. Can i handle as not-muscle man against strong people with guns and knifes? can learn this at any age?
Hope for answer,
friendly greetings.
patje7 3 months ago
@patje7 Aikido is not about how powerful or strong you are; it is more about speed and leverage. I have my 2nd Dan in Aikido and I will tell you, it takes very little power to do these moves. I find that being big is somewhat of a disadvantage: I am 6'3" tall and weigh 265lbs, which gives me more power for the throws, but it can be somewhat harder to fight somebody that is smaller and knows a thing or two about attacking your center of balance.
