This story is so very tragic, Tom was actually in a coma for nine months before his eventual death. He was shot by a young sergeant in the IDF, Taysir Hayb who was subsequently sentenced to 8 years in jail (after lengthy campaigning by his family). The slightly bizarre thing is Sgt Hayb was an Arab (bedouin) volunteer in the army.
