  • I raced an older turbo Eclipse in my 2001 Mustang GT, and boy was I impressed. Stock, he wouldn't take me, but he was running higher boost and plenty of bolts on's. I'm running nearly 300hp and the wheels and this guy took me by a car length! Impressive.

  • @juechter true that lol. i drove an auto 93 not of my own choice i had to deal with parents decisions on cars then lol. it got 33 mpg and had a great stereo, handled decent and was comfortable to drive. the downside was the auto trannies were garbage and i got shit for driving a car called a probe lol. it was a decent car but it was pretty lame. everything comes to an end even it was amazing. except seemingly the mustang and corvette lol

  • @miniimoto95 a 1g DSM turbo DSM can be found running in the 1k range. I almost bought one for 1300 that was AWD, clean body / exterior.. was auto though and only had some minor oil leaks. I've seen many of them though just around the 1500 range in overall good running shape. They're really cheap, and in any case have a way better aftermarket than probes.

    I sold my N/T daily driver dsm in great shape for only $850 even.

  • DSMs (eclipse90-99 eagle talon 90-98? plymouth laser 90-94) have crazy potential. When they first came out as a 90 model year, a turbo I4 AWD car was rare, a I4 car with 200+ hp was very rare but now they're cheap to buy and build

  • 14b is DSM 1g stock turbo... 2nd gen is T25... a little smaller. My stock 2g went 14.0@97 with free mods and a K&N. I miss sport compacts that run. Im thinking of selling my 98 GT with PI swap for something else. Buddies trying to talk me into a 96 PGT (Probe GT V6). His has a nice turbo kit, and Mega Squirt... Does 12.70's... Which is what my GT would run with cams... I think I may go back to DSMs... something about a 4g63... You just dont feel vulnerable with that ride!

  • yea (2g) gst's come stock with t25's which are bettr than (1g) 14b's. I use to have a 1997 2G with a MHI BIG16G, fmic and hardpipes including intake....I beat S2k's, 08 Si's anything with less than 300hp was easy with an automatic DSM.

  • it holds more boost but not a significant amount...why would i use a 1991 turbo to "upgrade" my 1997 turbo. obviously most of the 14b's u find are blown or on the way. I wouldnt get a 14b for 4 more pounds of boost. Id do like I did, spend 600 and get a brand new MHI Big 16G.

    TD05-14B (stock 1st gen) 275-300hp@ 21 psi

    TD05-16G (small) 345-365hp @24 psi

    TD06-16G (large) 365-385hp @24 psi

    EvoIII 16G 385-420hp @ 25 psi

    TD06-20G 430-450hp @ 25 psi

    T25 (stock 2nd gen) 235-250hp @ 17 psi

  • And thats not all base numbers those are max outputs...a stock 14b on normal boost is garbage. thats my main point. Its stock psi is what 7-9lbs. correct mi when im wrong. a stock 2g with a T25 on stock psi will beat a 1g with a 14B on stock psi.

  • A 14b has a flow rate of 405 cfm while a t25 flows at 325 cfm. The "big" 16G flows at 525 cfm. A "Big" Mitsubishi Heavy Industries 16G is the same turbo that came on the Evo I and II's with a TD05H compressor housing (instead of a TD05 in a "small" 16G). Just throwing in some history :)

    Considering you can grab a 14B in good condition for $50 and a rebuild kit for another $50, you can spend 1/6 of the price to get a nice upgrade from the t25.

    I run a TD06 20G.

  • It isn't the stock turbo for the 2g.. The 14b comes stock on the manual 1g. The t-25 comes on the 2g's stock

  • The F2T's are no joke. Unfortunately, the stock ECU has boost cut at 11PSI. My buddy has a 1G mx-6 GT (same as probe) with 76,000 miles on it that he got for $1800.

    I bought my GST for $600, swapped the engine into a talon shell I bought for $50. I have a TD06 20G, DNP Manifold, Apexi turbo-back, Greddy Profec B-Spec, Apexi S/AFC-II, Type-S BOV, Stage I clutch, Walbro 255, 680cc injectors, and much more including body parts, a crossmember, a rad support, etc...

    I spent just over $1200.

    When you start modding, unless tuned perfectly and every mod done 100% right, it's going to start causing issues. People seem to miss the fact that completely stock DSM's are RELIABLE as hell and get 30+ mpg.

    Seriously, the ONLY thing that ever is known for going out on stock DSM's is the stock clutch, if its being driven hard.

    People are stupid when they beat the shit out of a 10-20 year old DSM and get mad when it breaks.

  • Dsm's break because the make huge power.

    Most people don't upgrade surrounding drive train parts to take the extra power. I have never had a rod knock or anything of the sort and i run my car hard that why i got it because its cheap to go fast.

  • the 1g block is so you can get more power out of them. it has nothing to do with reliability. i have 2 95s and they both run fine all you have to do is take care of them and not dog them out.

  • u mean 6 bolt not 1g block as the 92 1/2 and up t/e/ls all had 7 bolts, and they CAN all crankwalk and it has been done, and if you dont beat on it they will last you

  • 6 bolts have a bigger bore to them thats why most do the swap cause its cheaper than having it ported. i prefer the 7 bolt myself. i used to have gst now i have a rs with the motor completely rebuilt with a hahn stage 2 turbo kit.

  • Bore is the same. I run 2g pistons on 1g rods in my 1g dsm.

  • The bore and the stroke are the same. But the 2g rod is not as thick as a 1g rod. The crank of course is different. But 7 bolts are still good motors.

  • Also, alot of the parts under the probes hood are mitsubishi too. Check out the cruise control module or the alternator for instance. my 89pgt is almost like a franken car! but I still love it to bits.

  • Ford owns stock in Mazda. They worked a join project in the late 80s to design and build the Probes, which shares many parts with the MX-6, and 626 mostly. It also derived it's ehadlights from the 80's rx-7.

  • The stock probe GT's and mx-6 GT's have a F2T from mazda. They're pretty quick, I've ridden in them.
