  • Yeah , its very Dream Theater -ic , but sounds great :)

  • Reminds me of Skyfire!

  • not bad at all, for some digital purposes like games or trailers and such :)

  • To me this sounds like something that would fit perfectly on Porcupine Tree's Deadwing album

  • back the keys off a bit and you'll have something good

  • Sounds like symphony x. But with a bad sound.

  • @peaches4bitches Hahaha! You're right! :-)

  • please change your guitar tone, it's sooo digital.

  • @levojulian I have a while back. :-D

  • Definitely sounds like something that could come off a Dream Theater album.

  • @6672rock Glad you liked it!

  • No se si me copiaste, o solamente se parece tu cancion a la mia..

  • Parker Fly? very cool guitar! nice playing too

  • @GU1T4RG0D1594 Thanks buddy! This one is a Nitefly model. I bought it about 14 years ago..

  • Some of these comments are extremely unintelligent, I'm stunned.

    Anyway, sounds good.

  • @Nattlefrosten Hehe! Thanks buddy! :-)

  • i like what you were going for

  • @guitarnukka724 Thanks man!

  • This sounds like a prog metal riff, it fucking is a prog metal riff

  • all these hater are just being little bitches because they wish they could come up with songs or music like you!its a great song man!!

  • I like this, though I'd probably call it a progressive/melodic metal riff.. Maybe even a mixture of black metal because it doesn't seem that your guitar is tuned all that low. Great stuff though. :)

  • dude this is about as far from progreesive as you can get, and as for the cloth at the top its for playing better pinch harmonics and i didnt hear one in the entire song WTF

  • @1ManBionic The cloth is a hairband. :-D It's also used to avoid any unnecessary noises and it was on my guitar because at the time I was recording a lead for a student that required an 8 finger tapping section. :-)

  • Do some research yourself before telling people what progressive metal should sound like and how many strings or what tuning your fucking guitar should be in before playing it. You are an ignorant goof. I know what "DJENT" is, how the fuck is that relevant to this video, or relevant to anything??? It hurts to think people can be as stupid as you. Thanks to the original poster of this video, cool stuff.

  • @NiklausMetal Djent IS a form of progressive metal, herpderp... Yeah, you can make progressive metal in any tuning you want, but it's PROGRESSIVE (do you know what that word means? dictionary that shit) to tune lower. And for fuck sakes, I was only joking when I said that comment to begin with, no need to get your fuckin panties in a knot.

  • @ScottySolace Haha! It really doesn't matter what you call it, does it? ;-)

  • @ScottySolace You're a fucking idiot

  • @NiklausMetal Lol kid, do you even listen to prog. metal? What about djent? You probably don't even fucking know what that is. Don't talk shit when you're fuckin ignorant.

  • The guitar should be louder than the synth you have going... IMO of course.

  • @ScottySolace Symphony X play in Eb :D

  • John petrucci and DT disagrees.

  • @ScottySolace Putting music into confining categories is blasphemy. Music isn't about being like every other band

  • @anonymous564 Take a violin on stage with a heavy metal band and see if they appreciate the embarrassment. No you don't need to be "like every other band", but there are basic guidelines to what certain genres should comprise of and sound like...otherwise it's not the same genre, it's something else. In any matter, yes this video is progressive metal, I never said it wasn't. It's just just that most prog. metallers use extended range guitars nowadays...

  • @ScottySolace Well the point of progressive is to be progressive.. Everyone uses extended range or low tuning, so wouldn't that make standard tuning the new progressive? :P

  • @ScottySolace Woah bro. Many a metal band have included important orchestral parts in their music, violins included. Don't think that'd be embarrassing at all.

  • @CasualDiscussion Haha true, I was really just trying to make an example, I actually love symphonic black and gothic metal very much.

  • @ScottySolace so most of Opeth songs are blasphemous? despite the fact they are gods of prog metal?

  • @hammo1986 I love opeth, but they're sure as hell not a djent band. Yeah they're progressive, for their time, but those words don't mean the same thing anymore. In fact, a lot of people don't even know what progressive is, they think just adding a couple odd time signatures or off-sounding 4/4 instantly makes it prog... and it doesn't, it just makes it a poor rip off of some meshuggah song. now can you people stop replying to my comment it's like almost 3 months old now, give it a fuckin rest.

  • @ScottySolace nice close minded attitude by saying that all recent prog stuff is a rip off of meshuggah.

  • @hammo1986 When the fuck did I say that...? I'm saying that a lot of people THINK that, that is what progressive metal is, when in fact it isn't. I never said all recent prog. metal is a rip off of meshuggah, do you really think I would listen to so much prog. metal if I actually thought that? Shows who's closed minded here, cant even read a comment properly lol

  • @ScottySolace you said it just about here they think just adding a couple odd time signatures or off-sounding 4/4 instantly makes it prog... and it doesn't, it just makes it a poor rip off of some meshuggah song

???? or did u not type that?

  • @hammo1986 Yes, I did type that. What's your point? You seem to think that I'm somehow calling all recent progressive metal a rip off of meshuggah. I never said that. I said that PEOPLE THINK that progressive metal is just odd time signatures, which ends up sounding a lot like a poor meshuggah ripoff. I never said "ALL RECENT PROG METAL IS A MESHUGGAH RIP OFF", or even anything similar to that. If you still don't get what I'm saying... then there isn't much hope for you in this world.

  • @ScottySolace ive had a bit of think about this comment thread and seems im being a bit of a twat. i listened to some meshuggah and i see whgere your coming from. sometimes a get a little fanboyish when it comes to Opeth. a believe an apology is in order. clearly we both have good points and i found it necessary to start a "youtube fight" over it. sorry mate. lets go and enjoy some progressive metal. whether it be 6, 7 or 8 string guitar. :D

  • @hammo1986 @hammo1986 lol it's no problem dude, dont worry about it. regardless of the type of metal you listen to, you are still a metalhead and I respect that aha

  • @ScottySolace so what your saying is that what dream theater does a 3rd of the time is blasphemy?

  • @SASPython You know what I'm trying to say, no need to be such a smartass about it. Dream Theatre uses 7 strings, and just incase you're not very good at counting, you can ignore one string and play in E standard every once and awhile if you so please.

  • @ScottySolace im not beibng a smart ass... dream theater primarily revolves around 6 strings, every once and a while petrucci has songs for 7 strings like the 12 step suite songs, and you wouldnt use a 7 string to play 6 strings... wtf?

  • @SASPython what do you mean "wtf". you make it seem like its confusing and/or weird that someone would use a 7 string to play a 6 string song. I do that all the time, it's not hard lol, you just ... i dont know how to describe it because it's quite simple already. you just, do. you play the song, using 6 strings instead of the 7 that you have available. A 7 string in standard tuning is BEADGBE ... ignore the B string and that's 6 string standard tuning.

  • @ScottySolace if you were doing a cover...say you had a 7 string and u felt like playing Metropolis pt 1 or something. But if you were writing something for 6 strigns hen why play it on a 7 string? too look modern 'up to date'?YOu can be just as 'progressive'(and i use that term loosely) on a 6 string as u can be on a 7 or 8 string.anyway i dont want to get into a useless arguement about guitars, even though its a nice topic, but this song is pretty progressive metal sounding.or atleast prog rock

  • @SASPython im just saying its possible, and I'm personally too lazy to switch guitars anyway lol

  • lolx people saying here that progressive is a genera of breaking rules so what he is doing he is running in diffident keys like this without any transition isnt it breaking the rules

  • wats the rag for?????? ive seen tht before but i dnt know wat the point of it is

  • @KIDWICKED369 It's only to mute the strings to make it sound cleaner...

  • Not realy progressive, but pretty good man!

  • @a7xforlife12 Thank you :-)

  • @a7xforlife12 This sounds like Rush more than anything, so for you to say it's not progressive is kinda not accurate.

  • @coheedcrazy Yeah i dont know why i said this wasent progressive..

  • @a7xforlife12 How is it not prog?

  • when you're coming up with riffs in progressive, they don't necessarily need to be in different time signatures right? I like the sound of constant changes but i want to discover more characteristics of progressive

  • @sphynx105 No, they don't have to.... I'm really not the good person to ask. I think each one has his own way of defining a music label. I called this progressive just because that's the style I chose to fit it, but maybe it would fit better another?

For something similar to this I would concentrate more on single notes. That might be one of the things you are looking for?

  • @sphynx105 progressive metal means that you take influences from completly other genre and incorperate them into metal, so you can do whatever you want

  • @sphynx105 progressive just means different than the norm

  • There's nothing progressive about that riff. It's just melody riffing in 4/4. Basic stuff.

  • @amjan You're right. ;-)

  • @amjan Progressive doesn't necessarily have to be poly rhythms and irregular time signatures dude. Opeth is progressive. They are usually in 3/4 and 4/4.

  • @amjan Time signature changes don't make something progressive.

  • @amjan Go pick up a Dream Theater album and re-instate your comment. Very, very proggy.

P.S. Just because it's in 4/4 sig, doesn't mean it can't be prog. Not sure if you were implying that or not, but just saying, it can be done. :-]

  • @amjan Progressive metal is about thinking outside the box, breaking the rules etc... With your comment i can see you clearly don't know progressive metal cause you wanna limit it with rules and shit like that.

  • @amjan if he says its progressive, then its progressive. And it was nice.

  • This is great stuff! Bb#11 is the coolest chord ever!!!1

  • @ReflectionMoives I agree! :-D

  • i think its a cool idea to mute the strings like that. nice progressive riffs!

  • @Amazongrassmonster Thanks!

  • May I ask, what do you use for choirs (vst)?

    regards

  • @WhiteDeathPL Man, unfortunately I don't remember. This was recorded in my PC but I switched to Mac about a year ago.

It was probably a free soundfount downloaded somewhere. Can't remember which one though... :-/

  • using something to mute the strings on the neck... theres another way to get rid of that problem... learn to play better

  • @leetheshredder Sir! Yes Sir!

  • @leetheshredder That is tied BEHIND the nut. It eliminates string vibrations between tuner and nut.

  • @leetheshredder i feel the same about hairbands muting the strings...but the people using them seem to get offended really easy

  • @RicardoDiazHimself Yeah, I've thought about this for a while too. It doesn't offend me in the least. That's probably because I don't think my technique is great. The band helps me in some situations and even if it can be seen as cheating, it's OK I think. at least to me. Just because I am aware of my technical disabilities. As long as it helps I think it's all good. :-)

  • @Wallimann i've seen greg howe using a hairband, and greg howe is obviously one of the greatest guitar players ever! i dont like hairbands because if you have a problem with your technique it keeps you from improving it, and also i've seen a lot of new young guitar players that people admire, and all of them use the hairbands, and that kind of bothers me :p but anyway! its cool!

    good day bro!

  • @RicardoDiazHimself Yeah, I can understand that buddy. Thanks for sharing your opinion! I really appreciate it!

    Peace out! ;-)

  • @RicardoDiazHimself yeah exactly, I can understand purely for recording purposes to get the recording as perfect for an album as possible, but for video's and live shows it's a little disappointing

  • ha ha ha this sounds just like endless sporadic.... good job man

  • @ifhyymf Thanks man :-)

  • Great riffs, man.

Where'd you get the drums from?

  • @StingDaFling Drums are written with Addictive Drums.

  • what is guitar rig 4, how do u get it

  • @MrZexion15 It's a software that acts as an amp and pedals.

You can buy it online. :-)

  • Reminds me of Born of Osiris with the keyboard backing it.

  • @HeresAnOffering Not familiar with that band. Is it a band?

  • @Wallimann They are like a technical metal band.

  • @HeresAnOffering Cool! I'll check them out!

  • Love it.....GJ

  • @mwbm13 Thank you!

  • great riffs

    but bad tone

  • @Satch6strings Thanks man! :-)

  • @Wallimann good shit

  • @ThatDangGinger1995 For this I used Guitar Rig 4 only.

I don't use amps as I never play on stage really. I recently bought an Eleven Rack, I love it!

  • @ThatDangGinger1995 Glad you like it!

This is a Parker Nitefly. Older model...

  • fake

  • @zzsk1ttl3szz What do you mean?

  • wow man you must like dream theater. sounds like somthing john pettrucci wouldhave written.

  • Thanks so much!

    Yes, I love DT! :-)

  • i think jp is would be very proud. could you make a tab of this for me? i would love to learn something so epic.

  • No tab, but if you stop by one of my Q&As on Jamplay, I will show you! :-)

  • Pure, just perfect played... 5/5

  • You know it's prog when the #11 starts appearing - nice work :)

  • sick stuff !
