  • So sad that he was shot down in a mugging in Indianapolis less than a year after he recorded this. His murderer was never found. If he had only had the .44 he mentions in the song with him in that alley.

  • what a pity the mp3 rendition...I truly love this tune...

  • Just found Scrapper and man I love this bluesman!

  • I was curious because of the SRV cover... thnx mate that i found the (i think) original

  • Best version of this song

  • This is absolutely fantastic... Thanks for posting. :)

  • holy crap this scrapper fellow is the man!

  • I recall he was part Cherokee, looks quite young in this photo, he has not aged since his 30,s snaps, a wonderfull artist.

  • @gitfiddlejim Jimi Hendrix was also part Cherokee interestingly.

  • I found this old bluesville lp with scrapper right on my 15year old birthday in an old used store. This was one of the greatest movements in my life.I played it over and over. The best birthday party i ever had

  • that was a great find and a great birthday :)

  • @steinsteel A Blues guitar player friend of mine Mike Bloomfield used to say Scrapper Blackwell didn't get enough of the respect and attention he truly deserved, Leroy Carr as well both great and original blues men.

Scrappers playing sounds deceptively easy, he played single string solo on the fret board amazing! previous to the 40's and 50's. His work with Leroy Carr is a wonderful combination of bass line piano and treble strings the guitar. Your lucky to have discovered him at a young age.

  • Pure emotion I just love it thank you.

  • Thx 4 the post

  • all i can a is WOW. what original picking! i've been listening to oldschool blues for a long time and there's just something a little different going on here. fantastic.

  • "Straight up great blues" -- best praise possible. I used to have this '61 recording -- gone now. Great to see that people still appreciate the Scrapper! Love YouTube.

  • thanks~Scrapper was a very special bluesman.

  • this was recorded at scrappers house. He didn't even have his own guitar and one had to be provided for himHe had quit playing in 1935 not long after his partner Leroy Carr died.

  • This was recorded in 61? He must have recorded it with a bean can and a piece of string!! Just some straight up great blues!

I've just been out for a couple beers and this just fits man lol

  • same here! fantastic picking
