@grimjawh - Iblis was not an angel, he was a Jinn. But, he was one of the most respected Jinn that Allah had created, and he used to serve Allah with zeal and enthusiasm to the point where his status was that close to Angels. That shows how much he loved Allah and how much Allah loved him to begin with. Later on, his arrogance (since Jinn are prone to this due to their fiery temper) caused him to rebel; he became jealous that since he used to be favored, someone else (Adam) would be better.

Other verses, however, mention al-Jinn so we are made aware that he was first and foremost a Jinn with an elevated status. Now, he is our avowed enemy, and he is trying to disprove the theory that human beings are better with our free-will. He is trying to deceive us just as he did our father, Adam, and mother, Hawwa. Don't let him mislead you

@SlaveOfAllah24 my brother, i dont think we can "serve" ALLAH, but yes! indeed! our purpose in life is to "obey" ALLAH. serve is not the right word for it... the hindus would say they serve God by giving the statues gifts, washing the statues and stuff... but as for us... you see! we cannot do any favor to ALLAH. whatever we do, we do it for ourselves, maybe for the "sake" of ALLAH.. These verses might make it clearer:

(51:56): "I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve Me."

(39:14) Say: "It is Allah I serve, with my sincere (and exclusive) devotion:

(71:2-3) He (Noah) said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you (2) (Bidding you): Serve Allah and keep your duty unto Him and obey me, (3)

(53:62) Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. (62)
