hey thanks for doing these reviews! i was thinking about getting a Nikon but did not know which one after using my aunts D90 i thought it was a great camera and this review made me make up my mind
Hi, I bought Nikon D90 with 18-105mm VR Lens. Is it safe for the camera and lens if I use the zoom ring manually even I set the camera to AF and the lens to A. Thanks
ok i bought this camera with the 18-105 lost week, when im looking at the front of the bost, on the bottom left section were the lense screws in, there is a button that seems to do something with theshutter or something what is that
@eLLriDe420 that's the depth of field preview button, it will show you your depth of field by closing the aperture to whatever you have it set at that moment.
I shot the video on my page (in the ARRahman_Anup playlist) titled "...Journey Home" with both the D90 and Canon 5D. Guess which footage is with which camera.
Despite the auto focus is the slowest I cant resist on getting this camera hopefully. D300s and D700 are too expensive high end dSLR cameras. I hope the auto focus wouldn't destroy the camera worth.
if you didnt have any Nikon, say. Which model will you choose Canon 550d or D90, the lens i will try to get will be the Tamron 18-270mm. Im having hard, really HARD time due to the many ppl says this and say that about both brands... which will u choose? thanks!

@getnelson852 from my experience Nikon has sharp & crispy images while Canon has smooth images. If you are comparing the features between these two cameras 550d has bigger MP while D90 has faster FPS.

@getnelson852 It's all a matter of preference. Try them both out and decide for yourself. If you're that torn between the two, nothing I can really say is going to help you.
Hi There!!! My name is Harshal and I am from India.. first of all I would like to thank you for posting such an informative video..really appreciate..I would also like to inform you that I purchased a Nikon D90 on 6th July 2010....very happy that i finally got it...however, the sad part is that since last 3-4 days I have been getting images that have color issues. for eg. if i click 20 pictures, a couople of pictures will have split colors..like the pictue will be spilt in half with a line..
Saw both your reviews. You're amazing! This was so helpful to me. I've read a lot about which to choose, like the Canon d550, Nikon d5000 or the Nikon D90, but after this review, i think i might go for the Nikon D90. Thanks again for the lovely review. Probably the best review on youtube right now, atleast of what I've could find. Keep up the good work, you're amazing to explain and show. Cheers! :)
hi, great review, you make me more informed than some of the review i watched. my d90 will arrive tomorrow...i ordered it online....can't wait have it and go through again with your video....Thank you once again!
i like your review.i would like to know more about how to use the setting pretty much about photography.I have a D90 but i don't really know how to start shooting good pics.If you can help me i will appreciate.i like they way your explain.nice and clear voice !! :)
I'm a newbie taking pics with a Dslr(D90).I would like to know about shooting menu D-lighting,Bkt,multiple exposure,Metering and exposure AE-L,filters, etc. Everything that complements good pictures. Also i got a flash SB-600 and i want to know how the light and diffuser works to take good shoots! I like photography a lot.I have read and watched dvds and i think you are the best explaining and tutor.I will love see any review or tutorial to learn and understand photography and D90.Thank you:0)
ok, that helps. I can do videos on a lot of this; I was planning to do one on lighting with speedlights once I got my SB-900. Some of these things I can just tell you though. Bkt is bracketing, which takes a series of photos with slight variations in exposure. AE-L is auto exposure lock, which locks your camera's reading of the light, and there are many filters that do many different things, all lenses should have a UV filter on them to protect the lens from damage.
I saw some of them and i think they are great!! i like the way your explain using your drawing pics.English is my second language and your pics help me alot to understand better.Thank you for you time and kindness.I can't wait to see more videos.Greetings :)
nice review man. very precise, very professional. i've viewed part 1, and its cool. i agree with your "start out small" advice. its basically the proper way to enter photography. i stated out in a d40, and is i a go advanced, although i will be switching to canon (50d at that), i'd strongly recommend d40 or its X version. its a great entry level dslr man.
my cousin has a 50d, and my classmate has a d90. they were the cheapest in my budget range. i compared the two, and felt that the 50d has those features that i prefer. balanced s.speed, not too fast, nor too slow. image res. not too high, but still can satisfy me... and most of all, 50d fits my hand so well...
i have high respect for nikon. i've heard that their glasses were top notch. i don't discriminate a brand for a brand. its just that my instincts prefer the 50d, given the above reasons.
Whatever floats your boat dude. The photographer who sparked my love of photography shoots with a 50D. I'm glad you found the one that works best for you!
yup, thanks dude... glad u understand... good luck with your shooter... enjoy it fully... the d90 is a superb shooter... so is the 50d. it all boils down to personal preferences in the first place.. nice vids man!!
Autofocus speed is more dependent on the lens than the camera, but yes. Any lens will be slower in live view than standard viewfinder focusing...much slower.
Hahaha, my D40x was a case of manslaughter! I was tackled by a football player during a sidelines shoot one night last september. It was a good thing for me, because the D40x is awful in low light, whereas the D90 is great. If you don't do a lot of low light stuff, you may not necessarily need to jump to the D90. The D40 is a perfect camera for the casual shooter, but I don't know what kind of stuff you do... Care to clue me in? Let me know and I'll tell you what you should do.
That's a tragic shame! Your poor D40x! I'm certainly no professional, but I'm a pretty serious amateur. It seems like every event I attend with my friends or family I become the unofficial photographer. It's not uncommon for me to take over 1000 shots on a weekend camping trip. Then, of course, everyone wants copies of the pictures! I don't think I've seen a picture of myself in over a year! :P I'm looking to "step-up my game" and I love to use available light, so often that means low light.
...Also, I've looked at as many examples as I can find of D90 HD movies, and I love the way they look, despite the obvious limitations. I still love my D40, but I feel I have outgrown it quite a bit.
Due to its exceptional perfomance at high ISOs, the D90 is, in my opinion, the poor man's pro camera. It shares many of its features with the D300, which is a more pro-level camera. The D90 doesn't shoot as fast as the D300, so if you're a big sports shooter, you may find that annoying. I personally never mind the FPS speed with this camera though.
Did you have any particular shooting situations in mind?
These things are all things you would need to think of when buying a lens, not a camera. But certainly, this camera is good for those things. There is a setting in the camera that optimizes the colors of your photos for both landscape and portrait situations, I believe I mentioned it briefly in the review.
If you can afford it, the D90. it's only an extra 200 dollars, and you get ergonomic control FAR superior to the D5000, as well as the ability to use non-af-s leses. you'll get a better screen and faster frame rate too. other than that they're very similar. However I would advise you to think carefully before you buy a new camera. Is there a certain defining characteristic that you must have in the new one, or are you just after a new toy? If not, invest in some good glass instead.
The quality of the pictures doesn't change depending on whether you use the finder or LV. The only real difference is that you are locked onto one focus point, but the one point can be moved anywhere on the screen. I will warn you, however, that AF is really REALLY slow in live view, especially if you have slow-focusing lenses. My 70-200 and 24-70 are both pretty good, but my dinky little 18-55 was awful.
would have liked to possibly seen WB adjusted in liveView......i heard this camera can do that not sure, none the less ur review is better then that of many professionals who do simply more of an overview
You're absolutely right, you can do WB through live view. I filmed a video all about WB and I think I demonstrated that in there. I haven't got it uploaded yet because my program's not running so great.
I've played with it in the shop, but that's about it. Be aware that it is an FX lens, so you'll get the crop factor if you use it on a D90 or other DX body.
Honestly, the only other one I use is the 18-55mm kit lens from my old D40X. I have the 55-200mm vr, but I've only used it once since I got the 70-200. I'm hoping to get the 24-70mm f/2.8g soon to replace the 18-55 for a wedding I'm doing over the summer.
I'll do a review of the 55-200 for sure. I'll try to film it tomorrow, but who knows how long it will be before I upload it, because my editing program is all messed up.
The HD Video on the D90 seems to occationally show these opaque dark bands. Have you noticed that and are there any other issues with the D90? I am considering getting one, but am not sure if I should get a Cannon instead.
It does the black bands at the top & bottom when you shoot in HD to make it widescreen format if that's what you mean. One thing to keep in mind, thte D90 isn't a camcorder, it's a camera that also records video. This shouldn't weigh too heavily on your decision. I'm not exactly unbiased, but I find Nikon to be a little more intuitive than Canon. I'd say go for the D90, but make sure you research Canon as well to make sure you're happy.
Its reassuring to receive your feedback on this amazing camera! Although, by the 'dark bands', I was referring to these moving opaque bands that appear on the video when shooting at the highest resolution, in low light conditions.
What about manual vs auto focousing.
Can you do manual focousing on this camara?
