my grandfather was a navy engineer on the pacific front, he would repair those amphibian personel boats when they were sunk or broke down. They were worth more than the personel they carried, so when salvaging a sunk one, they were ordered to weld through crew members if necessary. Of corse, he didnt do that he saved 7 people from drowning in the boats, and salvaged over 30 completely sunken boats. Said that when the boats would resurface, the Japanese thougth it was a ghost at first.

My Father fought on Okinawa and was severly wounded there on May 16, 1945. He was in the army, 96th Division, 382nd Infantry and was a B.A.R. (automatic rifleman). He suffered greatly his whole life due to this injury. These me who fought on Okinawa were brave men. This was an absolutely nighmarish battle.

My Dad fought on Okinawa with the 6th Marine division. He barely survived the battle - in one instance a grenade thrown into his foxhole by a Japanese soldier failed to explode. Only 10% of his platoon made it through without getting killed or wounded. But he carried the scars of the war for the rest of his life.

my grandfather was a navy engineer on the pacific front, he would repair those amphibian personel boats when they were sunk or broke down. They were worth more than the personel they carried, so when salvaging a sunk one, they were ordered to weld through crew members if necessary. Of corse, he didnt do that he saved 7 people from drowning in the boats, and salvaged over 30 completely sunken boats. Said that when the boats would resurface, the Japanese thougth it was a ghost at first.

sure japanese soldiers where people to but look at the book Flags of our Fathers and read the whole thing. It got me to changed my mind alittle bit on the japanese soldiers and how i thought " they where like all soldiers in war they killed and where scarred by it".

My Father fought on Okinawa and was severly wounded there on May 16, 1945. He was in the army, 96th Division, 382nd Infantry and was a B.A.R. (automatic rifleman). He suffered greatly his whole life due to this injury. These me who fought on Okinawa were brave men. This was an absolutely nighmarish battle.

The Okinawans have made movies about Okinawa , which aren't exactly sympathetic to the Imperial Japanese cause. The Battle Of Okinawa and its cost in lives was one of the determining factors for the atmomic bombs.

Japan was beaten before the bombs were dropped racer. Bombs eventhough more dramatic saved lives on both sides and saved many POWS from being executed. Our bombing raids of Tokyo alone almost killed as many people as the atomic bombs did.

And USA only became active in the war after Pearl Harbor, which was half way through the war. USA didn't do as much as other countries such as the Soviet Union, but before they joined, it looked as though the Nazis would win.

To the claimers of propoganda, how is it propoganda to show actual footage of a battle, years after the battle was decided. That's history, not propoganda. To the anti Americans, and uneducated Americans alike, the Battle for Okinawa was the single largest US-only deployment of forces in WW2. And has been often omitted from history, disregarded, or overshadowed by the photo of the Iwo-Jima flag. Only the surviving Okinawan civilians can give you a true story of this. Don't hate with out facts.
